"How is she?" Keira asked John when she visited Mara's ward.

Mara was sleeping soundly. "She does not let anyone near her except me…" John answered with a sigh of irritation.

Mara never allowed him to leave her. She would only let the doctors do some checks or procedures on her if John was with her.

"Hmm, it looks like she likes and trusted you, John," Keira concluded. with a mischievous grin. Then she added, "She is really such a cute girl, don't you think? She wanted to explore the world outside their island."

Being the playful girl that she is, Keira could not help but tease John some more as she continued, "I bet she's just a year younger than me. Or maybe a few years younger. But you could see, from all angles, that her body is already so perfectly curved. Don't you agree, John?"

Keira giggled when she saw John's face reddening from her teasing.

She then sighed and looked intently at John as she said, "You've been hiding well behind our family for so long, John. Do you plan to continue to do this? Because if you do, I think I have the perfect assignment for you…"

John scratched his head. He was not sure if hiding was the right word. His father had uprooted him from their country and put him under Field Marshal Chan's protection so he would be safe from the political chaos that was currently happening in his home country.

Everything was confidential. The Chan Family, including Keira, was the only one who knew his story.

"It's not like I have a choice…" John muttered helplessly to which Keira chuckled.

"Don't make it sound that bad. I guarantee you will grow to enjoy your new assignment." Keira reassured with a meaningful smirk plastered on her beautiful face.

John knew instantly that he would soon be in deep trouble, but all he could do now was emit a long deep sigh…

He was brokenhearted, and yet his job was to babysit a grown-up woman.

Mara woke up, and she looked so happy when she saw Keira. She rushed up to hug her before speaking to her in an unknown language while she kept touching Keira's body to check that she was really alright.

"Oh, she's such a sweet girl..." Keira gushed, adoringly, and gave Mara a reassuring smile.

"I will ask mom and dad to adopt her, and you will have to personally monitor her John. You have to make sure that she will learn everything that she needs to survive in this modern world. I will provide for her. Big Bro already informed me that she would need to be isolated for a while, not to shock her body as it will have to adjust slowly to our environment. So you two will need a good place to stay, away from the city," Keira instructed John as she softly touched Mara's face and smiled.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

"I will be your big sister from now on, Mara… You don't need to worry about anything because I'll take care of you well. And this man here will be your guardian, and he will also take good care of you…" Keira explained as she pointed her index finger to John.

'Guardian…' John thought with a crumpled face. What guardian? His job description is more fitting to that of a babysitter.

..........

Keira went back to her room, where Zach was talking with Cobra and Riley. Both of them were escorted to the hospital upon their request to visit Zach. Zach smiled as soon as he saw her, "You're back. How's Mara?"

Cobra and Riley also greeted her upon her arrival. "Mara is fine, she was glad to see me. John is taking care of her, "She answered Zach before turning to Cobra and Riley as she smiled and said, "Hello, how are you doing? I heard that the two of you will be freed soon."

Then she saw Zach gesture for her to sit beside him on the couch as he said, "Come here." Zach held her hand and checked her IV as soon as she sat down. Keira was still hooked up to an IV, while Zach already had his removed.

"We're doing fine, Ma'am. And yes, indeed, Ma'am, attorney Liam Sy said that they will release us soon now that our former boss is dead and we're safe," Riley straightened his back up as he answered her respectfully.

"Yeah, Ma'am, and thank you Ma'am for helping us out," Cobra added politely.

Keira frowned when she noticed how polite they were to her. She gave them a cheerful smile and said, "Please stop being so formal. Don't call me Ma'am, it makes me feel old. Just call me Keira. And I should be the one to thank you for looking after my husband during those horrible times. I'm happy he was able to meet kind people like you despite all the hardships."

Then all of them got startled by the sudden appearance of May at the door, as she greeted everyone happily.

"Don't you have work?" Keira asked, confused because she knew how busy May was at that moment, and she already visited them yesterday.

"Hmm actually, I went to Military Base to give Riley the contract, and they told me he's here, so since I'm nearby, I decided to drop by," May explained as she proceeded to sit beside Riley and hand over the contract to him.

Keira looked at May with an arched brow. She could smell something fishy. She had only seen those sparkles in her friend's eyes whenever May was excited to taste the dishes of a newly opened restaurant.

May noticed Keira's suspicious gaze. She gave Keira a half-smile as she defensively murmured, "Uhm, I need a bodyguard, and I want to hire Riley."

"Huh? Why didn't you ask John? I mean, Riley just got out of that hell, and you want him to protect you?" Keira puzzled.

"It's okay, Ma'am… Uhm, I mean, Keira. I told May that I'm looking for a job…" Riley interrupted.

May smiled smugly and added, "See? I'm just helping out a comrade in need, out of my good heart. Besides, protecting me is not that hard. I will even cook for him and make sure that he gains weight soon…"

But Keira just kept staring at her with a meaningful grin. This was the first time May's eyes sparkled not because of food but because of a person.

"What?!" May hissed when she noticed Keira's trademarked mischievous smile directed toward her. Keira didn't respond and just chuckled.

"Geez… Pregnant women are so complicated. Brace yourself, General Lim!" May suddenly exclaimed as she tried to change the topic before her dearest beautiful pregnant friend blurted any words to Riley.
