The purpose of an argument was communication and the reason of communication was to use your own ideas to influence the other party, in essence, to change the other person. However, from the fact that Lin Kang still had the audacity to suggest such a revolting trade to Joann, Xiu Ling knew the man was unchangeable.

Therefore, getting into an argument with the man would be an exercise in futility.

Furthermore, while Xiu Ling had nothing to gain, she had plenty to lose. What if in his anger, Lin Kang yanked Lin Xi out of her life? That would kill her.

In any case, getting into it with Lin Kang was a very bad idea and Xiu Ling was thankful that her son pulled her back from the edge of the cliff at the very last minute.

However, that did not mean that Xiu Ling was willing to go back to her seat and had dinner with the man, pretending like nothing had happened. She might be able to do that in a few days when she had gotten used to the thing but definitely not now when the wound was still fresh.

Abandoning her plan of fighting against her husband, Xiu Ling reverted to her original plan, which was to escape. She could not stand being in the same room with the monster.

Therefore, she needed an excuse but what…

Xiu Ling racked her mind, trying to find an excuse that would sound acceptable to her husband's ears. However, she came up with nothing.

Xiu Ling rocked Lin Xi in her arms naturally as the boy continued to wail. She turned to whisper words of comfort to the boy, trying to soothe him and then it hit her.

She understood it was rather immoral but she was going to use Lin Xi as an excuse.

"No, of course not." Xiu Ling smiled a disingenuous smile. "Lin Xi just soiled his diapers so I need to go and change him."

Lin Kang narrowed his eyes at Xiu Ling like he was gauging whether she was lying to him or not. It was quite clear that the man suspected she was lying to him. It had to be said that his suspicion was not unfounded.

Xiu Ling sweated under his gaze while she tried to keep the smile on her face. She prayed that he would not see through her lie. She rocked Lin Xi almost frantically. This caused the boy to wail even louder.

Incidentally, this fitted with Xiu Ling's lie that the boy's diaper needed changing. It was possibly the ultimate reason why Lin Kang nodded in the end and gave Xiu Ling the permission to go.

Xiu Ling sighed in relief as she turned around from the man. She continued to rock Lin Xi as she carried him upstairs.

Weirdly enough, when she stepped over the threshold of Lin Xi's bedroom, the boy's crying died down almost instantly. His wails turned into sobs and then finally merely sniffles.

Xiu Ling turned to look at her son in confusion and realized Lin Xi was looking back at her with a smile. The smile was as innocent as a child's normally would but for some reason, Xiu Ling read a trace of conspiracy behind it. It was as if the boy knew of her trouble and he cried as a method to aid her.

Xiu Ling checked her son's diaper and naturally it was dry. She then proceeded to lay him down in his crib. Lin Xi wiggled his arms about as he looked up at her.

"Thank you," Xiu Ling whispered and Lin Xi giggled as if he understood what his mother was saying.

Whether it was just a coincidence or Lin Xi did know what he was doing, this affirmed Xiu Ling's decision of not going up against Lin Kang. She would not be able to survive losing Lin Xi.

Xiu Ling sat down beside the boy's crib and her hands caressed her son's chubby face. Lin Xi reached out to grab her fingers. Feeling her son's small fingers curling around hers, Xiu Ling's heart warmed.

'How come something as amazing as you share the lineage of someone as horrendous as him?' Xiu Ling thought to herself.

In any case, Xiu Ling was reminded of the fact that before Joann left that afternoon, her best friend had reached out to her to save Xu Corps. Xiu Ling promised that she would try her best to help her friend.

Xiu Ling sat where she was, trying to come up with a useable solution. Obviously talking to Lin Kang would not work, if it was of any use, Lin Kang would have agreed to help Joann when she went to negotiate with him. Furthermore, at that moment, Xiu Ling could not stand being in the same room as the man much less talk to him.

Therefore, that option was a no-go.

However, Lin Kang's words were equivalent to the law in the Lin household and at the company. There was only one individual in the family whose words could sway Lin Kang and that was who Xiu Ling planned to meet.

Xiu Ling did not like going behind Lin Kang but desperate times call for desperate measures. Furthermore, it was also the man's fault for forcing Xiu Ling into this decision.

Lin Kang sat alone fuming in the dining room. 'Why couldn't she understand where I'm coming from?'

Lin Kang was pissed that his wife acted like he was the most disgusting creature in the world she had ever seen and she could not wait to get away from him.

Lin Kang sat stewing in that rage of being rejected and abandoned. This was not something that happened to him often, normally people could not wait to throw themselves at him.

However, when the rage left him, Lin Kang had to admit this was partly his fault. If only he had a better communication skill, things would not have led to this regrettable stage.
