Once the man said that, every other adventurers turned to focus on Arthur. Initially they had not been paying Arthur much attention. They were more interested in what the lady, whom Arthur now knew was called Lady Morgan was about to announce than a random stranger in the crowd. However, once the young man shone the spotlight on Arthur, they started to frown as well.

Some of them realized the man had a point to what he said. They could not remember Arthur being a part of the advancement tests. None of them came forward to attest to his appearance. Therefore, it was understood that Arthur was a late-comer. If Arthur was a late-comer, why was he part of the ceremony?

Technically speaking, they were not mad at Arthur. They were just confused. If Arthur had wandered in because he was lost, they would have politely asked him to leave, after all, this was a ceremony that did not concern him.

Feeling all the eyes on him, Arthur did not say anything. Realizing they were not going to get any answer from Arthur, some of the adventurers turned their eyes to Lady Morgan who was still on the stage. She looked to be the person responsible for this ceremony so if Arthur was not supposed to be there, it would be her responsibility to request him to leave. If Arthur was supposed to be there, then it was also her responsibility to explain to the rest of the room why.

Lady Morgan was feeling rather unnerved that she was put on the spot thusly. However, since the adventurers requested an explanation, she was required to give one. She told them Arthur was a special case and was given the permission by the higher order to skip the advancement test and directly become a level D adventurer.

When she announced that news, the shock spread through the crowd like a palpable wave. Some of them already started whispering among themselves. With his sensitive hearing, Arthur could pick up the stuff that some of them were saying.

"Special case? What does Lady Morgan mean by that?!"

"This is such preferential treatment! Then, why did we work so hard to get through the advancement test if you can just walk in to get an upgrade to your ranking?!"

"This is so unfair!"

Arthur understood why they were feeling angry and indignant. If he was in their shoes, he probably would have felt the same. Nonetheless, none of them came out to accuse them, they probably did not want any added problem either... or at least that was what Arthur thought until the young man who pointed him out earlier spoke again, "Lady Morgan, what is this special treatment that you speak of? Hasn't the adventurer's guild always uphold the value of fairness. We will not let this special treatment slide!"

The young man's voice was filled with indignant vindication. He seemed like the type of people who would not let any injustice slid past in his eyes.

After he said that, voices of support started to gather around the man.

"You know what, Frankie has a point."

"The adventurer's guild should treat every single one of us fairly!"

Instead of being cowered by the gathering support against him, Arthur's eyes lit up with interest. This was because he sensed the power of the Echo gathering in the air. He remembered the second Echo that he gained, the one he got during his fight with Emile, also started in similar fashion, with a mob riling against him. In other words, this was a situation Arthur could use to his advantage.

Lady Morgan had a hard time keeping the group of rowdy adventurers down. To prevent the issue from getting out of hand, she turned to ask Frankie who started this debacle, "In that case, Frankie, what do you suggest we do about this? Set up an advancement test just for the young man? But the tools have already been kept away, it'll take too much time for us to set up everything again..."

Lady Morgan was trying to force them back with the power of reason but reason was useless before a mob. Frankie cut her off, "Lady Morgan, there's no need to go through all that trouble. Since we're all certified level D adventurers just waiting for the certification, if the man can defeat any one of us, then we'll acknowledge his ability as a level D adventure. It's as simple as that."

Then Frankie turned to face Arthur, "Since I'm the one who called for this, I don't want to burden other people with this responsibility. If you can beat me in a match, then we will forget this ever happened and move on with the ceremony. If you lose, leave this place and come back next time."

It had to be said that Frankie wasn't particularly targeting Arthur. He had nothing against the man. He just could not understand why such injustice exist in the world. He had to fix it somehow. There was no talk of special treatment in his eyes, everyone should be treated the same.

Lady Morgan got worried because things were starting to get out of hand. She did not know about Arthur's background other than the order given to her by the higher up. The order was to siphon Arthur through the ceremony and award him a level D adventurer's ranking. In reality, Lady Morgan suspected Frankie had hit the nail on its head. There was indeed special treatment, however, unlike Frankie, Lady Morgan knew the reason why. Arthur was the son of the famed dragon slayer so that was probably why he was given the special treatment.

In other words, Lady Morgan assumed the guild was pushing Arthur through because they were giving face to his father. If Arthur lose this battle, then he would be chased out of the ceremony. She would not know how to answer to her superior then.

It was for Arthur's benefit that Lady Morgan attempted to stop the match. "The guild leaders have already spoken, you are not going to challenge the decision of the..."

However, Arthur stopped her and said, "It's alright. I accept your challenge!"
