“Grandma, how are you…”

“Not well! How can I be well without you around? My back aches…”

An Xiaxia was flustered. “Grandma, are you alright? I’ll come see you…”

“Why, that’s great! I’ll tell Yize to pick you up!” After that, Grandma Sheng hung up right away, giving An Xiaxia no time to change her mind.

Half an hour later, she got a phone call from Sheng Yize. “Come down. I’m right outside.”

An Xiaxia was bemused. She told Papa An where she was going, changed her clothes and put on her shoes, then went downstairs.

After getting into the car, Sheng Yize leaned over to fasten the seatbelt for her. He then frowned. “You look awful.”

“I caught a cold…” An Xiaxia sniffled and Sheng Yize wiped her nose with a tissue. “Have you taken any medicine?”

“I have.” An Xiaxia nodded. She then asked in concern, “What’s wrong with Grandma Sheng? She said her back aches…”

Sheng Yize hesitated a little before replying casually, “You’ll know when you get there.”

An Xiaxia suspected nothing and didn’t ask any more questions.

The Sheng family.

Grandpa Sheng glanced at Grandma Sheng’s back. “Are you sure it’s a good idea to trick Xiaxia like this?”

Grandma Sheng rolled her eyes, which looked quite lovely coming from her. “If I don’t do this, how long do you think we’ll have to wait until your blockhead grandson brings our granddaughter-in-law to see us?”

“…” Grandpa Sheng didn’t know what to say.

The servant’s voice came from outside —

“Young Master and Young Madam are back!”

An Xiaxia felt a little awkward and turned to Sheng Yize for help. “Um… what ‘Young Madam’?”

Sheng Yize didn’t even blink. “Are you planning to marry someone else?”

“No, but we’re not married yet…” That title didn’t sound very appropriate to her.

However, Sheng Yize couldn’t have been more different. “Since you’re marrying me sooner or later, it’s just a title. They’re only using it in advance, that’s all.”

An Xiaxia couldn’t argue with that and stood there dazed.

“Little Xiaxia! You’re finally here!” Grandma Sheng welcomed her warmly, then held her hand and led her to the living room to sit down.

An Xiaxia was still worried about Grandma Sheng’s back. “Grandma, how’s your back? Have you seen a doctor yet?”

Grandma Sheng forced a smile. “Yes! Of course I have!”

Like hell! Her back couldn’t be any healthier and she had no problem climbing five flights of stairs!

The simple-minded An Xiaxia didn’t give it a second thought and only nodded adorably, which melted the hearts of the elderly couple. They then chatted with her for a long time about daily trifles.

Sheng Yize was left on the side. Rubbing his nose, he asked, “Grandpa, Grandma, didn’t you say you wanted to see me?”

“Sweetheart, don’t think too highly of yourself! We wouldn’t have asked you here if Xiaxia could come on her own!” Grandma Sheng said happily. She might as well have stabbed Sheng Yize in the heart.

Sheng Yize pressed his hands to his chest, but Grandpa Sheng snorted. “What good can you do by coming here? You have no ambition! When do I get to see my great granddaughter?”

Sheng Yize didn’t know what to say. “Grandpa, it’s still too early for that.”

“Early? Do you think I can live long enough to see that day?” Grandpa Sheng said sternly with a scowl.

Sheng Yize dared not talk back and could only turn to An Xiaxia for help.

An Xiaxia giggled behind her hand, finding the interaction between grandfather and grandson hilarious.

Seeing this, Grandma Sheng tried to fan the flames. “Little Xiaxia, you and Yize are so in love now. Have you considered getting engaged first?”

“Hm…” An Xiaxia was dumbfounded.

“You know, after that, he’ll officially be your fiance. You can have him buy you yummy food and expensive toys, and he’ll have to make more money for the both of you! The engagement will also keep away unwanted attention from other women! It’s such a sweet deal!”
