The blackened clouds ostensibly leaked with droplets of rain hitting the ground below. While the droplets clattered the dry dust arose as a scent filled the nostrils indicating rain was indeed in the air.

It was not too overbearing to be called a downpour but more of a drizzle. This wasn't much of a hindrance to the members of squad Malgrey as apparently their minds were elsewhere.

Attitudes might have been different if there were flashes of lightning. Hovering in the skies as they did, wouldn't they be prime candidates for a strike? This perhaps Taf would welcome wholeheartedly.

Of his teammates, the usually loud Lovren was strangely quiet. To his side hints of nervousness could be seen on the face of Luke and Cameron the antisocial extrovert was his usual self but even he seemed a bit flustered.

Close by Niesha continuously polished her broad sword. This Taf realized was her calming mechanism, in some ways perhaps she saw it as a friend and confidant. It obviously took her to somewhere safe within her mind.

At the front of the white hawk, Malgrey was the picture of tranquillity which was befitting after his heroic speech. From time to time he would utter some more inspirational words in an attempt to soothe the restless souls of his members.

On the red-feathered eagle, Taf was in a more relax state apparently unphased by what the other members saw as daunting. This was understandable due to the fact he was quite experienced in life and death situations.

These hurdles he faced have heightened his mind to be unprecedented for his age.

Though he and May were the youngest of the squad, wasn't it ironic that Taf could be deemed the veteran of the seven?

To him, this was similar to his time back in Marvel City when he 'encouraged' charitable donation from the gangs.

He understood that not everyone was like him and given time this will soon become a mundane routine for them.

Quite possibly in a decade or so they would be having similar thoughts leading their squads. However, they first needed the opportunity to grow.

Taf then looked to his side at the sleepy May. Obviously their battle from the previous night had taken a significant toll on her body.

What made it worse was she had just broken through to the 9th qi condensation which strains the body with each attempt.

After each successful breakthrough, it is recommended that a few hours of rest is needed. Which wasn't possible in May's case.

"  You're obviously tired why push yourself to this extent." He asked with a bit of concern. To which she replied,

" It's our first mission, how would I appear through the eyes of others? Our squad leader Malgrey is already having a hard time without me adding more ridicule. I have a few remedies that will help with my recuperation within my space stone."

Taf shook his head but she did have a point. In a flash, he summoned something from his ring.

" Speaking of remedies, I made you something this morning in order to put a pep in your step in case you did decide to tag along as you have. It's already heated and everything."

In his hand was a thermos which he handed to May. She smiled when seeing the thermos within her grasp before replying playfully,

"You knew I would do this all along, didn't you?" May thanked Taf then began sipping on the contents of the thermos as her whole body then became warm and hints of a process of revitalization could be seen.

He could only laugh as he replied,

" Actually I was lying, that's my breakfast and I was hoping you would refuse. Who knew you were such a greedy lady. Can't you hear my stomach rumbling?"

Taf held his gut in a ruse to get some sympathy from May who poked her tongue out teasingly in response to his antics.

Bzzz!

A vibration went off in Taf's ear...

" Nice speech." He uttered with a grin knowing fully well who the caller was.

" Kid It's a work in progress. It did the job nonetheless." Malgrey chuckled.

Taf then asked, "How sure are you that our target as of yet has not moved on?"

" Well in coordination with the city lord we placed some gifts i dare say they would not refuse. This was Malnor's plan." Malgrey stated with a bit of confidence.

" Interesting, let's hope everything goes smoothly." Taf then uttered.

??????

Soon Malgrey gave the signal for the demon beasts to cut their speed as a commotion could be seen below. Mother luck was obviously on their side as when arriving at the designated area, below they saw a large disturbance.

A caravan of merchants had been tied up and thrown to the sides of the road while their merchandise was looted by what appeared to be a group of bandits.

" Don't worry we're just here ensuring quality standards are being maintained for goods entering or leaving Starlight City, City lord's orders."

While rummaging through the caravan one of the bandits uttered as his eyes lit up.

Seeing the tied up merchants looking at his apparel he then grabbed his rugged shirt with dried blood stains between two fingers stating,

" Oh like the garments? Don't worry It's authorized, soon everyone will wear the newest trend in official attire." He teased the merchants whose mouths were stuffed with gasoline-soaked rags as a gag.

" See this right here?" He held a precious emerald in his hands before continuing,

" Not up to scratch, How dare you bring such substandard produce? Now it's confiscated for evidence." The bandits grinned after riffling the caravan to its bare husk.

Above Malgrey seeing all that was unfolding made a motion for his communicator then pressed.

" Target spotted," He uttered within his communicator. As if clockwork Malnor and Ava too phoned in.

"Ensure to capture one of these so-called bandits for some proper  'Interrogation'." With a commanding presence, Malnor delegated to both Ava and Malgrey.

He was the most senior and experience which let to few objections to his tone. He then continued by saying,

"As for the rest, let us show them what it means to touch those under the Dark Abylis's sphere of control.

Kill them all!"

Malnor yelled out his battle cries.

??????

At the most western part of Starlight City, a serious expression was now on the face of Ava.

" Follow my lead, today not one of you will fall, but we too similar to the darkening skies above will provide this land with sustenance.

Let the earth be replenished with the offering of our enemies' blood. Whoever dares to take arms against our sect, dies a gruesome death!"

Boom!

Qi ignited when the battle cries were sounded atop the three blue sparrows. The sparrows too bellowed, heralding their master's cry as they descended on the startled bandits below.

The merchants did something odd as they relieved themselves of their binding. It turns out these were undercover city guards disguised as merchants. They took up arms while charging at the bandits.

"Die!" Ava roared as she jumped from the back of her sparrow with her qi at the peak of the 9th stage in all its glory. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

A bandit at the 8th stage lifted his head only to see his body another direction as blood gushed from the headless corpse.

There wasn't even enough time for him to activate any of his art in defense against her slash. Such was the swiftness and precision of her movements.

Seeing the death of their comrade his compatriots raged as their qi blazed. All activated their elemental arts to supplement their weapons with elements such as fire, earth, wind, and water.

It lit what was becoming a dim day as attacks went back and forth causing a chaotic battle.

Some enforced the protection of their bodies with earth and water arts as well as sending earth and ice spikes in the air at their targets.

They even amplified their speed with the wind element. Surprisingly missing were the Darkness and Light elements which seemed quite rare.

However, it mattered not as where ever Ava went red liquid flowed like a river as though she was a goddess of blood. Like an art form, she weaved through the bandit ensuring all corpses were left headless.

" Fuck this! no membership is worth being slaughtered like cattle!"

A woman who was riddled with visible gashes all over her body yelled. Alas her screams would greet her in the afterlife as a sword pierced her heart. She looked at her killer who bore a distinct resemblance to the seeming bloodthirsty mask warrior, Ava. This was Ava's sister Selena.

Puck!

The mercenary spat blood all over Selena's face hatefully as her eyes became listless. The blonde Selena then looked to her sister with a cheeky smile as her victim's blood marred what was quite the beautiful face.

To be continued....
