BEEP

{All participants have arrived.}

{Instructions will now be distributed.}

{Instructions: SURVIVE.}

{Time: 7 days}

{good luck.}

The message turned off just like that.

"Huh? Is that all they have to tell us? Isn't there going to be some point system which works towards a leaderboard? Is there even a point to killing demons here?" Ben continuously asked.

"I believe that Haven is trying to teach us that survival is to be prioritised over self interest and kill-counts." Tyrone shrugged his shoulders.

'Interesting... the Trial in my novel had a score system and all of that crap. But where is that now? Why is this trial so damn general?'

Simon looked around the surrounding area as he silently browsed through different explanations in his mind.

'What if this is the work of a devil? Possibly Winston... but I have my bets on it being an adjustment made by Haven because of kill-stealing issues from previous trials. Maybe the revisions affected Haven's logic.'

"What do you think, Simz?" Michelle asked as she adjusted her clothing, revealing a glimpse of cleavage.

'Hot, but I'm not falling for it.'

"Survival is a prime directive that Haven has taken into account for this trial. I believe that this is because Haven wants alive visionaries, not dead ones." Simon commented.

"Simple answer, perfectly sums it up though." Sam spoke up.

SWISH

"Did you hear that?!" Tyrone was suddenly put into high alert as a projectile wizzed past him.

"Yep, this is where the danger starts."

Tyrone quickly readied a longsword from his back, twirling it around as he immediately warmed himself up. This was followed by everyone else drawing their weapons in anticipation of what was to come.

"Tick tock tick tock... want some candy?" A high pitched voice echoed.

"Careful... this seems to be a Blood Bat!" Jack shouted as he dodged another incoming projectile.

"They shoot blood bombs which corrode armour and render humans unconscious! This is what a tier 4 can do!" Jack continued.

TWANG

An arrow flew past Jack and instantly caused a screaming noise to echo from a small building to the group's left.

"Hit." Ben announced.

"Hah, you're getting pretty good at archery." Liam commented as he moved towards the group's right flank.

"MY WINGS!"

ZOOM

A hideous bat like monster appeared before the group, dripping with blood from its right wing. The demon looked at Ben with hungry eyes as it prepared to swoop at him.

Simon prepared his dagger and held it like a throwing knife, waiting for the perfect chance to obtain an instant kill. In this wait, he observed the surroundings in case of an ambush. While he knew that this area is just the edge of the city, he also knew that demons generally had better senses than humans.

'I hope we don't get spotted.'

"Everyone! Launch your attacks in unison! Target a different vital part if you can!" Simon shouted as he threw his dagger at the Demon's left eye.

"AAAGH!"

Another set of attacks landed on the demons as Liam threw his spear, Mark charged with his sword, James stabbed with his blade, Sienna projected ice, Michelle suppressed with her aura, Tyrone slashed with his longsword, Ben shot an arrow, Jack punched, and Samantha rushed.

Altogether, the battle ended quickly and messily. The coordination of the group was average, so everything ended up destroyed, at the very least, no one got hit by someone else. Such a thing would be really annoying for Simon to deal with since he didn't know anyone in the group that knew how to apply healing powers.

"Anyone injured?" Tyrone asked around as he sheathed his sword.

"Nup, everyone's fine, unlike this bat!" Liam laughed.

"Well that was really anticlimactic, I thought a tier 4 demon would be harder to kill." James commented as he inspected the meat pile in front of him.

"Hahah... well, we will see some tier 6 demons at this rate! If there are tier 4 demons in the edges of the city, one can only expect for a much harder adversary deeper in." Simon worriedly laughed.

"If we see a tier 6 demon, we'll hide." Mark spoke up as searched the meat pile.

"Uhhh... but we just got detected by a tier 4... what makes you think we can hide from a tier 6?" Liam countered.

"Well, do you think we have any better options? The outer ring of the city has basically the least amount of shelter and cover available, tier 6 demons may be deadly, but so is getting eaten in your sleep." Simon coldly remarked as he started walking towards the centre of the city.

"Near death experiences can forge better visionaries. Kills may not be a goal but they do have perks." Simon said as he pulled a marble like object from his pocket.

"Demon core?!"

"Yep, it flew out from the once flying bat you just killed."

"Anyhow, I advise absolute caution, if worst comes to worst, we will temporarily split up and meet back here."

"And remember, doesn't mean since you killed a 4th tier that a 5th tier is in your reach."
