Chapter 30 Chapter 30

In front of me, I opened the book and according to its records, began to place all kinds of offerings one by one into the fire that burnt in the middle of the dark altar. As the flames rose, I recited the forbidden mantra. The flame turned black in a flash, ‘it’ was summoned out by me.

Suddenly, I heard a low voice, "Who are you? You who are so bold to call me out. If you don't give me a proper reason, I will tear you up completely and imprison your soul."

The black flame burnt fiercely. The center of the flame was a vague figure. I couldn't distinguish the appearance of ‘it’. I knew that what I called out was not its real body, but its phantom. I didn't answer because I knew that it was carefully reading my soul and everything it wanted to know.

"Do you want more power? Do you want to vengeance?"

"Yes, please give me strength!"

"Have you considered all the consequences and vow never to regret?"

"Everything I do is voluntary. All the consequences are my own."

"Ha ha ha..." ‘It’ began to laugh, and then he continued, "So what do you have in exchange for me? I never give power to others in vain."

"Everything I have can be exchanged with you," I said this with a very calm voice.

"Do you accept whatever I ask?"

"Yes!"

"Well, my condition is…"

The flame continued to burn on the altar, it had recovered from the previous black to the normal red. The flames were burning progressively fierce.

The city! The city is burning, while flames surround the whole city. Under the tall and majestic walls, the living and the dead were fighting ferociously. The sky and the land were full of violent cries. The immortal army had besieged the city. The city’s military and citizens were still carrying out a desperate resistance, but what they didn't know was the reinforcements they were expecting for, day and night, had been completely destroyed.

A whole team of vampire masters, under the leadership of a wizard, were using fireballs to focus on a single point of the city wall; a stone catapult continued to throw boulders at this position. In the face of such a concentrated attack, no matter how strong the wall was, it couldn't be sustained. With a loud blast, the fragile and loose wall burnt by the fireball finally collapsed.

A group of zombies rushed through the gap. The skeleton commander was demanding to congregate more forces through this breakthrough point. Hundreds of ghouls closely followed the zombies, as their evil hissing blare echoed in the battlefield.

A shower of arrows like a ripping wave scattered on the top of the city. The zombies fell in rows, but their fatality did not create fear. The battle continued. The ghouls and zombies tread on the corpses of their companions as they rushed to the front of the city wall. At this moment several fireballs were incoming... The pungent smell of the burning carrion filled the air, a fire ignited by the fireballs stopped the attack. Human beings took this opportunity to fill the gap with stones and sandbags.

The battle had been going on for two months. The immortal army only grew larger every day. More and more skeletons, zombies, ghouls, monsters, ghosts, vampires appeared, but the defenses of mankind became weaker day by day. The power of dark magic and death was gradually eroding the city that had been under attack for a long time.

I walked into the camp. The whole camp was busy, but not a single thing dared to approach me.

"Are you looking for me, master?" A dark and cold voice appeared from behind me. I turned around and saw a tall skeleton. Its skeleton was much larger than that of an ordinary person. The armor on the skeleton had endured years of erosion yet was still shining as new after so long. It held a magic sword in its hand; he looked at me with the twinkling ghost fire in its empty eyes.

"Yes, Celon. I've already been waiting for two months, yet you promised me that you would capture the city in three weeks."

"Please forgive me, my master. The enemy's resistance exceeded my expectations. But I can promise you that if you give me another ten days, I will open the gate for you."

I nodded. Celon was a famous general in ancient times. I had revived him from the battlefield. Although I knew nothing about military affairs, I had also heard stories about his legendary military exploits. So, I gave my army to his command. He was extremely powerful, and I could also see his excellent leadership skills as a commander.

"You can go." I waved, and then Celon immediately ran away. He was preparing to launch a new round of attacks. As he ran, he gave orders to his subordinates.

I kept moving forward. There were some matters I had to deal with today.

A ghost came to greet me.

“Lead the way!” I demanded. The ghost moved forward, as I followed suit. Now, I didn't need to do any myself. The death force attached to the immortal army would automatically summon new immortal troops to join.

An angry voice, shouting and swearing resonated to my ears, it was rudeness and obscenity enough to make a hooligan blush. Then I heard a clear noise. I quickened my pace, and the immortal army heedlessly gave way to the center of the commotion.

A dwarf was standing in front of the other prisoners. His head was covered with blood, yet he was still cursing. Dwarf have always been infamous for their violent temper. This one in front of me was obviously had a bad temper too. Besides the dwarf, there was a broken skeleton. It was clear that he just smashed the skeleton with his head, even though his hands were tied.

"Shameless bastards, cowards who use traps to capture me. Do you dare to compete with me head-on?" He yelled at a zombie in front of him, but the dead were not interested in his confrontation. It was no use insulting them with words.

I went over, the demonic red in my eyes attracted the attention of all the captives. All the dwarfs and elves could recognize me as a necromancer.

The dwarf looked at me. He was not afraid. On the contrary, the angering flames in his eyes became more vigorous. He looked at me severely.

"What do you want, despicable necromancer? Why don't you just kill me?"

I laughed. What a righteous race! He was stubborn and as blunt as a stone.

"I won't kill you."

"Then let us go. I will take up the ax  and fight you head-on."

"Don't be angry, I won't hurt you," I said, every prisoner was surprised to hear that. "You don't have to lose your life for this war that is not related to you."

The dwarf looked at me in surprise. Then he looked around and couldn't believe it.

"What are you talking about?" An elf came forth amongst the captives and said, "Was it related to us until the army attacks our homes? What's your next goal after the fall of Dallas?"

I looked at her. In front of me, was a very beautiful woman. Her unique elegance and nobility were vividly portrayed through her body. She was very slim, but I was certain that she possessed a strong power in her body. All soldiers who could join the elves' army were excellent fighters. If they hadn’t used that very stupid method, I could not have captured so many prisoners at all. Even if I could eliminate them, my army would be greatly weakened.

"You said you would not hurt us, would you let us go?" There was a contemptuous smile in the corner of her mouth.

"Yes. I'll let you go. I don't want to treat you as enemies."

"Well. You want to treat us as friends... yet you do this to entertain your friends!" She gave me a sarcastic smile and signaled the ropes on her hands.

It was my luck that I could capture all the elves and dwarfs' allied forces because they had adopted a very idiotic strategy. They wanted to reinforce the city of Dallas through the tunnel. They forgot that, in the tunnel, hypnotic gas is very difficult to disperse, and immortal creatures don’t need to breathe.

"I'm sorry, but I had no other choice. As long as you promise not to intervene with this war, I will release you all."

"As soon as I get back my ax, I'll cut off your head and feed it to the dogs!" The dwarf looked at me fiercely and said with an uncompromising look, "We will never make peace with the filthy, despicable necromancer. Never!"

"Why let us go?" The fairy approached me. At this time, I noticed the badge on her armor. If I was not mistaken, she would be the commander.

"Because you should not sacrifice your lives in this meaningless war."

"Meaningless war? So why did you attack Dallas?"

"I did it just for revenge."
