Chapter 24 The court ball

"You really don't want to stay?" The little girl asked me. She kept bothering me every day, requesting me to teach her magic…I really didn’t know what she was thinking about. She wanted to learn magic from a Necromancer!

"Yes! I will leave once I recover!" I replied while checking the wound on my right hand. This was my most serious injury. Almost a whole flesh of muscle had fallen off my arm! Even with the help of therapy magic, there was not much recovered yet. It looked like the wound would not recover in a short time! But this wound was not the most annoying. Due to the limited power of the protective magic, the impact of the strong attacking spell could not be removed completely. It would be a while before the damage of the many attacks to be fully released on my body. In the next few months, it was impossible for my wound to recover!

"Why don't you stay here? Isn't it good here? Although you are a Necromancer, but..." She deliberately lowered her voice and said to me.

"Are you threatening me?" I looked up into her eyes. But immediately I realized that I was too sensitive. She didn’t mean anything by what she said just now. After all, she was just a little girl—a well-developed little girl.

The little girl looked at me with a bit puzzle, she didn’t know what she said wrong! I didn’t know why but I suddenly recalled what happened in the cave when I looked at her face! I had a blush on my face and quickly turned my head around!

"Don't bother me anymore. I’ve told you. I will not teach you magic…And. I am not the right master for you!” “But you have already taken my tuition…” Her tone suddenly changed, into an exciting tone. It seemed that she recalled something. “Tuition? ”

"Yeah! You know. When I pulled you off the snow, I flipped over your pocket...Not the one on your clothes...The pocket that you had inside your clothes...The clothes were broken. Something has fallen out..."

"Ah..." Suddenly, I understood what the little girl saw. The sapphire! I turned around my head again and saw her smile as well as her little sly expression. Her expression clearly told me that she already knew that I was actually a liar!

I looked at her face. The smile on her face was getting bigger... I suddenly wanted to find a hole to hide into it!

Stole a little girl’s stuff! A magician actually stole a little girl’s stuff…I felt that one day people would be pointing at me when I was walking on the street and then they would tell other people “Look. This is the famous liar magician, who did not even let go of a ten years old little girl…”

Cheat a little girl's stuff! A magician actually scams a little girl's stuff... I think that one day I walked on the road and then someone pointed at my body, then said to others, "Look, that is the famous liar mage, even ten years old. The little girl who never let go..."

The thick smile forced me to step back. But her face moved forward whenever I leaned back. I was too weak to push her away! I thought the sapphire had been lost in snow in the battle. But now I knew where it went!

"As long as you teach me magic, I won't say anything... I won’t say a word. I really won’t say anything..."

"Good... well...But I can only teach you something basic...As if I am your elementary magic teach…” I finally compromised to her. I didn’t want to lose my reputation! I really regret that I’d stolen it.

"Great!" The little girl jumped up. "Deal! Don’t regret!"

"I won’t regret..."

With footsteps coming over, Someone was walking to my room!

"Dad!" Along with the little girl’s voice, I saw the King walking in from outside, followed by a few close subordinates.

"How come are you here? How can you always disturb Mr. Leiden’s rest? Come over. I have something to tell you!"

"Dad! He has agreed to teach me magic! Really!"

"Teach you magic?" I noticed that the king's brow wrinkled, but immediately it stretched out. "How can you ask for such a rude request? Mr. Leiden hasn’t recovered yet. Don’t always bother him! Come over here!”

The little girl was a bit unwilling. After she walked to him, the King turned back to look at me “Mr. Leiden, there is a court ball tonight. I hope you can join us. I have something important to announce!”

Something important? Was it because he was afraid I would regret giving up my right to marry the princess so he wanted to announce it in public? I nodded. The King left with the little girl!

The annoying little girl finally left. I could now check my injuries. My physical condition was all right. I was sure it would only take another 3-4 months for me to recover if there wouldn’t be any intense activities or large scale magic launching for me. Even if I wanted to launch high-level magic, my body was not strong enough for that—But there shouldn’t be any situation that required me to launch high-level magic!

I tied the couple of the most serious wounds on my body with a bandage and then sat down! A burst of emptiness suddenly struck on me…It was weird. When the little girl was around me, I felt she was annoying. But when she left, I started to feel this emptiness! I looked around the surroundings with a bit of loss, thinking this way!

The time passed quickly. The night soon arrived, at which the court ball started. The ball was to celebrate the demise of the Necromancer who had threatened the Kingdom. Almost all the nobles were here. There was another group of people attending the ball. They were the reinforcement that the King requested from other countries around…There were about 40 of them! They arrived at the ball in time, just in time for this ball!

Although I was supposed to be the major role of this ball. But since most people knew I was not recovered, I didn’t need to dance—this was good for me. On one hand, it was because of my injury. On the other hand, I didn’t know how to dance either! I stayed in a corner next to the dance floor, drinking a cup of wine alone, while watching the crowd spinning on the dance floor. In the distance, there were several magicians discussing about me. But I didn’t care!

"So this is dance ball?" To be honest, it was my first time to participating in such a luxurious ball. Those balls I previously joined were only bonfire parties during the autumn harvest, which were completely different from this court ball. But I felt that country parties were better…This was not the place for me…

The pairs of men and women were spinning with music on the dance floor. They were all so elegant. But I found myself not interested in them at all! Lot of noble ladies were looking at me with signals, but I was not interested at all!

This was not the place for me! Here, I was a different species!

"It turns out that you are here! My master!" A pretty voice rang around me. I turned around and saw the little girl standing behind me! No, she was not a little girl. At that moment, I realized calling her little girl was inappropriate…very inappropriate!

She was wearing a gorgeous dress. The elegant fabric and the nice design accentuated her noble elegance and liveliness. Her hair was delicately separated from the forehead, covering part of her childish face. Right now, it was a beautiful lady, not a little girl, in front of me! I couldn't believe that the annoying little girl could be so attractive when dressed up (the person who dressed her up was indeed capable).
It was strange. Thinking carefully, she was only fourteen or fifteen years old. Strictly speaking, she was no longer a child. Why did I always treat her as a kid? Thinking of this, it was probably because her first impression to me was too strong. When she kept asking me to teach her magic, I felt she was too naïve…like a little kid!

"Master? When did I become your master?" I finally realized her words, she was calling me master…

"Didn’t you agree to teach me magic? Of course I should call you my master…Isn’t it? ”

Master? It sounded really weird. Even Brian had never called me master. He had been calling me Mr. Leiden…I felt bitter whenever I thought of the little boy. But Brian was dead.

"Don't call me Master! Call me Leiden..." Then I said in a low voice that almost could only be heard by myself, “Master! I don’t deserve this title!”

"You don't like me calling you master? Well, then... Leiden... Sir, why don't you dance? Everyone is dancing!"

"I don’t know how to dance!" I answered her with a bit of disappointment. But the title of “master” was repeating in my mind over and over again. When I thought of this word, there was always a face appearing in my mind…

"Let me teach you!" She grabbed my hand and pulled me back from my absent-mindedness. “Let me teach you! Come with me!”

"My Royal Highness!" A voice rang around us. There came Ying Luo who was wearing a light military uniform. “What’s wrong?” The little girl turned to look at the soldier.

“May I ask you to dance?” He looked at the little girl and sent me a meaningful look.

"I am sorry, but Mr. Leiden has invited me first!" She ignored Ying Luo and dragged me to the center of the dance floor!
