Chapter 29 Chapter 29

I wanted to sit up, but now my body couldn't support me to do this simple action. I was tormented by a racking cough. After the cough finally calmed down, I saw that the little girl was trying to wipe her eyes.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Nothing, I'm just very happy. I thought you were dead," she replied as she sobbed.

"Why are you here?" I asked in a weak voice. It was so strange. The little girl should be at the foot of the mountain or on the way to the foot of the mountain right now. How could she be here? And how did she find me? How could such a little girl drag me down from such a high mountain? Although I was not very fat, I should’ve exceeded the weight limit that the small girl could move.

"No reason." She looked away and continued, "I was just worried. I didn't know what Lewis would do to you, so I came with you. I have this, so I think maybe I can help you." As she spoke, she took out a necklace from her sleeve. Although it was a very small necklace, I clearly felt the magic attached to it. Judging from the symbols on the necklace, it should be the Flying Necklace. "This is something my grandfather gave me. I didn't expect you to bring him and his army down. You are the most powerful magician I have ever seen."

"Magician?" I suddenly thought of my identity. There was nothing on my face now, and the little girl must be able to clearly see the strange red light in my eyes. No matter a magician or not, anyone could infer my identity from this strange and evil red light. She was no exception.

"Are you not afraid of me?" I asked her.

She looked at me doubtfully with a pair of big eyes. "Why should I be afraid? I know you're not a bad person, even if you look fierce."

"Listen! I'm also a necromancer, like Lewis," I said softly.

"But you are very kind. You saved me and beat Lewis. What does it matter if you are a necromancer? There are kindhearted necromancers in the world, and I know you are one of them."

What an innocent girl! How could there be a kindhearted necromancer in this world? Just like there was no vegetarian tiger in the world, every necromancer was an embodiment of sin. The only difference between them was the amount of blood on their hands.

I sighed and turned my face away.

"Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. I'll keep this as our secret, all right?" She looked at me with hopeful eyes.

"If you don't answer me, I'll take it for granted," she continued to say.

I was trying to answer, but a more racking cough interrupted me.

"Wait a minute, I'll find someone to help you. You have a bad injury. You can't move any more, or you may be in danger of life. You must wait for me to come back." She looked at me. I could feel that she was worried.

"Don't worry! I shall not die." I told that to her.

She took out her necklace, and I saw her red fingers. At this moment, I noticed that her face and hands were red and frozen. While flying in the air, the wind was very strong, especially on this peak.

After the little girl disappeared from my vision, I read a mantra, and then the mask and black glass chip immediately appeared in my hand. In order to avoid accidents, I added magic to these two things, so they would come back to me only by reading special mantra.

As I slowly put on the mask and chip, I saw the mountain which collapsed in the magic wars. I knew that there was a young man's body buried under the mountain. Lewis was dead, so he could rest in peace. Although he was only a child, he was really brave and desperate.

I was attacked by fatigue. I was really tired, and my eyes closed slowly. There should be no problem sleeping here for a while. In fact, it didn't matter if I couldn't wake up.

The familiar green forest and the house in the middle of the green forest appeared before my eyes. "Where is this? Why does this feel so familiar? I think I have seen everything here, including the stream, the path, the shrubs on both sides, and the lonely grave outside this forest. Please, tell me. Where is this?" I kept asking myself.

A young figure was sitting at the bookcase of the study looking at a book. That figure was so familiar. I didn't know who it was. Then the man who was reading a book turned around inadvertently. "Hell, no! That's me!" I exclaimed.

The door of the room opened and an old man came in.

"Why don't you go out and play? Such fine weather is very rare. By the way, a minstrel has just come to the village, and everyone is there to enjoy the music."

"No, thank you! Teacher, I have a more urgent task. I want to ask you how this magic is used. Can the collocation of herbs be improved?"

The old magician bowed his head, explained the problems to me in detail, and showed me the mistakes in my thinking.

I put the book back to its original place, then turned around and took out another book on the huge bookshelf. At this time, I seemed to hear his sigh in my ear. I turned around and saw him go out. Maybe I heard mistakenly. Whether it was the scenery in spring, the poems recited by the traveling poets, or even the invitation of girls, I didn't care about any of this. The flame in my heart was still burning, and with the passage of time, it became more and more exuberant. My heart already could not contain other things.

Here was The Tower of the Wise. The place where I accepted the magician's qualification. It was me who was walking with the teacher from the tower.

I had received the qualification of a magician. I was already a qualified magician. At my age, there were few achievements like this. Even the judges were surprised at my actual strength.

The teacher was walking beside me, giving me the last instruction. He knew that I would not stay beside him.

"Be careful in the future. Don't do anything too risky." I listened to him while I was absent-minded. To me, the teacher's words were actually nagging. However, to be honest, I didn't know that the teacher was such a famous magician until now. He was one of the powerful magicians recognized by the member of the Tower of Wise, but what he taught me now was no different from that of an old man who worried too much.

"I see. I'll take care of myself. Don't worry about me, teacher. I'll come back to see you often."

"Remember, before you do anything, you must think about the consequences. There is no medicine for regret in this world. And if you're tired of the outside world, just come back and the door to my house will always be open for you."

"Thank you, teacher!"

I had been suffering from the flame. I couldn't wait any longer. I spent fifteen years studying magic skills. Now, I should have had enough strength to fulfill my vow.

Cold rain pelted my face and body, but I couldn't feel it. Some of my burnt clothes were covered with mud. Everyone passing by me glanced at me a few more times, and then sped up to stay away from me. I was defeated.

"You are very good in terms of your age, but you still need to work hard. I'm afraid I won't be your match in another twenty years." I couldn't forget the old man's words when he left, but what was more unforgettable to me was that he spoke in the tone of the winner. It was the pity of the strong for the weak. I didn't need pity.

In all my fifteen years, I abandoned all entertainment and rest. Except for eating, sleeping, and visiting my mother, I used all my time to learn magic. I hadn't been lazy for a moment. No matter if it was winter when my feet were cold and numb or summer when cicadas were too hot to cry, I had never been lazy. The only thing I did was keep reading and learn magic. I thought I was strong enough to fulfill my vow, but the reality shattered me mercilessly.

No matter how hard I tried and how talented I was, after all, I had only learned magic skills for fifteen years. After all, I was only twenty-three years old. My strength couldn't compete with those old magicians who were seventy and eighty years old. Was there no point in these fifteen years' efforts? I couldn't forget the words of the retinue when he left: "How dare such a low-level magician declare war on the court magician?" Even a retinue was so contemptuous. It was just like a bayonet pierced my heart, and then poured salt on the wound.

Now I couldn't do anything. I was just trash with no power.

I needed strength to pull me out of this weak abyss, no matter what kind of strength.
