"What's the Shi Trial Tower?" It was the first time Shi Li has heard of the phrase.

"As I said, most people have never entered it yet, not to mention heard of it, so it's not unusual for you to not know of it," Senior Yan lightly chuckled. "The Shi Trial Tower could be said to be a place where the most important techniques of the Shi clan are held."

"The most important techniques?" Shi Li raised his eyebrows in disbelief. He wanted to believe it, but since he hasn't seen it yet, he felt like it was just baseless accusations.

Senior Yan ignored Shi Li's feelings and continjed. "Indeed, the most important techniques of the Shi clan. I'm sure you've heard about the Half-Sky grade technique our clan has from your father before, right?"

Shi Li tried to recall this and nodded after a while. "Yeah, and so?"

"Well that came from the Shi Trial Tower," Senior Yan said it like it was a matter of fact. "Not only Half-Sky grade techniques, even true Sky grade techniques could be found in the tower!"

Shi Li felt like there was something off if Senior Yan could say that. "If Sky grade techniques can be obtained from the tower, then why hasn't our clan prospered these past few years?"

Senior Yan awkwardly laughed as he scratched his cheeks. "Well that's because..."

"Even though the tower is very generous in its rewards, the tower is also very dangerous thanks to it. As they say, high risk, high reward. Haven't you heard of the phrase before?"

Shi Li bowed his head as he tried to recalled the phrase. He only recalled it after remembering the phrase on a novel he read.

'So I guess the things I've read in those novels back then apply here as well?' Shi Li felt like his life would be in a lot more danger thanks to this realization.

He placed this thought at the back of his mind and asked, "So Senior Yan, you want me to enter the Shi Trial Tower a month later?"

Senior Yan nodded before smiling. "That's right. Let's start our training by starting with the formal disciple ceremony."

He instantly had a serious expression on his face as he released all of the qi in his body, forming a qi barrier surrounding the two of them.

"The ceremony is quite simple. With me being your master, I have to chant special words which will be acknowledged by the Way of Heaven. The Way of Heaven is the principle that governs all so you can rest assured that this will truly be formal."

"Afterwards, you have to chant some words as well, accepting me as your master and such. This will be done by your body subconsciously, which means you don't have to memorize anything. Are you okay with that?"

Shi Li shrugged as he knew that with the things he was able to do, Senior Yan was the most mysterious person within the clan. "Let's start."

Senior Yan nodded as he sat cross-legged while facing the skies above. He then urged Shi Li to sit cross-legged as well, to which Shi Li followed.

After taking a few deep breaths, Senior Yan started to chant.

"With the Way of Heaven as the overseer, I, Hei Yanhuan, shall be the guiding master of Shi Li. Even if the seas split apart or the world ceases to exist, this agreement shall be everlasting and no entity can destroy it."

Shi Li shuddered a bit when he heard Senior Yan's name but he calmed himself down as his body started to move by itself, specifically his mouth.

"With the Way of Heaven as my overseer, I, Shi Li, shall agree to be the disciple of Hei Yanhuan and help propagate his teachings throughout the prosperous lands. Even if the seas split apart or the world ceases the exist, this agreement shall be everlasting and no entity can destroy it."

At the instant Shi Li was finished with his chant, the two of them simultaneously closed their eyes as a heavenly aura started to descend to where the two of them were.

Shi Li tried to open his eyes and he was greeted by a golden light fully covering their bodies. It then spiralled multiple times around their bodies before entering their brains, forming a chain between the two of them.

Not long after, a cracking sound could be heard, making the golden light disappear without a trace. With the golden light gone, the two of them opened their eyes with Senior Yan smiling at him.

"Now that settles the ceremony. Do you feel like there's a thread connecting the two of us together?" Senior Yan sniggered slightly.

Shi Li didn't feel anything at all until a pulling sensation came from his brain, which led him to look at Senior Yan.

Senior Yan saw this and continued, "This is called karma. You'll learn of this once you reach a high enough realm."

Shi Li nodded as he asked a question to Senior Yan. "Your real name is Hei Yanhuan? You're not from the Shi clan?"

Senior Yan nodded as he explained. "That's correct, I'm not from this clan. To be honest, I was brought here by your mother and was told to stay here. She had the higher authority, so I was given no choice but to follow."

"My mother? What was she like?" Shi Li instantly became curious once she heard of his mother being mentioned.

"Your mother was a great prodigy," Senior Yan had an expression of admiration all over his face. "She reached the peak of the Tempering realm when she was 13, peak of the Creation realm four months later, broke through to the three Mortal Seals three years later, becoming an Ascended Mortal at the age of 16, and broke through the three Worldly Seals another three years after, reaching the peak of the Ascended Earth realm at the age of 19."

"She then took four years to break the three Heavenly Seals on her body, becoming a Primordial Human and reaching the peak of the Ascended Sky realm at the age of 23. It took her two years to integrate the seals and form her Principle, breaking through the True Principle realm at the age of 25."

He then gave out a long sigh.

"It was at this time that she met your father."

Shi Li was so engrossed in the story that it took him a while to come back to reality. He then looked at Senior Yan with feverish eyes and asked, "What's the Ascended Earth realm? The Ascended Sky realm? Why haven't I heard of these names before?"

Senior Yan expected Shi Li to ask his mother's name rather than talk about those realms, but he then realized where they were. "You might've heard from your father that the peak is the Ascended Mortal realm where they can live one and a half times longer than normal humans."

"Well...that realm could be said to be the beginning realm in the true path of cultivation," Senior Yan said seriously.

"If you listened to your father, the body has nine seals within, sealing the true potential of a person. There are three realms of cultivation which break through three seals every realm. These are the Ascended Mortal, Ascended Earth, and Ascended Sky realm in that order."

"The first three seals to be broken are the Three Mortal Seals, after that are the Three Worldly Seals, and the last seals to be broken are the Three Heavenly Seals. That's all you have to know for now."

Shi Li was dazed from the influx of information, but he came to not long after, assimilating all of the information he heard into his mind.

'It seems that the Ascended Mortal realm is not the limit. There's still a bigger world beyond that realm, I wonder how long it'll take me to reach that high of a realm,' Shi Li thought.

Changing the topic, Shi Li asked Senior Yan sincerely, "What's the name of my mother?"

Senior Yan gulped a bit of saliva because of how the two topics were polar opposites. But even then, Senior Yan was able to remain calm as he answered with three words.

"Hua Weiqing."
