It all goes to say that I won the last piece. Those celebrities that came as guests already stopped bidding midway and even those rich yet smaller companies than ours gave way. Lily looked so happy and proud when she got the three items but now she's looking a little regretful. As per rule, she wasn't allowed to bid on the last item.

Mother was so proud at me and father raised his wine glass in celebration. When the morning news comes I will be the center of praises.

All were invited for a dinner buffet after the showcase. Unfortunately the media weren't permitted to enter the dining hall prepared for the guests so they could only station outside the door, hoping to have audio presentations.

"Riri! Good job!" Lily approached me as I was sampling on the desserts. She was talking about the money I donated. She got a small smile plastered on her pretty face yet her eyes showed nothing.

I can only repeat after her and say, "You too."

"Thank you for supporting us. You'll be blessed more, I'm sure."

"Thank you."

Cindy and Jade Tian also came to greet.

"No, I should say that Aunt. Thanks to you, many shall receive help." I told Cindy. The money collected from the auction will help build small houses for the poor with a portion of it reserved for their medical checkups.

"No child, it was because of you that it became successful. Just wait for the reports tomorrow and you'll see, right Jade?" She nudged on her sister.

"Of course, because ladies like this two exist" she gestured at me and Lily, "that the charity is successful."

"If it's for charity then I'll give any amount needed."Lily proudly told them.

"Yes, that kind of amount is nothing compared to the goodwill it will be used on." I seconded. Today I was the epitome of spendthrift rich young lady.

It was totally harmless sentence but if one were to think further then they could only guess.

Lily's proud smile stiffened.

"That is true, what you gave definitely shan't go to waste. You're a wonderful child." Aunt Cindy continued to sung praises as Jade Tian held on to her hand.

"As you've said, sister." She agreed then look at us as she continued, "We'll see you around. We need to entertain some more guests so we'll leave now." She politely withdrew gently pulling her sister.

"We'll talk more later. See you both around." Cindy said as she was led to another group of ladies.

The moment they went away, the staff of the event came to us with boxes where the jewelries were stored. They came to have us inspect our items and ask where to send them.

Now that I look at it, our necklace was almost the same. Both have yellowish diamond pendants with small white diamonds on string. Hers was simple in design and mine was classic looking and the cut was bigger than hers.

"Wow! It's like a token of our friendship!" I said admiringly.

"Ah yes, but even without it we're still best friends!" Lily said as she closed her box.

"Of course, we're so alike! I'd say we've got the same taste. I really love that brooch and even that ring! Too bad that we both lost the chandelier earrings." I told her.

Her throat seemed dry as she swallowed twice before speaking. "I know." She gestured at the staff, "Send them to this address," She pulled out a card from her purse, "Tell them to keep it inside my room; I'll be the one to arrange them."

"Yes mam, how about this young lady?" the staff turned to me.

"Give it to my mother, Madam Dahlia of House Lin." I simply answered.

"Okay mam, excuse us then." They said then turned to leave. It wasn't long before a series of admiration we're heard from my mother's side.

"My, my, how thoughtful of your child."

"She's so kind. Not only she donated her money but also gave you the jewelry."

"She learnt well from her parents, I wish my child was the same."

Came the boot licking of other madams. In truth, that money was my parents so it was only right for me to give the jewelry to mother. But of course, mother was still over the moon with their half hearted adoration. What I did just increased her face value.

"Oh, I need to take this call." She did not even wait for me to say anything as Lily hastily left my side.

Her phone did not even lit up and in her hurry she held it upside down. She held on to her clutch too tight as veins were visible on her hand.

A few other guests came up to fawn over me after she left. I politely exchanged praises with them as my eyes continued to trail her silhouette. She was carefully scanning her surroundings then went past a crowded area. A pair of beautiful hands held her as they turned to a corner. I did not see the face but I know that pixie hair.

"Please excuse me." I said to the people surrounding me as a light flashed through my eyes.

I subtly followed them as they went to the private lounge at the back. There were three lounges divided by wooden screens.

"Don't let others come in here. Keep a look out." I heard Jade telling the staff while I went inside the next lounge.

As soon as the staff went to see the surrounding room, I put a finger over my mouth and pulled a cheque to give him. He first checked the amount before revealing a smile then pulled over the screen in front to close the space and turn off the lights.

I sat on the chair comfortably as I listen without permission.

"Sit and drink. Keep a good look at your face hun."

"Why? Why is this happening Aunt? I was so sure I'd win this one yet.."

"That's why I've told you to keep an eye on the things she wants and bid higher yet you went for those items that aren't that much worth. Didn't I tell you that the last item was the best one we created? The weights of those diamonds were one of a kind. I even suggested to Cindy to have the media come so you'll get that recognition."

"But I saw how her eyes glimmered when those jewelries were shown. I've known her since 7th grade and I was sure she wanted those things badly. Aunt, you saw it too. She bid first on those items so I went ahead and offered more! Even the media complimented me.. "

"Shush, keep your voice down and relax. Let's think things through."

"How can I? I've auctioned an eighth of my savings to get that recognition and yet she tripled that worth of money without blinking; now she's got all the praise! If I came home right now then I'll get compared to her again. At home or school, it's all the same. She's already deaf and blind. What right does she have to put me through this humiliation?!"

"That's right. That is why I don't like her for Luke. You know how brother adores his sons, they deserve a better half and you're just the perfect girl. Pacify your anger. Don't worry, you always have my back so cheer up and chin up."

"Thank you so much Aunt. I only have you and Brother Luke. Aunt, promise me you'll help me with him. He's the only one who's been kind to me and never compared me."

"I know, I know. Now don't frown. Then you'll help me too. Tonight I booked on a room. You go make an excuse and accompany sister. I need at least two hours."

"Sure thing Aunt."
