Chapter 66 Envious, Jealous, Hateful

Oxhead and Horseface escaped dejectedly.

The Monkey King sat down and its gold light began to fade back to its original grey fur. It put Jiang Shaoliu down on its leg and giggled, scratching its ears and poking him playfully.

“Hey, hey,” Jiang Shaoliu scratched its barn-sized belly with a smile.

A crowd of onlookers watched them from a safe distance, but no one dared to get too close.

The skinny and burly soldiers ran to Lin Yuetao and helped support him, giving him a few pills to make him feel better.

Beep beep beep.

Lin Yuetao’s smart watch rang again.

“Colonel.” Holding the smart watch up to his mouth, Lin Yuetao turned in the direction the two giants had escaped and said, “The golden ape you’ve mentioned appeared. The giants from the floating mountain have left; we’re all safe now.”

At the military headquarters in downtown Yungang City.

Xu Jianguo’s face stiffened as he watched the livestream footage of the Monkey King and Jiang Shaoliu. “Captain Lin,” he said in a low voice, “Dismiss everyone and get some rest. And buddy up to Jiang Shaoliu. We need to pay special attention to him and that monkey.”

Lin Yuetao nodded and replied, “Don’t worry, Colonel. I’m on it.”

Then he terminated the connection and looked up at the Monkey King and Jiang Shaoliu, who were still giggling and carefreely playing together.

Jiang Shaoliu stood on the giant monkey’s knee and said something while pointing at his stomach and making an impression of shoving food down his gullet. The Monkey King laughed its head off.

Standing on the western peak of the mountain, Ruo Feng breathed deeply and felt relaxed. He checked out his smart watch: “Battery at 52%. The show must go on.”

Now that the action had calmed down, a hot debate was raging in the comment section of the livestream.

“You could totally see the monkey communicating with those two giants! It was showing them that it was going to protect Doctor Jiang!”

“I think I know this monkey! When the Great Changes occurred, I saw a huge monkey and a human fighting monsters near Huaguoshan. I’m sure it was them! However, that monkey was not as big as it is now.”

“I think you’re right! They even used the same moves to fight the giants! Personally, I think the monkey taught him to fight. Lion Warrior has a heavenly martial art, but Doctor Jiang is so much stronger than everyone because he learned from this golden monkey!”

“Damn, I envy him so much. Why don’t I get a gigantic monkey sidekick? During the disaster, I ran like hell all over the city never saw any giant monkeys. If I’d known, I would’ve run to Huaguoshan and become the second Doctor Jiang!”

“Those who say that Jiang Shaoliu learned his martial arts from the giant monkey, have you ever considered one thing? The monkey was completely golden when it fought, which means it has already condensed a gold life ring and is certainly far stronger and more powerful than anyone in Yungang. So why doesn’t Jiang Shaoliu have a gold ring if he learned from the monkey?”

“I think Doctor Jiang must have learned a very special martial art since he is so powerful without going gold. There must be a reason he is not golden. Maybe the maximum level of metallization is not having any color at all!”

“Hey, I was about to say the same thing! Great minds think alike, I guess.”

Bang! Bang!

Li Xiang slammed his fists on the office desk in front of him as he watched the video of the Monkey King and Jiang Shaoliu playing together, breathing heavily with thick veins popping out on his forehead.

“The monkey’s techniques, Jiang Shaoliu’s techniques…” Li Xiang growled hysterically through his tightly clenched jaws, “I want them! All of them!!!”

After a while, he turned away and took a deep breath to calm down, then continued watching.

The video showed Jiang Shaoliu standing on the enormous monkey’s folded leg, speaking to it. Then he looked down and checked his watch, his expression turning to a frown.

“Xiao Bai has taken the rare fruit away, but we don’t know where he ran off to,” Jiang Shaoliu said to himself and looked up to the nearby military personnel.

Liu Guang hesitantly separated from the crowd and approached Jiang Shaoliu and the Monkey King, but didn’t come too close. “Mr. Jiang,” he shouted from afar, “I’m coming over. Tell the monkey not to hurt me, please!”

