"Of all of the asinine things that could've happened on this trip, it just HAD to be a dragon at the halfway point of the third and fourth floor!" The young master, whose name was Shu Rong as Braedon found out, screamed out at the top of his lungs.

Dragons, the legendary reptiles from an ancient era. They were known to be ferocious, powerful, and extremely dangerous. Their powers were equal to or greater than the other legendary creature from the ancient era, the phoenix.

It was said that dragons can battle with cultivators several stages above them. Legends had it that a cultivator an entire realm higher than a dragon could still be defeated.

The most fearsome thing about them was their brains. Most monsters worked on instinct and attacked what they perceived as dangerous, but not dragons.

No, they would formulate plans, gather intelligence, and they are even willing to form alliances with each other or other cultivators. Fighting a mindless beast was simple, but fighting an intelligent one was just foolishness.

Braedon was running right next to Shu Rong and said, "Less talking more getting the hell out of here!" They heard a loud scurrying sound behind them and they didn't even need to think of what it was.

As the sound became louder, some people noticed a strange light coming from behind them, "EVERYBODY DUCK!" Braedon, on instinct, grabbed Shu Rong's shoulder and pushed him onto the ground. Braedon landed on top of him.

They quickly got out of their awkward position and continued running. Braedon looked at the monster behind them. His instincts told him something was wrong with this situation, but his mind was in too much of a panic to say what it was.

Several more fireballs flew up behind them. Some of their clothings were singed and one guy's clothing even caught on fire.

"We can't outrun it." Zan Fu found a small room in the cave where they were hiding from the dragon. They somehow lost it in the complex, maze-like tunnels of the dungeon. Mei Jia even had the great idea of spreading mud on their clothing to hide their scent.

They were finally able to catch their breath. But it wasn't long before a hostile air permeated the room. Zan Fu quickly brought up his sword and grabbed the old man with the staff. He placed the sword up on his neck and a stream of blood flowed out of the place where the blade rested.

"Nobody move." Zan Fu looked at Shu Rong with a angry look in his eye. "Why did you attack us?" The others, surprised by the development, froze for a second before everyone brought out their own weapons and got into a battle stance facing each other.

"Uncle!" Shu Rong looked at Zan Fu with a menacing stare in his eyes. "Let him go or else none of you will leave this place alive!" Zan Fu just shook his head at these words.

"Wasn't that your plan originally, after all you were the ones who attacked us first." Zan Fu's statement made Shu Rong freeze for a moment. Braedon looked at him and said, "When you first attacked, you said that the Yi family sent their best regard. Who are you really, I've met members of the Yi clan and they are nothing like you."

Shu Rong stayed quiet until Zan Fu brought his sword closer to the staffed man's neck. "Lower your weapons and speak now or you lose your uncle."

Shu Rong turned his head and told his men to put their weapons down. Although his face was still covered by the black cloth, it was evident from his eyes that his face was showing an incredibly angry expression.

Zan Fu looked at Braedon, "They are Shu assassins. They used to be one of the greatest assassin guild in the country but they suddenly disappeared one day."

Shu Rong yelled angrily at him, "Disappeared? Your family attacked us and slaughter our people like pests! You treated it like an extermination!" Shu Rong explained how his guild was one day attacked by the Zan clan.

Without warning they struck out at them and killed all of their elders in quick succession. No one was spared, not even the children. Luckily, Shu Rong's uncle knew of a secret passage underground that could bring them to safety. This was thanks to Shu Rong's father, who was a high ranking member of the guild.

He explained how his uncle and he had to live off of scraps for most of their lives. They lived in hiding and were afraid to come out for fear of being captured and killed. They were barely surviving until they finally found remnants of their guild and gathered them together to make a small organization, bent of revenge.

His words brought a worried expression on Braedon's face, "Zan Fu..."

Zan Fu shook his head quickly, "We did no such thing, stop with your lies!" Zan Li nodded at Zan Fu's words, "Yeah. Why would we try to doing something like that to you? You were too small us for us to care about."

