Chapter 10 – Dangerous fellow (1)

“It means that they’re ranked 500th,” said Rishubalt.

“Ranked 500th?” Sung Joon questioned.

Rishubalt nodded his head.

“The knights in the Knight Brigade each have a rank. The knight you just fought was the weakest amongst the knights.”

“It looks like the Knight Brigade is filled with monsters.”

“I won’t deny that.” Rishubalt nodded.

“It looks like we spent quite a lot of time in here so let’s get going,” Sung Joon said.

It had been quite a while since he had first met Rishubalt, conversed with him and attacked the Awakening Dungeon.

Breaking the records was a lost cause now.

He left the dungeon and went to the Dungeon Bureau’s Appraisal Center in order to sell his magic stones.

He received $300,000.

‘I should rest for a few days,’ thought Sung Joon.

His bank balance had swelled to over $1 million due to his recent dungeon run. Other Hunters couldn’t attack dungeons without rest like Sung Joon, so it was impossible for them to replicate his success and make that much money in such a short time.

However, he had fought an extremely tough Boss in the Awakening Dungeon, so his mind was really strained.

It was time for him to rest.

‘I also have plenty of money,’ thought Sung Joon.

The Korean Central Hospital hadn’t asked for any additional payments yet. Therefore, Sung Joon thought he’d rest for a few days.

In fact, he had pretty much soloed the Awakening Dungeon, which was equivalent to a B-rank dungeon. Compared to other Hunters, who rested for at least ten days, his resting time was actually quite short.

“Let’s go home.”

“My lord’s residence… I’m looking forward to it,” said Rishubalt.

“Don’t expect too much,” Sung Joon retorted.

Sung Joon took a taxi and went home. Rishubalt must’ve been right when he said that no one else could see him since he was literally following him around and no one had noticed him.

Eventually, Sung Joon arrived at the Villa where his one-room apartment was located.

Rishubalt nodded and said, “As I expected of you, my lord. I thought you’d own and live in at least a building of this size.”

Sung Joon really wanted to tell him to stop… but he couldn’t.

The top 30 Korean high-rank guild, the Great Demon, was busy in their office like usual.

The Great Demon’s Executive Branch was notorious for its cruelty and brutality. The head of the Executive Branch, Han Yoo Jin, walked in her high heels to the Guild Leader’s Office. Han Yoo Jin was not only an A-rank Hunter, but had also killed countless people who had caused problems for her guild. This was likely the reason that her normally restrained killing intent was leaking out.

Knock. Knock.

“Come in,” a chilly voice said.

Yoo Jin opened the office door and went still at the Guild Leader, Jang Seok Ho’s, gaze.

“Did you call me, sir?” Yoo Jin pushed her glasses up; only her eyes smiled. Seok Ho raised a document that was on his desk.

“Read it.”

“Yes, sir,” she replied.

Yoo Jin went up to the desk and took the document. Then she replied in astonishment, “Woah, amazing! He awakened as a C-rank and was promoted to B-rank in only a few months? He’s also broken the solo play records twice? Who is this?”

“I’m sure you’ve heard of him. He’s known for the ‘self-defense’ incident or for his ‘Unlimited Power’,” replied Seok Ho.

“Ah! I have heard of him!” Yoo Jin beamed as she returned the document.

Seok Ho smirked. His creepy smirk was enough to cause goosebumps.

“For now, I’ve sent the Chief Recruiter… but based on how he refused the invitations from the Phoenix guild and the Hound guild, we can’t expect any good results,” Seok Ho said.

“Aren’t you just sending Chief Kang on a fool’s errand? If you had just told me, I would’ve sent some of my men,” Yoo Jin said.

“We can’t have that, now can we? We have to use our words.”

Yoo Jin smiled sensuously. “What should we do if we don’t get through to him?”

“Well, if the carrot doesn’t work, we’ll just have to use the stick, now won’t we?”

“I’ll tell Yoo Sang Kyu to be ready,” said Yoo Jin.

“Did you say you had an A-rank Hunter with a stealth ability? That should be enough,” Seok Ho said as he smiled icily and nodded.

