Chapter 23 Back alive

"Wake up... wake up..." Different voices rang in my ears. I opened my eyes slowly. The surrounding was getting gradually clearer in front of my eyes.

"Where is this?" I opened my mouth and barely squeezed out few words.

"You are fine..." The voice of the little girl came into my ears. "You are finally fine. It’s all my fault…I was not careful enough. When I found you, you were already frozen…I thought…” There was a little whimper in her voice.

"My Royal Highness, everything is fine now…Please go back to rest. We will take care of Mr. Leiden!” Another voice came over.

“But...”

"The King will blame us if you keep like this! And, Mr. Leiden needs to rest quietly. You will only slow down his recovery!”

I heard the sound of shoes stepping on the floor. It looked like the annoying little girl had gone out!

I could tell I was in a luxurious place from the exquisite carvings on the ceilings! Maybe I was in a palace! How long had I been in a coma? It took about one to two weeks walking from the mountain to the town. I didn’t believe my body could sustain me for more than one week! I must be in a luxury residence of a nobleman out of the town…

The feeling of exhaustion came up to me again, mixed with the pain from the body. This feeling had turned into an irresistible force. I could barely keep my eyes open!

"It's really amazing... This person actually defeated that Lewis... It's unbelievable! He is still so young, but with such a powerful force!"

"Yeah... If I didn't see the body of Lewis, I wouldn't believe it at all! Such a young and handsome magician! Oh, even I am fascinated by him!"

"You have a husband... Hehe, now you probably regret getting married too early!"

"Haha... can't say this. Though you are not married, will any man be interested in you? Don’t be smug!”

My ears were full of female discussions like these. It seemed that the female ambassadors were discussing about me. But I didn’t care about this at all. I slowly sunk into sleep!

I had been lying in this room for four days. It was not until the fifth day that I was able to move around! I had a serious injury. Even with seven therapy magic being applied to me every day, I wasn’t able to move until the fifth day! It was hilarious. When the whole country was in a critical condition in which even the rookie magicians needed to go to the battlefield, the nobles still had high level magicians around them to treat them.

This was one of the satellite towns outside Martín, and it was the closest town to the mountain! In order to guard against Lewis' attack, it had built a complete fast messaging system with fast horses and bonfires. This was why the little girl was able to get assistance in time. I was really lucky to survive under this condition...But, Lewis was also very lucky...

People here were very kind to me. The female ambassadors always squinted at me. I was the hero in their eyes. Moreover, there must be fortune awaiting me. But, we would not stay here for long. With my health gradually recovered, the princess and I were planning to return to the city. I had heard that the King had prepared a grand ceremony for me! For this country, this was indeed worth celebrating. The evil Necromancer who had caused a great threat to the country died and was defeated a hero magician from the outside. For them, this was enough - no one knew what happened in the last fight! Except for the little girl, no one knew my Necromancer identity!

The grand ceremony of entering the city was over. It was really tiring! I kept waving to the people. Flowers and enthusiasm from citizens were way beyond expectation—I really didn’t know how they would react if they knew I was a Necromancer! I thought about this question with sarcasm!

The king was making an eloquent speech in the center of the city square. I could know what the theme of the speech was with my toes. It was nothing more than the evil would eventually extinct and the justice would be the final winner! I was sitting on the handrail of the palace corridor. I could only feel tiredness at the moment, a tiredness in both my body and mid!

"Are you feeling sick?" I didn't know when the little girl came to my side. She was looking at me, with a deep concern!

"Don’t bother me!" I replied irritably. I only came to realize the identity of the little girl and where we were at after I finished my sentence. “No…I mean, I feel good, my Royal Highness!” I looked around nervously. Fortunately, there were no other people around!

Why was I angry at a little girl? She had nothing wrong. She pulled me down from the freezing snow mountain top. She saved me… But she didn’t know that sometimes living in the world was a burden to some people. If I died with Lewis on the snow mountain…

My thought was interrupted by the sound of iron boots. A figure in armor came close to me. I recognized him. It was Ying Luo!

"My Royal Highness, the maids are looking for you! Please go back! You must be tired after the trip. Please take a good rest first!" Ying Luo bowed down, with his eyes looking at the little girl! The strict look from him was not like the look a subordinate gave to a princess, but like a mandatory order.

"But... well..." The little girl didn’t resist much. She turned around and walked away.

"Mr. Leiden!" After confirming that the little girl had gone far, he turned to me. "I have one thing to discuss with you!"

"Speak!" I replied faintly. I already had some clues regarding what he wanted to say.

"The King sent me here, to talk about the promise!” Ying Luo stunned and firmed his tone. “You know the King only has one daughter left. She is the only legal successor of the crown!”

I didn't respond, quietly listening to Ying Luo.

"But there was no precedent for a woman to succeed the crown in our Kingdom. The King has noticed this. So the husband of our Royal Highness will become the next King! The King of Martin! And the Royal Highness will become the Queen!”

I turned around to look at Ying Luo. He had a serious facial expression. But from deep in his eyes, I saw ambition and desire were firing up! This man was different from Lewis. The flame in Lewis’ eyes was mixed with uncovered madness. But Ying Luo suppressed his desire deep in his heart!

I turned my head back again.

"You are a very powerful magician. This is in no doubt. You are the best candidate for the next court magician of the Martin palace—of course. This will be done according to your own wishes. But if you are willing to, you definitely have the position—but, it was not clear if you are a good candidate to be the next King…”

"But the King announced publicly that he would marry his princess to the person who defeated Lewis. The King’s words must be honored!” I interrupted him. “So, you want me to give up this right voluntarily! ”

I said in a cold tone! What did the King’s words mean to me? A Necromancer wanted to become the King of a country? A court magician? I wouldn’t even stay in this country for long. Once my body recovered, I would continue my journey, a journey with no goal!

"...Please rest assured, Mr. Leiden. The King just wanted to some more time to know about you, as long as…”

“I know. And I agree to you!”

“…” He stumbled a bit. Maybe he didn’t expect this to be so easy!

"I agree. I will give up this right voluntarily! I know I am not a suitable candidate to be a King. For better of the country, I agree to give up this right!” I stood up and said this to Ying Luo’s face. His face turned into ecstasy in just a flash, but it disappeared right away.

"Thank you, Mr. Leiden, I am going to return to the King now!" He bowed to me and left. I sat down and closed my eyes! I was tired, really tired!

Why did I travel around? Why did I wander around the continent? Just to realize my past dream? This was the best state of life I had ever imagined. Being a magician who had travelled around the whole continent. What an attractive idea! Like a kite freely flying in the sky, without bringing away any clouds…After I became older, I could tell all kinds of anecdotes that I saw in my journey to kids around me…How fascinating it was. But why I can’t feel any real happiness now…

No, I am very happy now, with no constraints. It was only because I had always been living in happiness so I could feel this happy. Yes. It must be because of this! The past had left me. Now, I was a happy bird with no constraints!
