Muttering about the beast starts to spread throughout the army. The scared faces around gives me two ways of thinking, if we let that thing live, it is going to bother the minds of our army heavily.

But fighting it is dangerous and might bring some of them to quit entirely. The choice we had to make was enormous, the consequences? Live or die. A wrong choice would doom three species to be enslaved by demons.

Instead of gathering our leaders again, we ask everyone to sit down and think about the two choices. We build a ballot cabin, hand out one piece of paper to everyone. We can't decide this for them, they had to do it themselves.

The voting process took several hours, including preparation, time to think and the vote itself. Counting out the votes took another hour, in summary : four hours.

Earlier despaired faces have brightened up a little, conversations about the vote started, even though the awkward and scary silence was not yet gone.

After counting the votes, our result was heavily onesided. There were only three votes against the winner. Only three that didn't want to fight. A decision was made, the beast was to be slain.

Once again, we wanted to test things out first. We only had few archers and long range magicians, but they all launched their attacks at the moving mountain. The hits were verified, as the Mimicry Basilisk growled and released more poison on top of itself, it was now dense enough to be seen.

We proceeded to attack like this, putting no risk by standing in a distance. After a few more bursts of hits, it let out a high pitch scream. It was pretty loud, but after a few seconds Cecilia got it silenced. Not entirely, but enough to make us able to attack again.

The next salvo made the beast shake, then stand up. As it stood up, the village disappears, it turns into a red meaty mass slowly progressing to be a part of the beast again. It looked nasty.

Our reactions on it standing up was to be expected. A few gasps and wide opened eyes. How else are you supposed to react to a beast that would fit three royal castles in height? Its shadow slowly grew aswell, until it surrounds us too. What made us start this fight?

The basilisk was more of a giant turtle as it was now, but a few parts of it started to loosen, revealing one long and wide part. A snake. We all were mesmerized by the process, although it looked like a butcher preparing rotten meat.

As its legs turned to a snake again, its 'belly' was opened and a big greenish red ball dropped. I suppose those were the previous prey. Afterwards the upper body slowly sund to the ground and opened aswell, it was now a snake beast again.

It lifted its head up high in the air, seemingly searching for something, while the pale red body color slowly turned into a more deep red. We held our breath until it saw us. Its head nosedived downwards, progressing towards us really fastly.

Our formation was dropped the instant it appeared in front of us. It was impossible to see its head from this close.

The first attack it tries was a simple sweep with its head, but several leprechauns use their shields to block it. They get carried a few meters but manage to stop it. Was this beast actually weak?

I wasn't alone with this thought, hundreds of soldiers screamed out a warcry, including me. We charge on right to the front, the first ones started to attack. The swords might cut it, but cuts this small don't do much of a difference. It was smaller than a paper cut for humans, compared to its size.

This was the moment a terrible idea came up in my mind. Climb up, pierce its head! No matter how big a monster is, a brain is necessary.

Well, I didn't have any better ideas, so I asked two soldiers for their swords - dismissing them from the fight in the process. I ram the swords in, then pull myself up, pull them out lift my hands then ram them in again. It was very debilitating, but there was no other way to win this.

My climb was easier than thought, due to the basilisk lowering its head to attack. I retract my swords after I reached the top and ran for a bit. As it suddenly tries to attack upwards, I draw my swords again, ramn them in as fast as I can. I succeed, but the attack got twenty of our soldiers.

I narrow my eyes, then go on with the climb.

It attacks a few more times, but this time the troops were alarmed, they dispersed early enough and dodged. Only barely, but they got it. Halfway up I get possibly even better idea than its brain...

How about cutting myself through it, then rampaging in it? I had to see how the insides of such a monster looked first, so I cut it open, three sword lengths to get through its skin.

It looked like a very wide pipe, with slimy edges and a nasty smell. I'll try this idea, no matter what.

I climb in, probably coating myself with that smell, then ramming my swords in one side. Unlike the skin outside, blood began to run in here. A better plan indeed. To optimize my damage, I bend my sword to be curved. This way, I could put the sword at one spot and make it exit at another. The damage dealt to its insides would be multiplied.

To do that, I had to hold onto one arm at first, then bend it with one arm. The first one was going really well. I put my sword into the desired postion, then try to do the same with the other one.

I didn't account for the slime. The hang gripping the curved sword got wet and slips off. A fall from this height, accompanied by a sword? Ah shit.

A single sentence floods my mind. " Do we fight?"

It was the fairy king. Yes, I will not go under yet!!
