The next day when I went down, I happened to meet Ginger by the stairs, she was instructing something on the maid.
She was wearing her hotel uniform. An all red two-piece suit. She looked chic and professional with it.
"Going out now? Want to share a ride?" I offered since we're both going to work. Both parents had gone already.
She reaches on the handle of her luggage before turning her head.
"Uncle already made arrangements for me, I'm going first." She said turning her heels on me.
"Okay, take care then." I put on an amiable face when I spoke.
The moment she went out of sight, I shrugged. If she rejected me then so be it. I won't get offended. It was only a lip service.
The maid happened to see what I did, rather than shying away, I smiled at her meaningfully.
Her face showed slight confusion but she calmed herself down before asking if I needed anything to which I said no. She went away right after.
So I returned to work this day. As it was summer the air con temperature had been set to a little lower than usual.
My day did not start the greatest but I don't want to ruin my mood so I went inside with a clear mind. I put on my best effort to show a friendly side to all I came across the entrance. Whether it's by heart or not, they greeted me in return. Some even made jokes with me.
We were all heading our way to the employee-exclusive elevators. I was beginning to 'feel' this day when the machine in front failed to read my i.d. We have these automatic sliding turnstiles just two feet in front of the elevators and unfortunately, it started to act up when it was my turn.
The person who was behind me already went to use the one on the opposite sides. Some eyes had been stuck with me so I was feeling a little embarrassed. I put my i.d on the scanner again and again but still, it's not working.
The security helped me afterward. They deactivated the machine and manually opened the flap.
We had another round of brainstorming for the final output. A lot of proposals were told, ideas explained and rejections and estimations.
During the lunch break, I wanted to eat creamy mushroom pasta but the last portion went to the employee before me.
When I went for a tea break, I did not think I was clumsy to accidentally spill some hot water on me. It wasn't much but today I wore a white inner shirt. I went to check if by chance I burnt myself and thank goodness, it was only some redness. It will go away by time.
As I was already in the bathroom, I decided to relieve myself and went inside one of the stalls. The group who came inside must have thought no one is there beside them as they gossiped freely.
"I say, the creative chief is not reliable."
"She's really not, imagine someone who doesn't know how to use the turnstile, she got the security guy to open it manually."
<That was because of the machine itself! I used it without problem before!>
"For real?! Is she an idiot or only acting like one?"
<I am not!>
"An act, she wanted attention. You know, her condition calls for it. I'm sure even her position is achieved by her whining to her family."

"Yeah like, "Dad, this.." "Dad, that.." "They laughed at me so fire them"

They abruptly stopped their tales and turned their heads to find me going in front of the sink to wash my hands. It just happened to be beside the girl laughing.
As they've frozen on spot, I casually dried my hands and looked at them through the mirror.
"Oh~ hello~!" I said almost as if recognizing them.
"H-hi!" They said in sync.
"Uh, Flor, did you not say you need to turn in your report?" one quickly thought of an excuse, her hand pinching the one named Flor.
"Oh, me too!" "I'm the same!" the other two said with a beat.
Once they agreed that they were all submitting their reports, they went out in hasty. They were shocked silly to see me inside. I even heard them blame each other on their way out.
"Why did you not check if someone's there?"
"Me? Aren't you the one who told us that people hardly goes there by this time of the day?"
Sigh. I hope your petty friendship lasts.
Those ladies were in fact not from our team. They belonged to another department. They only might have heard some hearsay's about me then made their own assumptions. But that does not mean they could just slander me.
I honestly wish they could see how hard I am working. I don't know about the past 'IRIS' but I'm doing my best to earn a living. I dare say that I'm putting twice the effort. Like for real, I am also just an employee.
And have they been in my situation?
I returned to my office and resumed my work. I was organizing some files and doing detailed weekly summaries when my monitor blacked out. I called on the IT team and they came to fix it but of course, I wasn't able to save what I've done.
How unlucky.
Somehow, this day did not turn out right. From morning till now, it's disaster.
Had Ginger cursed me?
No, I should say that it all started when I woke up in this body.

My phone vibrated. I always put it in silent mode whenever I'm inside the company.
I took it and saw it was Luke calling.
How troublesome.
"Iris." He greeted.
"Brother Luke," I spoke in a pleased tone. I had to.
"Meet me tomorrow night?" He outright invited me.
"Sure, who's coming with us?" I asked just in case, it's better to be prepared.
"Me and you? Anyone, you want to invite?"He said joyfully.
None. "So where will we meet?" I asked him conveniently.
"Just message me what time you are getting off work and I'll come get you."He said so naturally.
"Okay, so see you tomorrow?" I pretended to ask.
"Hey, don't be playful. You've already agreed and that's it." From the other side of the phone, he reprimanded.
"Alright, see you tomorrow," I stated clearly.
He chuckled as he said, "See you."
We hung up after saying goodnight to each other.
