Braedon woke up to a stiff neck and darkness. After cracking his neck a bit, he went to check up on the outside and noticed something weird. The sun wasn't out yet, usually the sun would be out by now but instead the only thing in the sky was a black circle.

Just as he was about to wake up Kai Jun and ask what was going on a voice called out behind him, "It's an eclipse." Braedon turned round to find Kai Jun looking toward the sky with a serious expression on his face.

He looked up at the sky then down to Kai Jun several times, "Is something wrong? You seem a little mad."

Kai Jun's serious expression melted away as he gave off a short sigh, "I just have unpleasant memories of events happening during an eclipse. Anyway, are you ready for training today?"

Braedon's face blanched a little as he was not ready, but he knew that this question was only for courtesy. He took in a deep breath as he prepared himself mentally, "Let's do this."

They left the small cabin and started to move at high speeds in what felt to Braedon like a random direction. They stopped after traveling for ten minutes and reached an area of the forest that almost made Braedon turn around and run off.

Actually it was more like he did try to run but Kai Jun grabbed him by his collar and dragged him back. He looked at the moving forest before him. The more he blinked the more the forest looked like what it truly was, a large group of gigantic serpents wrapping themselves around the trees.

It surprisingly only took him half a year to handle the rhinoceros in the crater but now he had to deal with dozens of gigantic snakes. He felt faint and swore that he recently developed a whole new hatred for nature.

Of course rejecting the mission was a no go. Unless he wanted to feel the pain of Kai Jun never cooking for him again. He knew that he could only clench his fist, grit his teeth, and prepare himself for whatever was coming next.

He took a few steps forward but Kai Jun grabbed his shoulder. "Wait, it is almost impossible for you to defeat even one of those snakes-"

Braedon shot around looking directly into Kai Jun's eyes, "Then why are we here?!" A creepy smiled formed on his face while answering Braedon's question, "-Right now. But once you master what I'm about to show you then everything will be within your grasp."

He the brought Braedon back to the cabin to begin his lesson. "You don't know about this since you've never seen the entity fight, but he has a special ability that you should also share with him. A strange but powerful weapon in the shape of a burning feather."

Braedon raised up one of his eyebrows, "How powerful can a feather really be?" A single finger was placed upon his lips to silent him down, "Don't underestimate it, once you obtain this feather it will become your bonded weapon."

This surprised Braedon, he knew what bonded weapons were but he didn't think his would be a feather, "Wait! Can't bonded weapons only be obtained by someone in the fourth realm?"

Kai Jun looked at him like he was an idiot, "Yeah, and that's why you're getting one. You are already in the fourth realm." Braedon jumped back in surprise. He didn't remember ever breaking through or any tribulation occurring.

"When did I do that? No tribulation occurred." Kai Jun rubbed his chin while trying to explain, "Remember how some of the rhinoceroses that you battled were covered in an armor of lightning, the heavens took that as your tribulation."

Kai Jun pushed his long hair back while continuing, "despite everything, the heavens are fair. They have accepted that you are without a physical body and know that if a real tribulation occurred you would be dead without a doubt. So they gave you a different challenge, those armors beasts."

"Isn't that a little unfair, I feel like I'm being favored a little." Braedon still couldn't accept that answer. Shouldn't the heavens be a merciless, ruthless, and unbiased existence that attempts to strike them down whenever they are about to break through?

"You have the right mentality, they are usually unbiased, technically all of the tribulations every and all cultivators face should be one hundred percent beatable. The problem is that Heaven also adds in the amount of money, power, and friends they have."

He brought over a piece of wood and displayed it in front of Braedon, "This means that if you have a piece of wood that protects you against lightning in one hand and another piece at your house, Heaven accounts for both pieces and strike you accordingly, instead of just accepting one piece."

He threw away the wood and grabbed a branch to replace it, "Stuff like having the money to buy defensive treasure or friends who can loan you equipment are accounted for as well, so Haven is fair, just blind."

He explained this like it was a simple and well known fact. Braedon on the other hand felt as if he just learned a forbidden secret that will cause chaos in the world if spread around. "Kai Jun, how do you know so much about this?"

He gave off a nostalgic smile as he looked into the far distance, "There was a time when I hated the heavens for something they did. As revenge I started a war against them and as they say know thy enemy."

An even more shocking and terrifying secret was told to Braedon. He now felt like he was being taught something dangerous by a war criminal. "Well my past doesn't make up who I am now so don't wor- why are you so far away?"

Braedon stood with his back against the wall facing Kai Jun, "No reason."

The spent a few hours trying out different ways to bring out the feather. Braedon was told that the feather was made of pure life force, it wouldn't harm him in any way but it was extremely hard to summon.

The life force was suppose to be dragged out of his body and morphed into the proper shape, then his "heaven's force" should bind with it creating a entirely new power source that was bonded to him. It was as if his power doubled whenever he held the weapon, or so he was told.

The more he tried, the more failures he built up. But Braedon would never quit. Instead every night when Kai Jun went to sleep, he stood outside and tried practicing over control over his power.

Of course without him noticing, Kai Jun would watch over him to make sure he didn't go too far. One night when he thought that Braedon should've had enough experience to notice when to stop, he took a short nap.

Slowly Braedon drew out his power, "It's not working! I need to try something different. But what can it be?" He looked at his own hand and thought about himself. He thought back to Kai Jun's description of the weapons, "a burning feather."

He focused himself and calmed his heart. A green wispy fog escaped his body and gathered around his hand. As the shape was being formed in his mind, so did the fog reshape itself along with his image.

"Burning...burning...burning to ashes...burning to death...and from death comes rebirth." Suddenly the feather in his hand was lit aflame. The fires burned his hand to a crisp but the energy found inside of the flaming feather would regenerate it good as new.

This continued several times until finally one regenerated hand was completely immune to the flames. Braedon closed his eyes and began to meditate, he felt the power of the weapon flow through him and heard what seemed like its voice whisper in his mind.

"Thou shall be I and I shall be thou. I am the feather of heavenly flames that burns those who shall go against us." As the power continued to grow, Kai Jun, who was sleeping nearby, shot up awake.

His eyes shot toward Braedon with an odd power surrounding them. They were covered in a golden flame with lightning bolts flying around deep in his pupils. A strange smile slowly crept onto his face.

"It has begun."
