Boval looked at the little room that used to be his room. He packed a lot of good memories into the last ten years. His parents initially moved into town with him but after a few months, they moved back to Elf town. Boval's mother, Endra, couldn't adapt to life in the city. The disconnect from nature was very hard for her.

Some Elves were like this; they couldn't leave the forests. Elves such as Dr. Mabi and Boval who could live for years in heavily developed technological areas were an unusual but growing group of Elves. Some took to calling them Cyber Elves. As in the days long ago when people designated Elves according to their place of residences such as the woods for Elves living in the woods, Dark Elves, for Elves who lived in dark places, and so on, Cyber Elves were named because of their preference for high technology centers.

Boval often visited his parents over the years and the addition of two more children, a boy, and a girl, helped his mother with feeling the loss of her little Bovi, as she called him. She still missed him and hoped he would eventually return home.

The only signs of occupancy left in the room were grease stains and burn marks where projects and experiments went wrong from time to time. Dr. Mabi encouraged the curious mind of Boval to explore all of his interests, but he sometimes regretted this encouragement given the damage his poor house endured for a decade.

It was important to Boval to maintain and improve his abilities in the three-five paths. He was in a new world and learned new things. He also had to adapt some of his practices. He wasn't as strong as he used to be. His current strength was like comparing the strength of an ant to the strength of a galactic mecha. Such robots could be as big as up to a small moon in size.

Many of his forging skills relied on using his physical strength, sometimes in the place of tools, to create things. He would use his laser vision to inscribe formations, his Wudi vision to determine the optimum energy pathways, and his Ridarn vision to look for and address any imperfections he discovered in his materials.

He had none of those abilities in this world and so he did his best to create technological analogs to aid him in his work. He kept most of these items to himself, but Dr. Mabi walked in on Boval using a device he called the Materials Scanner to check for defects in medicine he was concocting. The Materials Scanner allowed him to view the interactions of items on a sub-quantum level noting imperfections and energy synthesis. Once problems were detected the materials were put in his Materials Adjustment Array.

Dr. Mabi was taken by these technologies, which Boval combined into one system called the Materials Scanner and Adjustment Array. He talked Boval into getting a patent for his invention and then worked with a lawyer and an entrepreneur friend of his to take it to market. Boval made a nice fortune from the endeavor. He continued to make a fortune and divert a great deal of the money to his previously destitute parents. Of course, this was only because they valued money so little. Boval's contribution, however, allowed them to buy things to help the Elf village and build a larger home for their expanding family.

Everything was done with absolute discretion. Boval didn't like people knowing he had a lot of money. He mostly spent the money on materials we wanted to further develop. After this accident, Boval bought a really good lock to keep people from discovering his inventions.

After his trip down memory lane, Boval picked up his carry-on bags for the ship he and Dr. Mabi would take to the Sippar Imperial Military Academy. He had other luggage but those were being handled by LoaDrs, robots who transported and loaded things. These LoaDrs were sent by the Igmus, the military ship, they would take to the academy.

The Igmus was a Troop Transport Spaceship. Normally, the ship would transport soldiers and materials from bases or posts across the galaxy from place to place. On this trip, however, it would transport the numerous military cadets. Everyone on the ship already passed the tests and were official students of the academy.

Boval and Dr. Mabi arrived at the spaceport a couple of hours before departure.

"I guess this is where we split up," Dr. Mabi said.

"Yes, sire, I'll head to the Cadet quarters. Boval was already wearing his Cadet outfit which was a yellow and purple jumpsuit, dark purple vest, and bright yellow sun-colored boots. He also wore a little hat marking his rank as "cadet."

"I've enjoyed our time together, I hope you find the success and adventure you're looking for in the Academy. If you ever need anything, please call," Dr. Mabi said. He wasn't an emotional man, but Boval had become something like a nephew to him. He never had a student like him, a disciple, he would suppose. He was feeling quite emotional right now. As emotional as Elves tended to get at least.

"Dr. Mabi, thank you for saving my life and teaching me so much. I will never forget you and I plan on staying in contact with you. I'll need you to look over my research at least!" Boval laughed.

"Sometimes, you seem more human to me than I must appear to other Elves. You're always making jokes. Elves are supposed to be serious, young man!" Dr. Mabi said with amusement.

Everyone always accused him of being so like humans, but humans would think he was just another Elf. Boval on-the-other-hand seemed able to fit in among humans much better than Dr. Mabi. This didn't come naturally to Boval.

His Elf brain was wired in such a way where it tended towards being very serious at all times. Jokes weren't part of Elf DNA. They could be funny and tell jokes, but their humor was typically dry and rare. Boval had the experience of thousands of years being a human-like being with very similar emotions and ways of thinking. He knew how to simulate human behavior. He did this because he knew it would help him in the wider universe.

The two Elves took one final look at one another and without continuing their good-byes, headed toward the loading gates they were assigned. Dr. Mabi would ride in an exclusive cabin for the duration, while Boval would be crammed in with all the other Cadets in the ship's bunkers.
