"I will show Keira her room," Zach's mother said after the wonderful lunch.

"I'm sure she's a bit tired and would like to rest a little," added Zach's mother.

Keira looked at Zach who smiled at her and said, "I'll check on you later. I have something to discuss with Grandpa about the ranch."

Keira nodded and quietly followed Zach's mom. For the first time in her life, she did not know what to do. She couldn't even open up simple conservation.

She had already praised Mrs. Lim's cooking during their lunch. And they had already talked about her meeting Lyra in the City.

'Shall I say that the house is nice?' she mused but chose not to talk at all because of the awkward silence.

As they walked up to the stairs, Zach's mother talked, "Did Zach tell you that our family came from nothing. But because of Zach's hard work and sacrifices, we've come this far. This villa, the ranch… It's all Zach's sweat and blood."

Keira bit her lip and answered, "Yes, Ma'am, I'm well aware of it and I also admire him more because he is a responsible man and dotes on his family."

Zach's mother did not respond as they walked through the hallway.

"It's one of the guest rooms, and I hope you'll be comfortable," Sheila said as she went inside the room. It was an elegant room that boasted high ceiling, fireplace, and a balcony.

Zach mother walked to the balcony.

"This place is a nest. A total escape from stress…" Keira commented unconsciously as she followed Mrs. Lim to the balcony and looked at the extraordinary garden view outside.

The house was very big and impressive from the outside. But the most important thing was that she could feel the soul of a family at Zach's home. Later, she would ask Zach to tour her inside his home, then at the whole land to see his ranch.

Her thoughts of the various activities she would love to do with Zach were interrupted when Mrs. Lim straightforwardly asked, "Do your family know about Zach's background. That he came from a poor family?"

Keira gulped because she could now get what was the reason for the sudden change of Zach's mother's mood when she learned that she was Field Marshal Chan's daughter. Their family had already been well-known because of their family assets even before her dad actually accepted the position of Field Marshal.

"Yes, Ma'am, they know everything," Keira answered.

This time Mrs. Lim turned to Keira and intently looked at her.

"They had him investigated? Made a background check?" Mrs. Lim asked directly.

Though surprised with the direct question, Keira answered immediately with a hand gesture, "Oh, no, Ma'am, please don't misunderstand. My parents will never do that. Actually, Zach is more like a son to my dad. He admires how Zach perseveres and he said that Zach was the best among the students he had so far. He also often mentions that Zach was the kind of a son who he longed for," explained Keira as she believed what her father thought of Zach.

"To be honest, Ma'am, I was the one who had an investigation on Zach as soon as I met him," Keira confessed, a bit bashful as she slightly bowed her head.

Then she continued, "It's because I fell in love at first sight, so I had him investigated to know him more and more like to stalk him."

Mrs. Lim was startled but remained quiet and looked at Keira's embarrassed face.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

"If I'm not wrong, I think you are worried if my parents will accept Zach or look down on him?" Keira asked as she looked directly at Mrs. Lim.

Then she added, "They like Zach very much, both my dad and mom. And I'm proud to say that my parents do not look at the background of the man who I will choose as long that man is sincere about his feelings towards me. That would be enough for them to accept him. My parents are very supportive and Zach will not be treated wrongly. So I do hope that you'll be at ease, Mrs. Lim."

Sheila was taken aback by Keira's straightforwardness but she remained silent for a while and looked at the view outside instead.

After a few minutes, Keira heard a long, deep, sigh from Mrs. Lim.

"I hope you are not offended, Keira. I can't help but get worried for Zach because I know how cruel your world can be. Though I'm not saying it's always cruel. But more often than not, the high society circle is where the rich people step on the poor without batting an eye," stated Mrs. Lim.

"Although Zach managed to earn this vast land through his hard work, it did not change the fact that he has a poor background. And I'm sure you also know that what Zach has right now is just nothing for the rich like your family. It still can't compare..." Mrs. Lim expressed her thoughts in her humble tone.

Keira couldn't help but held Mrs. Lim's hand with hers as she stared intently into Mrs. Lim's eyes.

"Yes, that's true, Ma'am, but please believe that no kind of wealth can be compared with how important Zach is to me. Because I'm willing to lose that wealth and status, but not Zach…"
