"Tia, am I the empress?"
Today was another day, Gina abruptly visited me again, but this time with tears in her eyes. She asked me if I was supposed to be the Empress. This just made me feel extremely irritated. I had no words to say to due to her exasperate words.
Ever since she had appeared in my life unexpectedly four months ago, she often visited me, and constantly disturbed my work for 2 months straight. However, I had no idea that she still didn’t recognize who I was.
“Pardon me, Your Majesty?”
“Then, am I Lube’s concubine?”
The emperor’s concubine? Even if she wasn’t the empress, just being near the emperor required a high position in the hierarchy.
There is only one official wife of the emperor and one empress in the empire. Resulting both women to be equal in power. The emperor’s wife is on a whole other scale and can’t even compare to the other concubines.
The emperor’s wife is in charge of all the king’s concubines, and in urgent cases, she carries out the some of the empress' work in place of the empress.
Ever since eleventh emperor have granted the position of the emperor’s wife to his most favoured concubine, all of the others following the previous have never performed their role properly due to their lack of education. Resulting the title: “the emperor’s wife” to deteriorate.
“I am the emperor’s wife, Your Majesty.”
It’s been six months since Gina became the empress, but she still doesn’t know the difference between the emperor’s wife and his regular concubines.
It looks like even if I reexplain to her the difference in hierarchy, Gina still won’t understand anything due to her lack of knowledge of the imperial system.
Unlike the previous wives before me, I was handling all the work she was supposed to do due to her lack of knowledge about this empire.
I wonder when she’ll realize that calling me a concubine is a severe insult.
“Then… …”
It looks like she has something else to say again. What is that you have to tell me after all those severe derogations?
In the mornings, I usually don’t feel too well due to my severe hypotension. But, today I felt dizzy, even faint with a dreadful headache. Unfortunately, even with my dizziness I had to work today, due to the massive workload that was piling increasingly day by day.
Is that why, that today when she came to visit me, I felt extremely irritated?
Usually people follow the courtesy of visiting in the afternoons because they know that aristocrats stay up very late due to their social gatherings.
Even though Gina was studying etiquette for half a year already, she still doesn’t even know the basics. What the hell was the educator doing for the past 0.5 years!?
“I, I… I’ll come back later. Sorry.”
Gina hesitates for a while and leaves while stumbling. I was so sick of her visits that I picked up the remaining documents with a big sigh of relief.
I was thinking that I would have her take over this job next year, but it looks like that will be impossible.
