Leo strolled into the arena full of cheers once again. "Panthera! Panthera! Panthera!"
"Today, I have an extraordinary fight. Two of my champions will face each other. Panthera vs. Ursus the White!"
Leo and Preaza looked across the Colosseum to see the opposite metal door open. Standing five meters tall was a white bear exiting the door. Its yellowish-white fur covered its body like sharp needles. Each of its teeth was the size of a dagger and his intense dark brown eyes staring the pair of them down. Wearing multiple scars and wounds the bear honestly looked formidable.
"ROOOOAARRRRR!" The bear let out a terrifying howl that silenced the crowd.
Then everyone started chanting "Ursus! Ursus! Ursus!"
"Sir, warning that beast is a peak Core Builder."
"My Champions get ready... FIGHT TO THE DEATH!" The crowd of beastmen went wild. The bear snorted and charged toward the human and lion pair.
Seeing the massive beast rush at him, Leo felt a chill in the air.
"Sir, I sense law of ice fluctuations."
The air became heavier and thicker. Leo could see his breath.
Preaza decided to vanguard and confront the bear first. Her claw strike was swatted to the side effortlessly.
The ground underneath the bear started to ice over. Leo then realized whatever the bear touches turns slowly into ice. He quickly looked over to frost on Preaza's front right leg to confirm his theory.
"Preaza, be careful. If you touch him, you will be frozen." Leo used Rock stomp to prepare a few rocks. "I'll use long range to gauge his ability."
Leo fired a few Rock Shots, but the shattering stones barely disrupted the bear. Using his speed, he was able to stay far enough from the bear until he realized 70% of the arena was now covered in ice.
Preaza and Leo were standing in the only two large spots not covered.
"Sir, I've analyzed the beast, and its fur is thinnest on its face. The best way to take down the monster is through its mouth or eyes."
The ice bear ran at Leo. Using Earth Control, he elevated the ground and tripped the charging beast.
Then Leo leaped out the way of the collapsing beast. He landed on the ice and slipped. Sliding, he slammed into the Colosseum wall.
"Urghh." Leo cringed in pain.
The white bear picked himself up and swatted away Preaza when she tried a sneak attack from behind. Lucky for her, the leather armor took the hit.
"Roooaar!" The bear slammed its paws into the ground instantaneously freezing it and causing ice spikes to erupt in line towards Preaza. The ice spikes pierced the lion's hind leg, torso, and front paw.
"Sir, the lion is in danger. The bear is using an ice beast art."
Leo looked worried. Channeling yang mana into the mace, he smashed it into the ice beneath him. Planting his feet onto the ground, Lee combined Earth Control and Rock Stomp. The end effect was two earth spikes piercing the bear's paws.
"How do you like it?" Leo activated the combo again to raise a pillar up between them. Leo ran and jumped onto the pillar. He leaped from the pillar and used "Descending Moon" by channeling yin mana into the mace.
The weapon dropped into the white bear's snout causing the bear to slam into the ground.
Looking at the mace, he discerned the head was frozen solid. The bear's bleeding snout froze the wound shut. Then the bear ripped its paws out of the spikes and swatted at Leo.
Leo grabbed his mace with two hands to receive the blow. When the head of the mace made contact with the bear's paw, it shattered. Leo was thrown across the stadium and landed on his back. He slid across the ice until he got to a patch of dirt.
Blood started to trickle down Leo's head. He was lucky he was wearing a helm and body armor. That Core Builder beast would have killed him. Looking at the move he used to pin down the bear he decided to call it Earth Spike for short.
All of these life and death battles were starting to show some merit. Leo was learning the laws of earth at a rocketing pace.
The bear slammed its frozen bloody paws into the ground causing ice spikes to head towards Leo. Snapping him out of his thought process, Leo ruptured his spike to stop the wave coming at him. The Earth Spike ends a few, but then it was destroyed. This attack slowed the ice wave down long enough for Leo to get out of the way.
Noticing the mana in his metal orb was about empty. Leo knew he could only use Earth Control a few more times.
The Collector looked on very impressed. A human at Tempered Body was fighting a Core Building beast toe to toe. He realized that the boy cultivated a technique that tempered his entire body and just not the exterior like beastmen.
All of this battling had the crowd on their feet the entire time, even though the weather was starting to get cold due to Ursus. The beastmen cheered for him all the same. Since Panther Knight was giving him a run for his money, a few beastmen were chanting his name also.
The giant beast launched another wave of ice spikes Leo's way, but this time Leo tried to evade them. Moving across the ice and holding only a metal cylinder, Leo was slipping everywhere.
At this moment he looked out, and everything was almost entirely frozen. "Rock Shot." Leo fired a rock over to Preaza to free her from the spikes. He was finally close enough to shoot one.
The spike fragmented and the lion collapsed to the ground from the wounds she suffered.
Leo looked back and saw the massive white bear almost upon him. "Double Rock Shot!" Lifting two stones, Leo tried to use the same tactic he did with the snake.
The bear quickly swatted both rocks away. The bear flung its head forward to bite the human in half.
Preaza jumped in the way and the jaw locked onto her torso.
"Preaza!"
She barely whispered out a murmur. [Stay alive son.]
Quickly thinking, Leo launched an Earth Spike at a weak spot Sprite didn't mention. A massive rock spike pierced the bear's bottom tearing into him.
The severe pain the bear was experiencing made him unlock his jaw release the lion. Seeing his opening, Leo launched another Earth Spike. This second spike stabbed into the bear's open mouth.
With the bear bounded by spikes, Leo jumped up and threw his metal shaft at the bear. Using the law of metal, he pushed the pole forward.
The shaft pierced the bear's cornea and plunged deeper until it lodged itself in the beast's brain. Ursus died instantly.
The final moments even shocked the Collector. "We have a winner. Panthera Knight wins again!"
"Panthera! Panthera! Panthera!" The crowd cheered. This knight was worthy of all the beastmen here respect. He took down a beast two levels higher than his own. Even though beast fight purely on instinct, it was still an impressive feat.
Leo walked over to the bear and reached his arm through his eye socket. Feeling around, he ripped out the bear's core and raised it into the air. The crowd liked the showmanship.
Leo then walked over to Preaza and picked her up onto his back to drag her inside. The guard already opened the door for Leo to go back to his cell.
Walking by the beastman, he arm-saluted Leo and said, "brave fight human." From the bottom of his heart, he respected this Tempered warrior.
When they reached his cage, Preaza breaths were getting short. "Sprite, what can I do?"
"Sir, there is nothing you or I can do."
Sitting there in his cell, Leo held the lion as she died in his arms.