Zan Fu snapped his head in Zan Li's direction, "Stay out of this." Zan Li felt a deep chill down his spine as he lowered his head and took a step back.

At that moment something flew over and slapped Zan Fu across his face, "Then what is this, huh?"

On the floor was a simple medal, the medal was in scripted with a familiar looking symbol. Zan Fu's face paled at the sight and he slowly released the man with the staff. He bent over, picked it up, and started to inspect it. "This is..."

Braedon whispered under his breath, "It's the same symbol as the banner in your house."

Shu Rong angrily trembled as he nodded, "It's the Zan's family crest. That medal is an attack order that commands warriors of the Zan family to strike our guild. We also have one from the Yi family as well."

"But this doesn't make sense! What would we gain from attacking you?"

Shu Rong scrunched up his brow, "That's what I want to know."

Mei Jia walked up and took the medal from Zan Fu. She looked at it for a few seconds before something strange happened. The medal in her hand started to melt and become darker. It dropped to the ground in a semi-liquid state and formed a statue of some sort of demon.

The demon statue opened its mouth and released a piercing howl before disintergrating into dust. Mei Jia squinted her eyes in disgust, "Just as I thought, its the Shadow Guild." She turned to Shu Rong with a look of pity in her eyes, "You've been tricked."

Braedon whispered quietly to Zan Fu, "What's the Shadow Guild?"

Zan Fu explained that it was the best assassins guild currently in the country, their strength rivaled his family and they had branches all over the world. They also had some run ins with the Shadow Guild before and right now the Zan clan had a sort of feud with them.

Shu Rong looked at Mei Jia doubtfully, "Why would the Shadow Guild want to cause harm to us?"

At this moment it was Braedon who spoke up, "Well if you were a guild of close to or similar standing to them, then wouldn't they see you as competition or the enemy? If so then it would make sense to take you out while you were still small compared to them and then frame the Zan family which they had a feud with. The only question is, how did they get that medal?"

Mei Jia knew the answer to this, "The shadow demon. It is a statue that is made from a special material they get from their leader. No one knows what it is or what it is made from, but we do know that they praise it like some sort of god and that it can take the form of almost any inanimate object. Although it won't have the same effects."

"So they used a counterfeit to make it seem like we attacked the Shu guild and they-"

"Reaped all of the benefits since they gain our resources without the fear of us coming back to take our revenge." Although Shu Rong didn't like to admit it, this sounded plausible.

The more Shu Rong thought of it, the more he realized that the skills that the attackers were using were that of assassins. He was just to blinded by his rage and theedak to notice.

Shu Rong collapsed onto the ground with tears streaming out of his eye as he remembered several people he attempted to kill in his mission for revenge, "Then what have I been doing all this time?"

His uncle stepped up at this time and gently patted Shu Rong on the back, "Don't worry, at least you suck at being an assassin and haven't been able to kill any of our targets yet."

~slap~

Afterwords the man with the staff walked up with a red palm print on his face and apologized to Zan Fu, "You're quite the tough kid though, we could use someone like you in our guild. How about it, want to join us."

Braedon thanked him for the offer but rejected it, assassination wasn't his thing. He like the idea of using a cool sword or a grand blade better.

Suddenly, Braedon's eye starting twitching as he walked over to Shu Rong who was bowing on all fours and begging for forgiveness from Zan Fu.

"Hey, you know with all of the drama going on I forgot something."

Mei Jia looked at him with a smile, "What is it?"

Braedon pointed in the direction of the opening to their cave and said, "That f*cking thing."

The dragon was quickly scurrying in their direction, like a tiger finding its prey.

Everyone scrambled to move away from the opening as the three friends and Shu ring gathered together. "Is this the end of us?"

Braedon shook his head, "No, we have superior numbers and this is only the third or fourth floor. At most, that thing is at the fourth realm, we should barely be able to handle it right?"

Zan Fu smirked at him, "Only one way to find out."

He ran straight towards the opening and jumped up as he flew over the dragon's head, he slammed his weapon down onto the head of the beast dealing almost no damage.

"Fight to the death!"
