Chapter 33—See How I’ll Punish You!

Mo Qingli threw Ye Luoze’s body over to Yue Yao. Then, unhappily, she said, “What do you mean by hunting? He only hit his head. Quickly invite over Ran Ge to look him over and make sure he doesn’t die.”

Saying this, she reached out and grabbed Mu Tianlang’s arm, dragging Mu Tianlang into the residence. “He was bullied by someone else. Seeing that, I rescued him. When his wounds are better, I’ll let him go.”

Mo Qingli continued to explain what had happened. The corner of Mu Tianlang’s mouth rose and he glanced at her,

“I didn’t even ask you, so why are you explaining!?”

“I agree,” Mo Qingli said, grabbing Mu Tianlang’s hand. The smile on her face deepened. “I’m so tired. I should hurry up and sleep, don’t you agree?”

After they entered the residence, Mo Qingli closed the door. Mu Tianlang casually flung the small fox out of his arms; the small fox glared at Mu Tianlang, then found a comfortable place to curl up into. It closed its eyes. What a day today had been — it was exhausted!

“Wait a moment, I’m going to wash my face,” Mu Qingli said.

She caught a glance of Mu Tianlang’s burning eyes, and felt her face become more and more red. Suddenly, she regretted saying those somewhat ambiguous words.

She had the maid outside fetch her a basin of water. As the ice cold water hit her skin, she instantly felt refreshed. The desire that had been simmering within her disappeared as well. She no longer thought of the blood that had pooled on Ye Luoze’s forehead.

After wiping her face, Mo Qingli placed the towel back into the basin and returned to her inner chambers. She found that Mu Tianlang was already lying on her bed, fast asleep. Seeing this, the corners of her mouth rose up into small crescents. She gently walked towards Mu Tianlang, afraid of waking him up.

She stopped by Mu Tianlang’s side, then gently caressed his face. If she looked closely, she could see faint blue fur on his skin, making him look even more adorable.

This wolf was a lot more cute when he was asleep. Mo Qingli lightly kissed Mu Tianlang’s forehead, then bent down to take off his shoes and drape a blanket over him. After all this was done, Mo Qingli quietly crawled into the bed, laying beside him. She stared at Mu Tianlang’s sleep face, then gradually fell asleep as well.

“Princess, the Empress has decreed that in seven days, you will be required to attend morning court every day,” Yue Yao lowered her head, conveying the message from the Imperial Palace.

It was said that in order to further prosper the country, all of the Motian Dynasty’s princesses were instructed to hold morning court to discuss politics. This would prove each princess’s individual capability and pave the way for the selection of the future queen.

Hearing this, Mo Qingli only took a sip of tea. She murmured a sound of assent, indicating that she was already aware of this situation.

Yue Yao, sensing at Mo Qingli was in a good mood, asked, “Princess, will that young lord be staying?”

Mo Qingli placed the teacup down. With some astonishment, she looked to Yue Yao. “It’s only been two days. Are his wounds better already?”

“What? Is it because you don’t want that man to get better, isn’t it!” Mu Tianlang interjected from the side, a hint of jealousy in his tone.

“Of course not,” Mo Qingli said. She looked at Mu Tianlang, who was currently reclining on the couch, and said, “I’m just somewhat surprised he recuperated so fast.”

Hearing this, Mu Tianlang’s mouth pouted. He turned his head away, no longer looking at Mo Qingli.

Mo Qingli looked away from him as well. She told Yue Yao, “It looks like Ran Ge’s medical skills have progressed even more.”

“Princess, this time… it’s not Ran Ge.”

“Not Ran Ge?” Mo Qingli asked, astonished. “Then who was it?”

“Leng Mei,” Yue Yao explained. “Ran Ge went to search for herbs in the mountains, so she had Leng Mei help out. I initially thought Leng Mei hadn’t studied under Ran Ge for long enough, and was not at ease allowing her to treat the young lord, but she inexplicately cured the young lord in two days. I now feel an entire new level of respect for her.”

Mo Qingli also sighed in admiration in her heart — perhaps this Leng Mei had some some use after all!

“Since his injuries have been healed, give him some silver and have him leave,” Mo Qingli said.

“Yes, Prin…” cess.

Before Yue Yao could finish, she was interrupted by Mu Tianlang’s cold voice. “Yue Yao, leave.”

There wasn’t even a trace of politeness in his tone. Yue Yao was stunned, then looked to Mo Qingli in inquiry.

“Yue Yao, you should leave first, then!” Mo Qingli said, catching sight of Mu Tianlang’s somber expression. She waved at Yue Yao, knowing that the expression meant Mu Tianlang wished to discuss this matter with her and her alone.

Yue Yao was shocked that the Princess ignored Mu Tianlang’s unreasonable attitude. This was a matriarchal kingdom, so the act of a male interrupting their conversation was absolutely unacceptable according to Daoist teachings. A light punishment would be to scold him for a while, letting him learn the proper way of behavior expected of him. At the other end of the spectrum, sweeping the man out the door was not considered unreasonable. After all, a man who did not understand basic customs was not an acceptable partner for most women.

However, the Princess did not seem to mind, and even listened to him. Yue Yao’s blind worship of Mo Qingli implausibly increased even more. The Princess’s way of thought really was different from other people. It was hard to make head or tails of what she was thinking.