Jiang Shaoliu chuckled and beckoned to Liu Guang: “Don’t worry, it knows you’re with me!”

Liu Guang came near, looked the Monkey King up and down, and whistled, “Wow, this guy is one tough nut. I bet he’s eight hundred times stronger than my Xiao Hui.”

“I wouldn’t say that’s an exaggeration.” Jiang Shaoliu shrugged, looking a little worried. “Bai Long and Chi Xiao went after Xiao Bai. I need to go find him.”

Liu Guang nodded and pointed down the mountainside: “Xiao Bai went that way. He must be way out of Valentine Valley by now, and who knows where he went from there. You’ll have to do some tracking.”

“Right.” Jiang Shaoliu waved to Liu Guang, then looked up to the Monkey King: “We shouldn’t waste any more time. Let’s go find Xiao Bai.”

The Monkey King nodded and put Jiang Shaoliu back up on its shoulder, then stood up very slowly to avoid throwing him off.

“Mr. Jiang, I can’t go with you,” Liu Guang shouted from far below, “I’m exhausted. Just give me the good news when you find Xiao Bai.”

Jiang Shaoliu nodded, then waved to Chen Anguo in the crowd.

Chen Anguo waved back to him and shouted, “Go and find Xiao Bai, Mr. Jiang. Don’t worry about him too much, he’s a clever beast.”

Jiang Shaoliu chuckled, then shouted into the Monkey King’s ear, “Let’s go!”

The giant monkey was about to set off when Lin Yuetao came up to him and said to Jiang Shaoliu, “Doctor Jiang, I’m coming too. I‘ve been all over Sector 2 and I know the terrain like the back of my hand.”

Jiang Shaoliu considered this and nodded. “Okay!”

The Monkey King glanced at Lin Yuetao, grunted in a low voice, and jumped down the mountainside.

With a smile, Lin Yuetao followed them, a silver streak streaming down the slopes.

And those two people and the Monkey King were flying away.

At the gorge where the two fat parrots had their nest.

The golden tiger sprawled lazily on the ground, squinting at Xiao Bai.

Xiao Bai crouched down, waved its white tail, and made friendly faces at the golden tiger.

The golden tiger snorted and glanced around in case there was anything less boring going on, then lifted up a massive claw and waved.

Xiao Bai closed his big mouth and shook his head with a firm expression, then showed his fangs in something akin to a cunning smile.

The golden tiger grunted and reached out with a massive paw to turn Xiao Bao over, poke him in the cheeks and raise his chin.

Xiao Bai rolled his big eyes but kept lying meekly on the ground with a friendly expression.

The golden tiger turned Xiao Bai over on his back.

Xiao Bai rolled over a few times and stood up with dusty fur. He shook himself but did not resist or try to escape.

Eventually, the golden tiger lost interest and rolled over on its side, closing its eyes.

Not long after, a thunderous snoring sound reverberated through the gorge.

A sudden idea appeared in Xiao Bai’s mind.

After observing for a long while, Xiao Bai was confident that the golden tiger was truly asleep and began to slowly crawl away on his knuckles, his paws turned around so his huge claws wouldn’t clink on the ground. He didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.

After a tense minute, Xiao Bai burst forth with a flare of green light, a blurry shape whistling cross-country like a bat out of Hell.

“Mreow!”

Suddenly, Xiao Bai founded himself yanked backward and flattened on the ground.

Looked over his shoulder, he found the golden tiger’s enormous paw pinning his tail. The golden light slowly faded from the colossal claws as the bigger tiger rolled its eyes at Xiao Bai, as if to say, “Nice try, kitten, but you’re too thick-headed to escape from me.”

Xiao Bai’s brain remained blank for a few seconds. Then he curled up and made a shamelessly innocent face.

But the golden tiger didn’t get angry or annoyed at him. It just stretched out a claw to turn Xiao Bai over and then lay on the ground and resumed its nap.

It seemed as if the golden tiger enjoyed this kind of game. Eventually, it began to snore again.
