Chapter 69 Forcing the Golden Tiger Back

The Monkey King glowered fiercely at the golden tiger, beating its chest and roaring.

The golden tiger’s head was spinning on the verge of feinting. After staying on the ground for a few moments to catch its breath, it shook its head and slowly stood up, panting powerfully as it glared back at the Monkey King with rising anger.

Unnerved, Lin Yuetao turned round and said to Jiang Shaoliu in a trembling voice, “Just how strong are these two?”

Jiang Shaoliu shrugged. In his head, he thought, “According to the rhythm, the Monkey King seems to be preparing to fight using the Great Sage’s Formula. The golden tiger is also using some kind of breathing technique, which is formidable as well, but clearly inferior to the Great Sage’s Formula.”

Now the tiger’s four palms seemed to be plated with a layer of gold, becoming so sharp that they sliced through stone like a hot knife through butter.

The ground shook and cracked violently under the Monkey King’s feet as it amassed its energy.

With great surprise, Lin Yuetao looked at the Monkey King, then at Jiang Shaoliu and then turned to warily stare at the golden tiger.

The tiger and the Monkey King were like an active volcano, about to erupt at any moment.

The golden tiger let out a wild, earth-shattering roar and erupted like a supernova, charging across the gorge against the Monkey King.

Lin Yuetao tightly clenched his fists and watched with trepidation as the Monkey King roared and leaped into the air, aiming its powerful fists at the golden tiger’s head.

However, unexpectedly, there was no collision and the tiger slid under the fist.

As a result, the Monkey King missed its target and struck the ground like a meteor.

Boom!!

A massive crater a dozen meters deep appeared, while numerous huge cracks split open all across the gorge, meandering to well over a hundred meters away.

Jiang Shaoliu and Lin Yuetao staggered as the ground shivered and crumbled beneath them, large chunks of rock tumbling down the surrounding cliffs into the gorge.

The golden tiger escaped far away before abruptly turning around and giving Xiao Bai a meaningful and dreadful smirk. Then it sprinted off at high speed and disappeared.

Xiao Bai lay on the ground in a daze, blinking in the direction the golden tiger went.

Jiang Shaoliu couldn’t believe his eyes. “Bastard! How can a golden beast be such a coward?”

The monkey clambered out of the crater and returned to Jiang Shaoliu and Lin Yuetao atop the cliff, raising a broad palms to shield its eyes as it scanned the horizon.

Stout great trees and indistinct piles of boulders stones stretched all the way to the horizon in every direction, yet the sheen of the enormous tiger’s golden fur was nowhere to be seen.

“Damn tiger.” Jiang Shaoliu climbed up to the Monkey King’s shoulder and grumbled, “Clever bastard, it’s not metalized so we can’t see it in the distance, even if that makes it slower. We can’t chase down what we can’t see.”

The Monkey King made angry faces at the horizon as it allowed its golden glow to slowly fade away.

Jiang Shaoliu grabbed a fistful of the Monkey King’s fur and said: “Let’s go check on Xiao Bai and take the rare fruit.”

The Monkey King picked up Lin Yuetao and jumped down into the gorge.

Xiao Bai excitedly scurried over from the ground, the rare fruit securely clasped in his jaws.

As the Monkey King landed, it put Jiang Shaoliu and Lin Yuetao down and hoisted Xiao Bai up by the tail to inspect him, before nodding approvingly to Jiang Shaoliu.

“Let me have another look.” Jiang Shaoliu trotted over and jumped on Xiao Bai, kicking him here and there, then turned back to Lin Yuetao when he was sure everything was fine with Xiao Bai.

“He’s feeling good,” he chuckled, “only minor injuries. He’ll be perfectly fine by the morning. And here I was all worried!”

Lin Yuetao stared at him blankly. “This tiger’s your pet, isn’t he? Don’t you think you are a little too mean to him?”

Jiang Shaoliu scratched the head, “I just examined his wounds. It’s nothing he can’t take!”

Lin Yuetao was speechless.

Xiao Bai stood up from the ground, rubbed his head against Jiang Shaoliu, then went over to the Monkey King and spat out the tight ball of vines. He sat down in front of it, wagging his tail like a puppy.

The Monkey King ignored Xiao Bai and sat down next to Jiang Shaoliu to examine the ball, absent-mindedly scratching its back.

Xiao Bai snuck around and happily busied himself by scraping his sharp claws over the monkey’s lower back.

The Monkey King stopped scratching and closed its eyes, just enjoying itself.

Jiang Shaoliu chuckled and focused on the vine ball. He was about to pick it up when he looked up and looked to Lin Yuetao with embarrassment.

He had never stopped fighting since the moment he created the golden abyss on Liang Duan Mountain. Now he was starving again and needed something to eat, fast.

Looking at Xiao Bai and then Jiang Shaoliu, Lin Yuetao laughed and said with a kind smile, “Take a break, Doctor Jiang. Let me take care of dinner and then we can chat.”

He didn’t wait for Jiang Shaoliu to refuse before rushing off into the forest.

They made a campfire in the valley as dawn approached, painting the landscape a warm orange.

Drops of oil sizzled on the large hunks of meat propped up on the makeshift spit above the fire, releasing a mouth-watering aroma that made Jiang Shaoliu lick his lips in anticipation.

The Monkey King squatted on the ground and scratched its head impatiently. Eventually, it tore down a half-cooked slab of meat and took a bite, but then spat it out in disgust. Then its eyes lit up as if it thought of something, and it sucked in a huge breath and blew at the campfire.

The flames went up sharply, completely engulfing the meat as sparks and smoke went everywhere.

“Hey, don’t do that!” Jiang Shaoliu cried out, “It’ll be too bitter if it’s burnt.”

The monkey stopped, and slumped its head on its hands grumpily.

A dozen human figured stalked the night, each carrying two bottles, and stopped at the mouth of the gorge.

“This is it,” the skinny soldier looked at the fire crackling up ahead and popped one of the bottle caps open with a grin, “the Flying Moutai we’ve been reserving for so many years.”

They laughed. The skinny soldier patted the burly soldier on the shoulder and whispered, “Our captain doesn’t know how many bottles we have here, so why don’t we take one home with us? It’ll be our little secret…”

“Yeah, right.” The burly soldier screwed the cap back on and shouted into the valley, “Captain, the wine is served now!”
