Lin Kang recovered quickly and realized this was an opportunity set up by his mother for him to get close to his wife. 'Mom, why couldn't you just tell me that in person?' Lin Kang grumbled in his mind, failing to understand he did not actually give his mother the opportunity to do so.

However, seconds later, he started to doubt himself. After all, it was not to his knowledge that Mrs. Lin had finally approved of Xiu Ling. Lin Kang thought they were still at each other's throat.

'Have I envisioned this wrongly? Perhaps mother did have an important brunch to attend to?' Lin Kang thought to himself, 'In any case, I'll be the biggest idiot in the world if I do not make use of this perfect opportunity.'

With that purpose in mind, Lin Kang sidled to his wife and said, "Since mother has said so, let's get moving then."

Xiu Ling reared her head at Lin Kang, and confusion was apparent on her face. 'Wait, you're going along with it? Weren't you just trying hard to squirm out of it earlier?!'

Xiu Ling was understandably confused by the sudden change in her husband's attitude. She was about to ask him about it when Lin Kang took her hand and ushered her into the kitchen. "Lin Kang... Wait..." Xiu Ling said as she was practically dragged away.

Lin Kang wanted to push things along before his wife changed her mind. He placed Xiu Ling before the working table and said, "Please show me the way, Teacher Xiu Ling!"

It was definitely out of character for him to do something like this. After all, the man had not begged another human being for any help in his life. Normally, it would be the other way around, others came to him begging for help.

However, it was as they say, love could change a person and before Xiu Ling, Lin Kang did not feel that out of place humbling himself.

Lin Kang had a hard time telling whether the changes were positive for him or not. He had difficulty gauging whether he appreciated the man he was slowly becoming. However, one thing did help tremendously in easing him into acceptance of the change.

It was how his wife reacted to him. During the initial stage of their marriage, Xiu Ling was jumpy around him like a little rabbit. At the time, Lin Kang had to admit he did not think much of his so-called wife. Like a little rabbit, he kept her around like how one would treat a pet.

Then, as time passed and Xiu Ling grew more into herself, Lin Kang realized the mistake that he had done. The woman was a veritable diamond. With added confidence, she started to shine and Lin Kang found himself attracted to her glow...

Thus came the desire to get to know her better, to bath himself in the glory of her presence.

However, he knew better than to force himself on her like how he did in the start of their marriage. He believed that would only make Xiu Ling hide away from him and even worse, cause her to reverse back to the jumpy little creature.

He wanted to know Xiu Ling in her full capacity and not just a shell of who she was. For that, he knew he could not act all forceful and brash.

However, this presented a problem for Lin Kang. In truth, the women had always been ready to throw themselves at him in his life so he had never experienced or learned how to appropriately romance someone.

It would be far too embarrassing for him to ask his friends or family members for pointers so Lin Kang only had one source to take his cue from, it was his heart. He was going to follow what his heart told him, if his heart told him to take it step by step, that was what he was going to do; if his heart told him to take the leap, he was going to close his eyes and jump.

Incidentally, Lin Kang had landed on the best answer because, ultimately what is love but a connection between two hearts?

...

Lin Kang was pulled out of his mind when Xiu Ling said, "Alright then, if you're feeling up to it, I'd suppose why not. It's not like I have anything else to do for the day."

"Wonderful." Lin Kang flashed a bright smile.

Xiu Ling pulled Lin Kang to stand next to her facing the kitchen counter, which was going to be their working surface.

In that moment, Xiu Ling took on the demeanor of a teacher. "For today, we're going to make a sourdough bread. It's super easy to make and should not take too much time."

Honestly, Lin Kang could not say he mind Xiu Ling taking the leading role once in a while. 'Xiu Ling could try to take charge more often,' the man thought.

"Okay," Lin Kang said in acknowledgement.

Xiu Ling then reached into the piles of ingredients to pull out a small plastic container that was filled with what looked like white frothy goo. "The first thing we need is the base and in the case of sourdough bread, that will be a starter, which is this."

Xiu Ling explained to Lin Kang because she knew he wouldn't know any of these, "Basically, a starter is only a mixture of flour and water inoculated with yeast and bacteria. I've prepared these ahead of time. Then the next step will be to feed the starter which is basically adding more flour and water..."

The rest of what Xiu Ling flew over Lin Kang's head because one, he was too confused by the baking terms to really have a sense of what was going on and two, his mind was too wrapped up in figuring out ways to get physically close to Xiu Ling to pay attention to her explanation.

Needless to say, Lin Kang would make a very horrible student in class.
