Chapter 7

The Person in My Mind

When Pang Jing Dong turned around, he met Wang Wei Tong once again, who let out a sigh, “Are you lurking around to eavesdrop on the latest information? Scared of losing your job?”

“Yeah.” Pang Jing Dong replied with a hollow laugh.

“If you had known it would come down to this, you would have behaved better in the first place.”

“I wished I would know what my first place should be; then I won’t have to experience my past.” Pang Jing Dong muttered under his breath.

It was too soft for Wang Wei Tong, who continued introducing, “The new general manager Mrs. Shen, who not only is a female but is also younger than you; she is now working as a general manager; young and promising. Look at yourself, I am not trying to mock you, but you should truly think about it and start planning for your future.”

Pang Jing Dong gave him a smile and said, “Even though you are always criticizing me, but I don’t blame you because I do know that you are concerned for my well-being.”

Upon listening to his words, Wang Wei Tong looked stunned, and replied, “I am quite impressed that those words came out from your mouth. I would rather you to stop giving me any chance in the future to criticize you… Let’s hope if you still have a future!” After pausing for a moment, he continued, “When you meet Mrs. Shen later, please reflect honestly on your behavior, and promise her you will change. She is new to the company so she should still be unfamiliar with the condition of our workplace. Furthermore, you are only a regular employee, so it is unlikely that she will pick on you.”

If it were someone else, the person would have also added, “I did try my best to talk good about you” or something similar, to earn a favor from Pang Jing Dong. Wang Wei Tong did not mention it, even if he did try his best to help Pang Jing Dong. Anyone could have said something good, or even more likely to talk bad about him. On the other hand, people like Wang Wei Tong who had never tried to earn anything from helping people were the most reliable.

“Mrs. Shen was able to become our boss at such an early age; Is it because her family had taught her well since childhood?” said Pang Jing Dong.

“That is true. Her dad is one of the richest men in our country, who’s involved in real estate, finance, and manufacturing. I am told that Mr. Shen was incredibly poor in his early years, but he fought hard for the achievements he has today. It is quite miraculous indeed.”

Pang Jing Dong followed Wang Wei Tong towards the general manager’s office. When they arrived at the door, Wang Wei Tong advised him with a serious tone, “Be careful with what you say when you go in.”

“I understand, thank you.”

After watching Wang Wei Tong walking way, Pang Jing Dong stood still for a moment, before reaching out his hand. When he had finally decided to knock on the door, he said to himself, “Is it truly her? Would there be such a coincidence?”

Following the knocks, there was a recognized yet unfamiliar voice from the inside, “Please enter.”

“It truly isn’t someone else with the same name.” When Pang Jing Dong entered the room, he was finally sure that the general manager in front of him, was the same person he remembered deep in his mind, yet he was not sure if he considered himself fortunate, or the opposite.

In the widely spaced and brightly illuminated office, where a large office desk was placed, an attractive lady was sitting behind it. She had a moderate height and physique, an oval face with little foundation applied; she was wearing a well-tailored, dark blue professional attire, which flawlessly displayed her outstanding figure, especially the curves of her breasts.

Shen Jia Yao possessed a pair of deep looking eyes, which were focused on a few documents on the desk as she was writing on them. When she heard Pang Jing Dong entering the room, she raised her eyes and frowned her eye brows elegantly before cracking a smile, “Happy, it’s truly you!”

“Happy” was Pang Jing Dong’s nickname, known by a few people, but those who knew it were confused and tried to figure why his nickname was not “Dong Dong”. Only Pang Jing Dong knew that the name carried his parents’ hope. They had spent their whole lives working hard but did not have many chances to experience happiness; thus, they entrusted their hope on him, to live a happy life.

TL note: For Chinese people, their nicknames are often given by repeating the last word of their names. Therefore, the usual nickname for Pang Jing Dong would be “Dong Dong”; the nickname of Zhou Tong would be “Tong Tong”.

“Yao Yao, it truly is you.” said Pang Jing Dong emotionally, with a hint of helplessness.

“When I just arrived and looked through the employee list, I prayed that there wouldn’t be a second Pang Jing Dong in the world.”

“When I found out the new general manager’s name is Shen Jia Yao, I prayed that there wouldn’t be a second Shen Jia Yao in the world……”

“There won’t be a second Shen Jia Yao; and likewise, there won’t be a second Pang Jing Dong.” Shen Jia Yao interrupted Pang Jing Dong, then in a cold voice she said, “I would never think that you are so scared to see me.”

“I wasn’t scared. I was just unsure how I should approach you……”

As the two were talking, Pang Jing Dong was still standing while Shen Jia Yao sat still in her seat. When she finally realized she should not have treated her childhood buddy like that, she pointed towards the seat opposite her and said to Pang Jing Dong, “Please be seated!”

Since they met each other, Shen Jia Yao had only shown a few gestures, but every single one of them had an elegant feel to it.

Feeling a sense of nobility from her, Pang Jing Dong realized that, the girl before me now is no longer the same tomboy who had followed me around wherever I went ten years ago.

The two were facing each other in silence for quite a while, before Shen Jia Yao took her time saying, “I assumed you did not dare to see me, because of you……. No! I should say because of your parents; my godparents had abandoned me.”

“That was not their real intention, I believe they loved you like how they loved me, but in that situation, they were forced to do so.”

“Happy, I grew up in your family since an early age.” Shen Jia Yao smiled while continuing, “Your parents were my godparents, and I do know that they loved me. Even though they abandoned me before leaving the country when I was 15 years old, it will never influence my love towards them.”

After a brief pause, Pang Jing Dong said, “You must remember that our family was having a tough time. My parents decided to try our luck in other countries and wanted to take you with us, but we weren’t allowed to do so due to the situation, so we decided to settle down first, and when the right time comes, we will bring you there too.”

“But I have waited for 15 years. It never happened, and I was unable to contact them.”

“They were involved in a fatal crash……”

“I know. My dad was told by one of his friends a few years ago. Since then, my dad, who is your godfather has been looking for you, but there was no news at all.”

Pang Jing Dong gave her a forced smile, without saying anything.

Shen Jia Yao asked, “Where have you been all this time? What have you been doing?”

“I……”

Without waiting for Pang Jing Dong’s answer, Shen Jia Yao said, “If you’re not comfortable, you don’t need to tell me.”
