Chapter 10—This King Will Be Merciful Enough to Save You (2)

“Wife!”

As soon as Mo Qingli exited the inner chambers, a crowd of people surrounded her. Feng Chenling grabbed her arm, staring left and right as if he was afraid this moment was all an illusion.

Now that Feng Qingjue had ascertained Mo Qingli’s well-being, it felt as if a heavy stone had been lifted off of his heart. He stood silently within the crowd of people, resolutely staring at Mo Qingli.

“You’re… fine?” Ran Ge asked, not daring to trust her eyes. Mo Qingli had clearly suffered a mortal wound, in addition to being poisoned. Even if it had been cured, without months of rehabilitation it was impossible for the patient to be ambulatory.

But… the sight in front of her caused Ran Ge to doubt her own medicinal skills. Perhaps she had overestimated herself. After all, in this world there were many talented and high-ranking doctors.

“I’m fine,” Mo Qingli said, gently patting Feng Chenling’s back. The corner of her mouth lightly curled up into a smile.

This feeling of being worried about really was nice.

Mo Qingli felt a piercing gaze being directed at her. Following that feeling, she quietly muttered, “Feng Qingjue.”

Feng Qingjue hurriedly lowered his head when he saw Mo Qingli walk towards his direction. He turned away as if to leave, only to be stopped by Mo Qingli’s firm hand.

“I’m… I’m sorry.”

It was all his fault. It it wasn’t for him, this situation would have never happened.

Mo Qingli was unable to bear Feng Qingjue’s guilty gaze. “It’s not your fault. I was too careless.”

However, hearing this, Feng Qingjue could only feel more guilty. He tightly pursed his lips, tears forming in the corners of his eyes.

“Qingjue,” Feng Chenling said, hurriedly embracing Feng Qingjue’s shoulders. “You can’t be blamed for this. If you want to blame sone, you can blame those assassins and whoever orchestrated the attack.”

Feng Chenling’s words jolted Feng Qingjue’s mind.

That was right, the main the priority now was to find who was after his life. That person clearly held great enmity against him, to set up such an evil scheme.

Feng Qingjue cupped his fists at Mo Qingli and Feng Chenling before hurrying off. This movement was one of the most respectful courtesies one could use back in his country.

Mo Qingli held Feng Chenling, who looked as if he would run after Feng Qingjue’s retreating back any moment now. Gently, she whispered, “He’s not going to leave. Don’t worry.”

Ran Ge finally couldn’t hold back the burning question in her mind. She asked, “Sixth Princess, were your injuries really cured by that blue-robed man?”

Thinking back to the currently sleeping man, Mo Qingli couldn’t help the small smile that formed on her face. Her recovery could be said to be all dependent on him.

She nodded.

“Then, is it possible for me to meet this expert?” Ran Ge rubbed her fingers together, staring at Mo Qingli with a wide-eyed expression of hope.

“Ran Ge,” Yue Yao said, stomping her feet. What was this girl thinking, being so impolite? She didn’t even use any honorifics to talk to the Princess!

Yue Yao hurriedly looked at Mo Qingli. “Princess, please forgive her. Ran Ge is…”

“It’s no matter,” Mo Qingli said, waving her hand. “I can understand her passion for the medical arts. It’s just that in order to save me, he exerted a great amount of concentration and fell asleep. You can come back another day.”

Ran Ge’s expression fell into despair.

However, both of them failed to notice the look that arose on Leng Mei’s face. There was a wisp of pure hatred that arose on her lovely face.

So it was her. It really was her!!!

“You brought me here to see them being intimate with each other? Pointless.”

In a rocky terrace a good distance away, Xiaoyao Yunyan turned away and no longer paid any attention to Mo Qingli’s residence. Standing up, he gathered his robes and prepared to leave.

Ge Yueming grabbed the retreating Xiaoyao Yunyan’s arm. “Won’t you keep watching? You know, that Feng Chenling really is an uncommon beauty. No mater Mo Qingli favors him so. Tsk, tsk… if I was only seventy percent as pretty as him, it would be perfect!”

“Hmph…!” Xiaoyao Yunyan pulled his arm away from Ge Yueming’s hand, coldly harrumphing. “If you want to look you can keep looking. I won’t waste my time on any pointless endeavours like this.”

Realizing that Xiaoyao Yunyan had genuinely become angry, Ge Yueming hurriedly stood up and followed after Xiaoyao Yunyan. “And I don’t know who it was, when, hearing Mo Qingli had been gravely injured, came running out without even putting his shoes on!”

“If you say one more word, don’t even think about coming to my residence for dinner!” Xiaoyao Yunyan shot him a vicious glare.

At the threat of having no dinner, Ge Yueming immediately adopted a consoling tone. “Alright, alright, I won’t say anymore, alright? Is that enough?”

As night descended onto the Imperial City, the many streets of the city became filled with a murky gloom. In a remote location on the outskirts of the city, a small manor gleamed brightly with candlelight.

“Paying respects to the prince!” A crowd of bodyguards kneeled, deferentially addressing the man sitting at the head of the room, Feng Qingjue.

Feng Qingjue downed a cup of tea. “Rise.”

He counted the men in the room, then looked to the head bodyguard. “How many did we lose?”

“Prince, we lost five. All of them died from a powerful poison. All of their swords were coated with it.”

Thinking of his lost brothers, the head bodyguard’s expression twisted into one of intense hatred.

“Did any of them confess to anything?”

The head bodyguard’s expression dimmed. “Prince, all of the assassins are now corpses. The moment we captured them, they bit off their tongues and committed suicide.”

Bang! Feng Qingjue’s tea cup slammed onto the nearby table.

The mass of bodyguards kneeled, quietly muttering, “Prince, please forgive us.”

“I don’t blame you. The blame lies on whoever who planned such a crafty and nefarious scheme.” In the murky gloom, the candlelight reflected against Feng Qingjue’s features. It was impossible to make out what expression was on his face, making whoever saw it feel slightly unsettled.

“Never mind that,” Feng Qingjue said, standing up and assisting the head bodyguard into a standing position. “All of you can rise.”

The rows of black-robed bodyguards stood up, row by row.

“All of you are to return tonight! I want you to tell Father that I intend to marry the Sixth Princess.” Seeing that the head bodyguard looked as if he wanted to protest, Feng Qingjue waved his hand. “Don’t bother anymore. I’ve already made my decision.”
