Qi Yanxi dragged Mu Li all the way to the rooftop and shoved her at the wall. “Are you crazy?! Huh? Mu Li, I’ve finally seen what you’ve become!”
He had met Sheng Yize earlier in the carpark and the two of them had bantered all the way to the classroom. When they’d reached the corridor, they’d just been in time to hear the conversation between Mu Li and An Xiaxia.
He still remembered her as that pure and frail girl. Since when had she turned into this aggressive, vicious woman?
Mu Li smiled sadly. “You think I’m crazy? Be my guest…”

Qi Yanxi’s hands moved lightning fast as he wrapped his fingers around Mu Li’s neck and pinned her to the side of the roof wall. His voice was devoid of all warmth. “If I catch you doing that to An Xiaxia again, you’ll be saying goodbye to Qixia!”
Mu Li’s face turned ashy pale. Qi Yanxi ignored her reaction and went on. “There’s more. I let you and your mum stay at the house all these years because your dad saved my mum once. I owe neither you nor your mum anything! If you have a problem with that, feel free to move out. I’ll be more than happy to see you off!”
After that, Qi Yanxi couldn’t be bothered to say another word. He left the rooftop in large strides.

Sheng Yize stood in the corridor and beckoned at An Xiaxia with a finger. “Come here.”
An Xiaxia lowered her head and walked out quietly.
He took her hand and gave it a comforting pat. He then took off his uniform jacket. “Put it on. You’ll catch a cold in those wet clothes.”
Sheng Yize’s tone was mild and natural, which calmed An Xiaxia down right away.
She put on his jacket as told. It was so big for her that the lower hem reached her thighs.
Sheng Yize rolled up the sleeves for her, then patted her head. “Can you walk? Do you need me to carry you?”
“I’m not that fragile…” An Xiaxia replied in a frustrated voice. Sheng Yize said gently, “Good girl.”
He took her to the infirmary, found her an excuse, and laid her down on the bed.
An Xiaxia was vexed. “What are we doing here? We should be in class now.”
Sheng Yize gestured at her to lie down. “What you need now is some rest. And… tell me, what’s going on at home?”
Tears welled up in An Xiaxia’s eyes right away. She held his hand tight and didn’t know what to say.
Should she tell him? Would he give her strange looks like the others? Would he taunt her relentlessly?”
“I…” She wanted to tell him, but stopped.
Sheng Yize’s voice was mesmerizing. “Don’t be afraid. Tell me. I won’t think of you any differently.”
Before she knew it, she was telling him all that had happened the previous night.

After she finished, he smiled gently at her. “Get some sleep. I’ll take care of your dad’s problem.”
An Xiaxia tugged his sleeve anxiously, reminding him of an abandoned pet. “Are you… leaving now?”
“I’m not. I’ll be right here with you.”
An Xiaxia closed her eyes while Sheng Yize held her hand. She was so exhausted that she fell asleep in no time.
