Jia Li didn't say anything. Buoyed by her lack of resistance, he dropped a kiss on her nose and on an impulse, bit the tip of it with his teeth.

She opened her mouth to protest then , only to be captured by his hungry lips. Wei didn't hold back this time. He poured in all his yearning for her in that kiss. He let his lips learn the shape of hers, discover the texture, the taste…

Jia Li went from gut wrenching pain to a confused racing heart in a matter of seconds. She had been grateful for Wei's attempt at comfort. In fact, her affection starved mind and soul had welcomed his ministrations. But her heart wasn't ready for a swirl of new emotions which it was experiencing ever since his lips touched hers. She had no space for anything or anyone else at this moment. This had to stop now!

She unclenched her palms which had been resting on his chest and gave him a firm push. Wei's mind had sensed her resistance even before her hands gave him the shove. Flicking her lips with his own one last time, he disengaged and stepped back to look at her. Relieved to see some colour back on her face, he placed a finger on her lips, indicating that he didn't want to discuss or rehash what had just occurred between them.

She was grateful for it because her conflicting emotions were too raw currently for her to make any sense out of them. He leaned over to strap her back in the seat belt before shutting the door and going back to his side. They reached Wei's house in no time. Jia Li alighted the car before he could come around and help her with the same. Looking at her urgency to do so, he flashed her a wicked grin. He wanted her to know that he understood her actions and was happy that his proximity was affecting her.

"You are back? I thought by now, you would have taken the recently vacated place next to Tang. I do feel bad for Mei Zhen but I need to look out for my family welfare first. Please tell me that you are here to collect your luggage and move to Xie mansion asap," Mrs. Wang's poisonous words pierced Jia Li's fragile composure.

Lowering her eyes, she said, "I am sorry for causing you trouble with my presence here, Aunt Wang. I promise to move out as soon as I can."

With that, she went upstairs towards the room allocated to her.

Wei thought of going after her but decided that other matters needed his immediate attention.

Turning his blazing eyes towards his mother, he said, "let's talk."

His mother clamped her lips together with displeasure. She had wanted to say more to that woman rather than have her son defend and argue on her behalf.

"I don't wish to speak with you if you are going to only blabber in that chit's defence," she announced.

"No, I am done giving you explanations. I just want you to know that Jia Li and I shall be moving out of here first thing tomorrow. Until then, I request you to behave civilly," he replied coldly.

"Are you telling me that you are going to leave your house for that s***? Have you completely lost your head? Next, you will announce that you are leaving the business as well and shifting to that wilderness," she shouted at him.

"Well, to be honest, I hadn't thought that far yet but the idea of living in Moganshan doesn't sound bad," he goaded her.

Mrs. Wang wanted to pull her hair in frustration. She had hoped that Mei Zhen's announcement would have sent Jia Li running back to Xie Tang. After all, he was the one she still loved. But that cunning woman had come back with Wei. Was she playing hard to get with Tang or had she set her greedy sights on Wei now? In either situation, Mrs. Wang didn't want her anywhere near her family. Her husband had proven useless once again in his conduct earlier. He had almost welcomed the chit to the house as if she was the prospective bride. Darn these men!!

"Wei, you are my only child and I have tried to accommodate every wish of yours since you were a child. In return, I haven't ever asked for anything. But today I just want to beg you to not trash the prestige and values of the Wang family by associating yourself with that…err, with Lin Jia Li. Can you please accord this request of mine? I promise never to ask for anything else ever again from you," she tried the pleading tact with him.

Listening to Mrs. Wang beg her son in such a manner broke Jia Li's heart all over again.
