The next morning, Thea got ready and prepared breakfast early. Today, she would leave with Jeru who had suggested that they should register their marriage certificate first before the actual ceremony.

She had been feeling a bit nervous since he left her last night to rest because when she asked him why he seemed to be in a hurry to register the marriage, he said he would explain everything in the morning instead.

"What could it be?" she mumbled. She had checked the file Chin sent her about Jeru and saw photos of his family. She had a hunch that the reason why he wanted to register the marriage as soon as possible had something to do with his family.

Thea sighed as she readied the table and the dishes. Jeru's family was probably the type which gave importance to one's background. And though she was an achieved career woman now, her ugly past would never change.

She had no family and her connection with the underworld was something that no decent family would want to be entangled with. And she was sure that checking her background is something that was as easy as pie for Jeru's family.

Thea's shoulders dropped as she let out another sigh. She had decided to start a new life and worked things out with Jeru for her and her baby's sake. Her mind had even been busy thinking about ways she could be a perfect wife to Jeru, who had been very sincere in showing her great acceptance and consideration.

She was startled when she heard Jeru greet her from behind, "Good morning." He was smiling and Thea could feel the racing of her own heart from that simple smile.

"Good morning," she answered and gestured for Jeru to sit down so they both could enjoy the breakfast she prepared.

"Let's go to the Registry Office first before I drop you off at work. I will inform my family about our marriage afterward. Then we can decide on the formal ceremony," Jeru explained as he started to eat.

Thea hesitated but she knew she had made this decision and she had promised herself to do everything to make it work. So she drew in a long breath before releasing it to boost her confidence. She must learn to believe in herself. She reached for the main dish and put some on Jeru's plate as she said, "I'm not sure if you will like it but this dish is one of my favorites…" she said timidly.

Jeru was flustered but he could feel his heart flutter. He simply answered, "Oh, okay. Thank you." Thea said it was a creamy garlic chicken dish and he normally did not eat something creamy but to his surprise, the dish tasted really good and he ended up eating more rice with it.

Thea watched Jeru eat and she was glad to see that he seemed to enjoy it. She would not waste the good opportunity that had been given to her by God. The baby in her stomach was the greatest blessing despite everything that had happened in her life.

Jeru suddenly paused and looked at Thea. Their eyes met and Thea murmured, "About the formal ceremony… It's not really necessary to have it. I mean, I actually prefer to have a private and quiet family life…"

Jeru sighed with relief because that was also his sentiment all along. He would love to give Thea a grand wedding but he was afraid of how cruel the society could be toward her.

He would not care so much about himself, because he had never paid attention to idle talks anyway. He could ignore the whispers people would have about them. But Thea, he was worried about her… and their baby. Thea already had enough pain in her life and he did not want to add any more stress on her plate at this moment.

Plus, the major problem was his own grandmother, so he decided to give Thea a heads-up about her, who was well known by her nickname, the Old Madam Hitler. She did not get that awful nickname for no reason…

Thea's jaw dropped after she listened to Jeru. "So this is why you want to register our marriage now before your grandmother finds out?"Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

Jeru nodded in embarrassment and said, "If she finds out before we register the marriage, I'm afraid she would do anything and everything to stop it from happening… I'm sorry, Thea…"

Then he encouragingly added, "But please rest assured that I would do anything to protect you and our baby. So please don't worry about this…"

Thea let out a sigh… It was nice of Jeru to at least warn her in advance like this. She was also touched because he did it in fear of the disapproval she would be getting from his grandmother. And that was why he was apologizing in advance.

But after everything that she had experienced, which other negative things could possibly harm her? Thea smiled at Jeru and said, "I've gone through hell and back again, Jeru. After experiencing hell-fire, a mere fire won't be able to burn me… So, don't worry… I'll make sure I won't get affected by whatever it is that your grandmother would do to me."

"Thank you…" Jeru was comforted by Thea's words. He was so glad at that moment that he really wanted to hug her. But he controlled himself because he did not want her to think of him as someone who was just taking advantage of their current situation.

Thea caressed her belly and mused, 'Baby, let's fight together, okay? Let's fight for your daddy regardless of anything.'

Thea was going back to her room after she finished eating to brush her teeth. When she was about to exit the dining room, she paused and hesitated briefly. But she turned around and said to Jeru, "About my duties to you, as a wife… I really don't mind to do it. I mean, all of it..."

Then she walked out of the dining room towards her own room as fast as she could. She was shy… Although she was wondering if Jeru understood what she meant at all...
