Rocks and boulders fell around Arthur. Previously he made sure to move in a line that was as straight as possible down the wall but now the wall itself had started to glide and collapse. This caused the young man to get quite disorientated. And the situation was only exacerbated by the absolute darkness that threatened to swallow everything.

Arthur fell through the air and all he could hear was the rumbling of the rocks and the whooshing of the wind in his ears. Fear and panic gripped his heart. Images of himself falling splat against the ground and on top of that, being crushed under the weight of a landslide filled his mind.

He flailed his arms about trying to grab something to hold onto but everything surface that he touched either was much too slippery or too unstable for him to depend on. If anything, he only caused the place to collapse even faster and his heart to panic even more.

As his life flashed before his eyes, Arthur forced himself to calm down. 'No, this is not over yet! I'm not letting it end just like this!'

His brain turned and he quickly assessed the situation before he fell to his death. 'There's no time to overthink stuff. The most crucial thing now is to survive this impending fall and the following landslide. In that case…'

With an idea in mind, Arthur screamed at the top of his lungs like his life depended on it, which in a way was not that far off from the truth.

The last thing Ian heard before the mine collapsed to smother up the hole was Arthur's blood-curdling scream. Ian teetered left and right, and he used his hands to hold onto the wall as the whole mine shook.

When everything settled down, Ian tried to stand up and look around. He was cautious with his movement just in case of an aftershock.

Ensuring there was no more danger, Ian quickly ran to the hole. It had already disappeared. The hole had already been covered up by the fallen rocks.

Ian pawed at the rocks and a few of them slid off onto the ground. However, the hole was still plugged. While he worked, Ian screamed, "Arthur, can you hear me? Answer me if you can!"

All Ian could hear was his own voice echoing in the tunnel.

Eventually, he had to give up because he was making little to no progress. The hole did not look like it was close to opening up. With a grim expression on his face, Ian turned away from the hole and ran back up the tunnel, yelling, "Is someone there? Quick move some people here! There has been a cave in! I need help!"

The last bit of pebble fell on the pile of rubbles at the bottom of the floor and it was all silent again. The earth had stopped rumbling.

A layer of the wall had been shaved off and the residue had piled up as a small mountain at the foot. There was no light and everything was still.

Moments later, movement amidst the pile of rubbles shattered the silence. The small mountain started to slide and move. A particular spot was bulging up and the rocks tumbled away.

Eventually, a pair of hands managed to poke through. The hands moved and nudged about until a large enough hole appeared. The last bits of rocks were pushed out of the way and Arthur crawled his way out from the rubbles.

The young man's arms were scratched from the working in close contact with the rocks. Arthur's body was covered in dust. The first thing he did after managing his freedom from the entrapment of the rubble was to cough heavily.

He had inhaled plenty of stone and coal dust when the mine collapsed. It was made worse when he was trapped inside the rubble and had little room to move about and even less air to circulate into his lungs.

Moments earlier, before everything went down the fan, Arthur had calmed down enough to come up with a solution to save himself. Using [Vocal Materialization], he shaped a vocal force field around him. Essentially, he had used his voice to form an oval-shaped cocoon around his body.

The rocks and pebbles that threatened to hit him were bounced back and it also helped cushioned his fall.

As the place continued to crumble and rubbles fell around him, threatening to bury him, Arthur tried his best to maintain the vocal shield. He could feel the strain against his voice as the weight of the landslide collapsed on him.

Thankfully, he managed to hold on until the cave in stabilized. He had some cuts here and there but thanks to the thick jacket and the vocal shield, Arthur's life was not harmed.

Honestly, Arthur only had Sean to thanks for this. He was inspired by the man's [Wind Barrier] to come up with this solution that saved his life.

As the coughs stopped, Arthur straightened himself and started to look around. "Where am I?"

He looked up and the glimpse of light had already disappeared. 'This means that the hole that I came through probably has been buried. In that case, how am I supposed to get out?'

Arthur turned to look at the wall that he had fallen from. It looked so imposing from the bottom. "There is no way I'm going to scale this back up. The exit is no longer there and what if I risk yet another cave in? I suppose, I can only move forward…"

There seemed to be a corridor of sorts that led from where Arthur was. It felt like it was there, waiting for the young man to step into it.

Arthur did not barge into it blindly. "I need to assess my situation first."

Most of his stuff was unharmed but the rope around his waist had snapped. It probably got cut by the sharp edges of the rocks when the cave in happened.

Something caught Arthur's attention. He had been looking around using the weak light from the oil lamp. However, when he was examining the rope, he realized the light in the oil lamp had already gone out. Instead the thing that had been giving him light was shining from inside his pocket…

"What is this…"
