Chapter 69—Wanting to Press Closer

As Mo Qingli exited the imperial palace, she saw the worried Yue Yao waiting for her. A warm feeling bubbled inside her heart.

“Yue Yao.”

She opened her mouth to speak, but could only manage a muffled sound. Her throat sounded like sand scraping against stone, enough to make anyone who heard it concerned.

Yue Yao stared at Mo Qingli’s cheek, her expression one of astonishment and sorrow. Her eyes sparkling with tears, she asked,” Princess, you… how did your appearance turn into this?”

Hearing Yue Yao say this, Mo Qingli suddenly realized that there were wounds on her face. She raised a hand to feel her cheek, causing her face to violently burn in pain again. As for how she had received these wounds, she decided not to say; admitting what had happened would really be too damaging to her reputation!

She looked up instead, smiling. “It’s nothing. Let’s go!”

The act of smiling brought a new wave of pain over her face, enough that Mo Qingli couldn’t help but suck in a breath of air. In order to prevent Yue Yao from being worried, however, she rushed forward, not letting Yue Yao see her wounds. “Hurry, we have to return to the residence quickly. I… I’m so tired~!”

Yue Yao watched Mo Qingli’s clumsy acting, feeling her heart ache as a wave of gratitude swept across her mind. Wiping away the tears, she quickened her pace to catch up.

The women in this matriarchal society never cried!

Whether it was because the palanquin was violently shaking left and right, or because she really was tired, Mo Qingli felt her head become more and more dizzy. Not only that, but  her body felt extremely hot, as if she was boiling.

She tried to use some magic to sober her mind, only to realize helplessly that she had none left over. Her entire body seemed like an empty shell, leaving her as weak as any other mortal.

She must have over-exhausted herself today. Not only had she been hit a good couple of times, but she had used magic and martial arts later on, leaving her tired and helpless.

Ai… being a human really was too annoying.

Mo Qingli leaned against the soft chair of the palanquin, closing her eyes and falling asleep.

After a while, she sat up again jitteringly, opening her lapel and fanning herself with her hands.

So hot, so hot.

Yue Yao, who was sitting outside, heard sound coming from within the carriage. “Princess, is everything okay?”

“It’s, it’s nothing.” Mo Qingli felt as if her body was about to burn to death. She swallowed, the saliva alleviating the pain in her throat by a little bit. “How much longer?”

“Princess, it won’t take long!” Hearing the worry in Mo Qingli’s voice, Yue Yao thought that there must have been other wounds she hadn’t seen that Mo Qingli was eager to return home and bandage. She alerted the servants below carrying the palanquin to quicken their pace.

After a little bit more of time, Mo Qingli couldn’t help but ask again, “Have we arrived? Have we arrived?”

“Replying to the Princess, we’re almost there!”

Mo Qingli was unable to endure it any more. Ripping open the palanquin curtain, she rushed the remaining path to her residence by herself.

Yue Yao and the remaining servants watched in astonishment, their mouths wide open as they stared at Mo Qingli’s retreating back. Yue Yao retracted the hypothesis that the princess wanted to go back to tend to her wounds; the person she saw running looked to have a vigorous and robust body with no wounds. The Princess’s appearance almost looked like… someone who desperately needed to use the toilet!

Mo Qingli ran into the inner chambers, towards the place in her memory where she remembered there existed a small pond.

Before she ran to the pond, however, she passed a small pavilion. On the pavilion a man sat, surrounded by wine jugs, melancholy drinking to himself.

That radiant and delicate white neck was extremely picturesque in the moonlight, causing her to be engrossed in its sweetness.

Mo Qingli walked slowly to the pavilion, closing her eyes and following the sweet scent.

“What are here for?”

The cold and icy voice roused Mo Qingli slightly from her hunger-induced state. Very quickly, however, her body became unable to resist the parched heat within, her throat dry enough to spit fire.

The man in front of her pushed Mo Qingli away, wanting to leave.

Instead, Mo Qingli grabbed him. His skin was cold like geyser water, enough the alleviate her unbearable heat. She wanted to press closer to him, to feel more and more of his cold skin. While she was pulling at him, suddenly, a loud ripping noise sounded out as his collar was pulled off!