After Yue Yao had left, Mo Qingli asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” Mu Tianlang said, turning away his head. It was obvious that he did not want to answer this question.”

“Is it about Leng Mei?” Mo Qingli asked, immediately following Mu Tianlang’s train of thought.

Mu Tianlang turned around, a surprised and admiring expression on his face. “You guessed it immediately.”

Mo Qingli’s lips curled upwards. She sat by Mu Tianlang, raising a hand to Mu Tianlang’s chest and petting the fur that was exposed by the gap in his robe. “Then let me keep guessing.”

“Alright, continue,” Mu Tianlang said, sitting up. His blue robe slipped down his shoulder, revealing his crescent-like collar bones. His eyes looked at Mo Qingli with great emotion.

“Because she’s a demon, or at least a demon that’s related to you in some way,” Mo Qingli smiled warmly.

Hearing this, Mu Tianlang sat straight and stared at Mo Qingli with astonishment. “You already knew about this?”

“Mmh.” Mo Qingli nodded.

Isn’t it because you’re upset that I took in someone from Leng Hanling’s clan? So petty! she thought to herself. However, her expression remained as light and breezy as ever.

“So you already knew, but you still teased me,” Mu Tianlang said, wrapping his arms around Mo Qingli’s waist. Suddenly, without warning, he pressed her down, his mouth forming a demonic smile. “See how I’ll punish you!”

Mo Qingli pushed Mu Tianlang away, her face so red that she felt faint. “I… I have to go to morning court, you, you can’t act like this…”

She felt a great amount of regret. If she had known earlier, she would have never helped this wolf! In the end, it was herself that was eaten.

Mu Tianlang’s body stayed close to her. His lips pressed against Mo Qingli’s neck. His breath was beginning to quicken. “Why are you acting like I wasn’t there when the news was announced? Yue Yao said that court was to be held in seven days. Doesn’t this mean that we still have seven nights?”

Saying this, he no longer paid heed to Mo Qingli’s attempts to resist him. He stripped off Mo Qingli’s robes, tossing them away.

Inside the chamber, the clothes fluttered slowly to the floor.

In the blink of an eye, seven days passed. On the dawn of the first day of court, Yue Yao rose early to prepare the traditional court dress for Mo Qingli. Afterwards, when they set off on their journey to the imperial palace, Yue Yao jabbered on and on about advice on how to win the Empress’s favor and decisively win political victory over her enemies… all of which made Mo Qingli’s head swell painfully.

Not because of the political talk, but because of the way Yue Yao seemed to go on and on vigorously. She didn’t seem tired, but Mo Qingli felt exhausted in lieu of her.

“Shut up!” Mo Qingli was unable to bear it anymore. She couldn’t help but lash out against Yue Yao.

Hearing Mo Qingli’s order, Yue Yao hurriedly swallowed and closed her mouth. The Princess’s appearance just then was so violent. Her heart was still shaking: pu-dong, pu-dong.

Mo Qingli’s surroundings were finally quiet. She draped herself over the couch in the sedan chair, closing her eyes and trying to make up for the sleep she had lost last night. Mu Tianlang that bastard had tossed and played with her so much that her entire body was exhausted without a single ounce of energy left.

On the way to the palace, she needed to quickly replenish her energy.

“Stop running! Where you think you’re going?”

“I told you to stop running! See how I’ll beat you to death!”

“Why are you still running? If you continue I won’t just break your hands, but your feet too…”

……

A sharp female voice suddenly came from outside the sedan, waking Mo Qingli from her hard-earned sleep.

At first, she didn’t want to bother with whatever was going on, and attempted to continue sleeping. However, that shrill voice continued to pierce her ears. Mo Qingli’s eyes flickered open, a severe expression within.

She pushed open the curtain of the sedan and jumped out.

The women carrying the sedan and Yue Yao, who had been following behind them, were shocked by Mo Qingli’s sudden actions.

Yue Yao asked, “Princess, why did you suddenly jump off? What if you got injured?”

“Princess, we haven’t reached the Imperial Palace yet!”

Seeing that Mo Qingli ignored her and continued walking, Yue Yao suddenly had a revelation. She told the women who had been carrying the sedan, “You all wait here. We’ll be back soon.”

She followed behind Mo Qingli, quietly whispering to her, “Princess, are you here to exit the palace?”

[出宫] – a euphamism for using the toilet

“I haven’t even entered the palace yet, how am I supposed to exit it?” Mo Qingli asked, confused.

Yue Yao looked around, then once again approached Mo Qingli’s side. “What I meant was… Princess, are you looking for a latrine?”

Mo Qingli drew a blank, then gave Yue Yao a supercilious look. She really wanted to open Yue Yao’s brain and take a look. She seemed to be such a smart girl, so why was she asking such stupid questions all the time?

She ignored Yue Yao. Finally, she found the group of people that had been making the noise. She raised her hand and prepared to push away all the people.

Yue Yao’s mouth twitched — wasn’t the Princess going to use the latrine?

Forgetting her status, she grabbed Mo Qingli’s clothes and dragged her back. She could not let these commoners see the Princess using the latrine. It would make her look too cheap!

“Princess, there aren’t any latrines in here,” Yue Yao said seriously, meeting Mo Qingli’s eyes.
