Chapter 17 How I became a Necromancer

I wanted to sit up, but now my body can't take this simple action, and I had a sharp cough.

"What are you doing?" After the cough finally calmed down, I saw the little girl wrapping her eyes.

"Nothing..." There was a slight whimper in her voice. "I was just happy. I thought... I thought you were dead..."

"Why are you here?" I asked in a rather weak voice. It’s strange that the little girl should have been right at the foot of the mountain or on her way to the foot of the mountain. How could she be here? And how did she find me? How did she manage to drag me down from a mountain top of this high? Although I was not very fat, it should exceed the weight that a little girl could drag.

"For no reason..." She looked away. "I was just worried. I didn’t know how would Lewis treat you. So I ran after you…Because I had this, I thought maybe I could help." She pulled out a necklace from her own arms. Although it was a very small necklace, I clearly felt the magic attached to the necklace. Judging from the symbol on the necklace, this should be a flying necklace! "My grandfather gave me this... I didn't think you actually knocked him and his army down... you are really the strongest magician I have ever met..."

"Magician..." I suddenly remembered my identity, my eyes...

There was nothing on my face now, and the little girl could clearly see the demon red light from my eyes! Anyone could tell my identify from this evil red light, whether he was a magician or not. So did the little girl!
Whether it is a magician or not, anyone can speculate on my identity from this bizarre and evil red light. Little girl is no exception!

"Are you not afraid of me?" I asked her.

"Afraid?" She was looking at me with a pair of confused big eyes. "Why should I be frightened? Although you look fierce from the outside, but…but…”

"I am also a Necromancer! The same as Lewis!" I said softly.

"But you are a great person! You saved me and defeated Lewis... What does it matter if you are a Necromancer or not? As long as you are a good person, it will be fine... There are good Necromancers and bad Necromancers!”

What an innocent girl! How could there possibly be a "good" Necromancer in this world? Believing this was like believing there were vegetarian tigers in the world! Every Necromancer was full of sins, with the amount of blood on his hands being the only difference!

I sighed softly and turned my face around.

"You can rest assured. I will not say a word to others. This... This is the secret between two of us, ok?" She was looking at me with hopeful eyes!

"I take it as a Yes if you don’t say anything!” said the little girl. I was about to respond by was interrupted by a more intense cough!

"Let's wait. I'm going to find someone to help us! Your injury is so serious that you can’t move anymore. Otherwise it would be dangerous to you! You must wait for my return!” She looked up at me. There was obvious worry on her face.

"Do not worry! I won't die!" I told her. The little girl took out the necklace. I saw her red fingers, and now I discovered that her face and hands were frozen to red. There was a strong wind when you fly in the air, especially at the peak.

The body of the little girl disappeared into my vision. I murmured a few words. The mask and the black glass lens appeared on my hands again! To prevent situations like this, I added magic to these two items so that I could call them back onto my hands whenever I said the few special words.

As I slowly put on my mask and the lens, I saw the mountain that collapsed in our magic fight. I knew there was a little boy’s body buried under the mountain…Lewis was dead now. So he can rest in peace. Though he was only a child, he was really brave…Or rather rash.

A feeling of exhaust struck onto me, I closed my eyes. It was really tiring…It should be all right if I took a little nap here! In fact, I didn’t care if I ever woke up again…

There was the familiar green woods and the house in the middle of the woods…Where is this? How could it be so familiar to me? The stream, the path and shrubs on the side…There was a solitary grave outside the woods… This is…This is…

A figure of a teenager was sitting in the study room, reading a book…The shadow was so familiar…Who is this? The person turned around…It was…It was me!!!

The door opened and there walked in an old man.

"Why don't you go out to play? This is such a nice weather! By the way, there is a bard in the village. Everyone is listening to his songs…”

"No, Master, thank you! I have a more important task! I want to ask, how is this magic used? Can the medication be further improved?"

The old magician looked down and explained my problem to me in details, pointing out the mistakes in my thought!

I put the book back to the original place, then turned to pull out another book from the huge bookshelf. At this time, I heard a sigh from my master! I turned around and saw my master going out. Maybe I heard it wrong! But I didn’t care about the spring, the bard or girls at all. There was a fire flaming in my heart, becoming stronger and stronger as time passed by. There was no room for anything else in my mind!

Is this…the tower of the Sage? The place where I had my qualification test as a magician…The person walking out from the tower with my master, was…me!!

I had been qualified as a magician. There were only few qualified magicians at my age. Even the judges were very surprised by my power and age!

My master was walking to me, giving me his final guidance. He knew that I would no longer stay with him after this test.

"Be careful in the future, don't risk your life..." I listened to him absent-mindedly. For me, the Master's words were just nagging. But to be honest, I only happened to know that he was such a great magician. He was the very few masters recognized by the tower of the Sage! Nonetheless, now he was giving me instructions, being no different from an overly worried old man.

"I know. I will take care of myself! Rest assured, Master! I will come back to visit you when I have time!"

"Remember, you must consider the consequences before acting. There are not many regrets in the world! And if you are sick of the days outside, then come back. My door will always be open for you!"

"Thank you, Master!"

I had suffered enough from the flames in my heart. I can't wait any longer! I spent fifteen years studying magic, and now I should have enough power to fulfill my vow!

The cold rain drops hit on my face. Nevertheless, I could barely feel anything! I had mud on my partially burnt robe. Everyone walking by me would take a second look at me and then pass by me more quickly!

I was defeated!

I can't forget the old man's words when I left. "As far as your age is concerned, you are already very good. But you still need to work hard. For another twenty years, I am afraid I will be unable to fight against you!” But I can’t forget his tone of being a victor. That was the compassion of the strong to the weak. I didn’t need any mercy!

For fifteen years, for fifteen years, I gave up all entertainment and rest. I spent all my time studying magic, except for the time to eat, sleep and visit my mom. I had never rested even for once! Whether it was the cold winter or the hot summer, I never rested for once! I kept reading books, learning magic, reading books, learning magic, reading books and learning magic! I thought I was tough. I thought I had sufficient power to realize my vow. But the reality destroyed me in a rather cruel manner.

No matter how hard I tried, how talented I was, after all, I only had fifteen years of experience in magic. I was only twenty-three. My strength was not strong enough to compete with older magicians with over fifty years of experience. Was there any point in the hard work over the past fifteen years? I could forget what the subordinate said to me when I left “How dare you to challenge the royal magicians with these tricks on your hands?” The despise he had was like a sharp dagger piercing my heart with a sprinkle of salt!

I can't do anything now. I can't do anything! I was just a waste person without power!

I wanted strength, pulling me out of this weak abyss, regardless where it came from!
