Zunnie was not ready to head back to meet Nyo and Eyan. She knew the two would still be playing and chatting seeing that Nyo had not seen Eyan recently. To pass the time she decided to tour the company on her own. On her way down, the elevator stopped and a handsome man stepped in. She had seen him before on the cover of a TechU magazine issue but had no idea who he was.
However, she noticed how well dressed and handsome he looked. He was the second attractive man she had laid eyes on after Alex. He wore a well-tailored grey suit with a purple tie and a pair of brown men's loafers. There was a warm and friendly expression in his brown eyes that had been looking back at her. Zunnie felt like his eyes were pulling her in. When she heard the elevator door shut, she nervously cleared her throat and look away briefly to compose herself.
She politely smiled and nodded when she noticed she had not greeted him but had been staring at him. He smiled back at her and said,
"Miss Bai it's nice to finally meet you."
"I'm sorry, I don't think I know you. Have we met before? " Zunnie replied a confused expression in her eyes.
"Apologies, I'm Carson Maule, we went to the same high school. It's been a very long time, I did not think you would remember me." He said and extended his hand to shake hers.
"Oh, so you're Carson Maule..." Zunnie said still baffled that she had no remembrance of him.
"Yes, I am; do you remember me?" He asked her curiously.
"I'm sorry I don't. I've heard your name a few times."
"Ah, you really don't remember breaking my heart, that hurts." Carson smiled and touched the area where his heart is.
"Please don't hold what I did when I was younger against me. I apologize for causing you pain."
"I should thank you. What you said back then made me realize I had only been infatuated with your uniqueness. It changed my view on love and what it means to be in love with someone."
"Really, you're uhm welcome..." was all Zunnie said before the elevator dinged and come to a stop.
When the elevator stopped on the first floor, Zunnie's eyes grew wide. Seeing Alex speaking to the person she had gone to look for, an angry fire ignited within Zunnie. She clenched her jaw then walked over to where they stood.
Zunnie's roller coaster of emotions had been much better, after seeing Nyo, but the moment she spotted Natalia standing beside Alex, she lost her levelheadedness. She marched to where they stood and immediately attacked Natalia with a vicious look.
She had forgotten about the person who had been in the elevator. But he followed behind her since he was familiar with the group she was heading towards.
"Miss Omalu, you're just the person I wanted to see." She stopped next to Alex and lightly brush his arm with hers. She did not want to pass the opportunity to let Natalia know she was aware of her plan.
"Oh, Mrs. Bai you're here as well, how can I help you?" Natalia replied to her, ignoring the tension in the air.
Before Zunnie could reply she heard Malon Nang's familiar voice behind her as he walked towards them.
"Talia everyone must be waiting on us, we should head up now."
"I'm sure they can wait a few more minutes. Just tell them I stopped you." Zunnie hurriedly said, jealousy brewing within her bosom.
"If Mrs. Bai says so. I'll be okay then." Talia flashed a conniving smile at Zunnie which she did not miss.
Zunnie ignored the curious eyes around them and led Natalia to an empty sitting area in the lobby.
"I'll get straight to the point. I know you confessed to Alex and he rejected you because he does not see you in that way. I also know that you are taunting our relationship with the things you are doing. Alex is not going anywhere, and neither am I so please stop causing trouble for me. Trying to break off Alex and me, is quite absurd since we're married and we both love each other. Also, you're not his type. He loves me very much and I love him too. I won't be breaking it off and neither will he. What you're doing is shameless and it needs to stop."
"Ahh, I have no idea what you're inferring. Yes, Alex did reject me, but who knows what can happen if I don't keep my heart open. I've loved Alex for a long time and I've known him longer than you. Why should I stop liking him because you feel threatened or because you asked me to? I don't mean to be rude Mrs. Bai but you're overstepping the boundaries. I can like whomever I want."
