Besides the scheduled holiday breaks, the two events that were of the greatest interest to the student body would probably be the spring sports meet that happens during the first half of the year and the freshmen welcome parties that happen in the second half of the year.

During lunch, Peng Zige snapped his fingers and intoned, “According to what I can ascertain, Sports Day is almost upon us.”
(T/N – he’s using slang, here, referring to himself as 贫道 (pin dao) – a poor Taoist priest)

No one paid attention to him.

No one ever paid any attention to him anyway and he was used to it, so he carried on, “When I was in junior high, I heard that our school’s sports meet was the largest among all the schools in the entire city.”

Li Erqin had just swallowed some food and found the time to mutter, “Oh.”

That feeble response made Peng Zige ecstatic, and he moved closer to Li Erqin.

“Did you know that it’s possible other schools might come and compete in our sports meet!”

Su Zi laughingly said, “I’ve never heard the teacher mentioning it. What are you getting your hopes up for?”

Lo and behold, the teacher announced before the start of the afternoon class, “The sports meet is coming soon.”

At the same time, he also confirmed Peng Zige’s speculation – there would indeed be two other schools participating in the sports meet.

The teacher placed a stack of forms on Rong Si’s table and walked from the last row in the classroom back to the teachers’ table before saying, “I’m putting the registration forms on Rong Si’s table, and I’m leaving you to register voluntarily! It’s best if everyone is able to participate.”

Someone raised his hand to ask, “So we’re not letting the people who are good in sports choose their event first and then splitting the rest of the events up among everyone else?”

The teacher had not intended to spend too much time on this matter, but since someone had asked him, he had no choice but to inquire, “Who can run the men’s 5000 meters?”

Peng Zige smiled mischievously and shouted, “Rong Si!”

Immediately, all the girls in the class turned and shot him a look of loathing.

Sure enough, someone heckled him, “Rong Si is going to take part; Peng Zige, you should also do it!”

Another person very quickly continued, “By the time Peng Zige completes the 5000 metre run, he would have had grandchildren!”
(T/N There is a pun on Peng Zige’s name. The ge (歌) which means ‘song’ in Peng Zige’s name, is a homonym for ge (哥) which means ‘older brother’. The comment is that in the time it takes him to run 5000 metres, he would be ‘Peng Zisun’. Sun (孙) means grandchild – he would be old enough to have grandchildren i.e. he would take a very, very long time.)

Reacting on the spur of the moment to that comment, Peng Zige signed up for the 5000 metre run.

Innocent Rong Si would accompany him.

*The most capable people must do the most work. There was still the 100 metre dash and the relay run.
(TN: 能者多劳 nengzheduolao, chinese idiom that literally says capable people do more work.)

Su Zi, who was naturally crazy about sports, registered for both the 100m and the 400m races.

When it came to Li Erqin, she rested her chin in both hands and pondered for a long time before choosing – shot put.

It looked like the girls who had no aptitude for running or jumping all liked to choose shot put.

Li Erqin was no exception.

Peng Zige’s contempt came fast and clear. “Erqin, when the time comes, will you drop it on your feet?”

Li Erqin was equally worried. “It’s possible.”

(Minodayz:LEQ – even I’m speechless! (⊙…⊙) otherwise I would be ROFL (ૢ˃ꌂ˂⁎)

Rong Si laughed.

Su Zi joined in the merriment, saying, “How is that even possible?! Just throw forward with all your might, and it won’t happen!”

Peng Zige echoed, “That’s right! Our Erqin’s mission is not to injure her own feet!”
(Minodayz: Now I am worried!\(>0<)/ 加油 Fighting LEQ)

For the sake of the sports meet, their classmates organised several group training sessions, especially for the 4X100m relay race.

Peng Zige and Rong Si were also taking part in the relay run so when the boys were in the training sessions, Su Zi and Li Erqin sat on the sidelines, eating snacks and listening to songs.

The weather was no longer cold. The spring breezes blew continuously, and it was almost unseasonably warm. After the third lesson in the afternoon, the sun had just crossed its strongest point, and it now shone warmly on the skin.

One felt thoroughly lazy.

Li Erqin was wearing a cap and was sitting with Su Zi in the stands. They watched Rong Si and the others run back and forth.

There were also many students from other classes practising. The sound of laughter mixed with the chatter of conversation and the entire field was like a pot of water on a small flame, not furiously boiling but giving off billows of tiny gurgling bubbles.

After a while, Su Zi also took off her coat and ran down to practice. Although short in stature, she could still run quite fast. She soon surpassed the girls of her team and ran fast, widening the distance between them.

The shrill screams of admiration from her female classmates as well as the shouts of encouragement from the male students could be heard.

Only the corner where Li Erqin sat was quiet. She lowered her cap and looked out from under the brim for Rong Si.

The place where the 4X100 metre relay practice was being held was exceptionally crowded. Apart from the contestants, there were crowds of onlookers. As far as one’s eye could see, it was a dense mass of heads.

Despite this, with one glance she could spot Rong Si, who was standing at the outermost edge of the crowd drinking water. A fellow female relay contestant was looking up at him as he spoke. The barely concealed happiness in her eyes could be discerned even from this distance.

Moreover, Rong Si was tilting his head and laughing as he listened to her. For the sake of comfort, he had donned sportswear. One could see his slender white arms and perfect straight legs. Below the knees, his calves were a little fairer than his arms and were also very slender.

Li Erqin could not help but turn up her own trousers to look at her legs.

—- Very good, it looked as if her own legs were slightly fairer.

At long last, she was victorious for once over Rong Si.

She could not stop the corners of her mouth from lifting. She covered her mouth and continued looking at Rong Si.
(MInodayz: LEQ you stalker and ogler – but can’t begrudge you really! If he looked like who we all imagined it would be, we would also be ogling our hearts out! (๑¯∀¯๑)

(Minodayz: ok I’m YY bias… but ooooooo! Wish I could find legs too!) SHL : he has hairy ones, from the basketball scenes in Love O2O haha)

Not there?

Li Erqin became suspicious. The female student he had just talked to was still there but Rong Si’s figure had disappeared from that place.

She couldn’t help herself and stretched her head out to look for him.

Suddenly, a voice came from behind her, “*Looking for someone?”
*(Orig: What are you looking for?)