While Seok Ho and Yoo Jin planned a nefarious plot, Sung Joon was resting on his bed. Rishubalt closed his eyes and fished through his memories, in order to be of more help to Sung Joon.

“My lord.”

Rishubalt felt a presence and opened his eyes. Sung Joon also rose from his bed.

“I have nothing being delivered today…” He trailed off as someone pressed the doorbell.

Since pressing the doorbell obviously meant they had business with him, he went to the door and said, “Who is it?” he asked.

“Mr. Kang Sung Joon? This is the Great Demon guild’s Chief Recruiter, Kang Byung Jin. Could you please spare me a bit of your time?”

“I cannot. Please leave,” he said. Then as he turned around…

“It would be best for you to hear me out,” Kang Byung Jin spoke.

Sung Joon stopped when he heard the obvious threat. Rishubalt, who had been quietly listening beside him, suddenly looked fiendish.

“How dare you threaten my lord!”

It wouldn’t be understating it to say that the knight wanted to draw his sword immediately, but unfortunately, the ‘present’ Rishubalt couldn’t use his strength.

Sung Joon raised his hand and stopped Rishubalt. After he calmed him down, Sung Joon opened the door. A man, fully dressed in a suit, stood at his doorway.

He saw Sung Joon and smirked.

“See? You were already going to open the door, so why did you have to pointlessly waste time?” Byung Jin said.

He already had quite a foul mood and contrary to the other guild invites he had received, this one was quite bold.

“How did you know where I lived?” Sung Joon asked.

“I believe I already told you where I’m affiliated with, yes?” Byung Jin replied cockily.

“That’s not answering my question,” Sung Joon pursued, narrowing his eyes. The unanswering man felt revolting to Sung Joon.

“Then, shall we take a stroll?” he suggested.

Sung Joon didn’t want to talk to the man in his house and he didn’t want to figure out what he was there for, so he decided to have the conversation in the park near his house.

“What did you come here for?” Sung Joon asked suddenly, right after they entered the park. Because of Byung Jin’s arrogant attitude, Sung Joon was in no mood for nonsense.

“You should know better than me, Mr. Kang Sung Joon,” said Byung Jin.

“I don’t know, so please explain it to me,” Sung Joon said. Unable to repress the unpleasant feeling, he leaked a little of his killing intent.

“Ergh!”

Byung Jin felt as if his heart had been stopped for a moment by Sung Joon’s killing intent. It had felt like an icy wind. Although it was a tiny bit of killing intent, it was too much for Byung Jin to handle.

‘He’s someone who’s killed a lot of people,’ he thought.

As the Chief Recruiter for the Great Demon guild, Byung Jin had met a lot of people. However, not all of them could control their killing intent.

Hunters who could control their killing intent were mostly people who had killed others before.

Byung Jin was momentarily frightened by the fact that Sung Joon could kill him at any time, but since he realized there were a lot of people around him, he calmed his breathing.

“I’ll speak plainly. We’d like you to work together with us,” he said.

“Is this a guild invite?” Sung Joon asked.

“That’s right. Since we’re a high-rank guild, we can offer more benefits than other guilds,” Byung Jin explained.

Sung Joon wasn’t interested. There were a lot of bulletin post messages describing how beneficial it was to join a guild but Sung Joon didn’t like how a guild would take part of his earnings.

“I refuse,” Sung Joon said clearly.

Byung Jin furrowed his eyebrows and warningly said, “It’d be best to reconsider. I believe you already know a lot about our guild, yes?”

Sung Joon already knew the rumors about them from the bulletin board messages on Hunter.com.

Threats.

Torture.

PK.

Kidnapping.

This high-ranking guild mostly performed criminal acts. The incompetent country only watched and tiptoed around the high-ranking guilds because they possessed so many strong Hunters.

The Great Demon guild hid all of the conclusive evidence, making it difficult to catch them.

Also, of the high-ranking guilds, the Great Demon was suspected of the most criminal activity.

“Can I please have your answer now?”

He had likely thought that he had given him enough time, so Byung Jin asked again. With a poised expression, Sung Joon said…
