Later that night when I arrived home I met my parents sitting in the living room. It's been long since I met dad at home since he was always out and it was my first time meeting mother again after we talked.

"Mom, Dad" I went in and kissed both of them.

After kissing dad he asked, "May I know where did my baby go?"

"I went out with a friend," I said. "Do you remember Heather? I met her brother last summer and we became friends." I added as I realize what their eyes were asking.

"And how old is the guy, darling?" Mother began her police mode which I cut instantly.

"No need to fret. He is nothing but a child. He's 16 years old and we're equals. We have a shared goodwill and view each other as siblings. Nothing more, mom."

"How about the guy who sent you home last week?" she asked again.

I look around at once and saw a few maids hanging their heads down. They must have passed the news on mother when they had a chance.

"Liam saw me walking around and sent me home. His car was broken that day so he rented one conveniently to send his girlfriend to work when he saw me on his way back."

"And why did you go out again after sending you home?"

Oh no, I need to end this.

I pondered what the best way to shut her up was. "Luke wanted to hang out that day and I said 'ok'. He said he'll take at least half an hour to finish his class and I offered to meet him outside their campus."

As expected, she softened when she heard my half-baked reasons.

"I see. Then did you enjoy your time?"

I nodded. Of course, I enjoyed it. I met my comrade Linden that day. We were shameless but we don't care. After months of being in this body, I finally found friends.

I did not join my parents in eating dinner since I already ate outside. These days I don't even want to look at the wooden box. It does not help me in any way. It is simply a wooden empty box good for decoration.

I went to sleep after taking a hot bath. The days are getting colder now as we approach the winter season.

I reluctantly got up and prepared for work after my alarm rang the second time. It was a pleasant surprise to see my parents especially my father waiting for me to eat breakfast. We ate as we chat and I can't help but think of my real parents. Hopefully, my father had stabilized.

I went to work in a better mood and started my day brighter. We started brainstorming for our next project and made ourselves the timeline we needed to adhere in order to finish it within the deadline. In between break, I keep in touch with Heather, Linden, and Aster.

Heather had been intercepting chances for his father to introduce his soon-to-be wife to their grandparents. Her maternal grandparents had already started taking bits of their investments out of her father's business.

Linden went to audition early morning. He said the movie was based on a martial artist expert thrown into apocalypse web novel and he thinks it suits him. After four hours, he sent a message that he failed but he still has a series he'd like to try this afternoon.

Aster was sending me messages while he was at school. He may look like someone who wants to cut classes but he always stays though there's no guarantee he listens to the lectures.

During my tea break, he shared a video of a man doing some kind of treasure hunting. He said it's what's on the trend now, the mystery box unwrap/unlocking storage room. As to why it had been going viral was because the man only paid a few amounts on the auction but when he searched the storage room, he got a box of gold pieces of jewelry, vintage leather bags, and signature shoes. It tempted all the viewers to try their luck too. Well, with all the unemployment rate right now, that make sense. Easy money is always loved. One way or another we are bound by our materialistic greed.

I should have been entertained with all the suspense if only I wasn't reminded of an incident before. I was 28 that time and one of my friends contacted and invited me to her wedding. She was working abroad and so does her groom so naturally, they set up their marriage there. I was granted five days vacation and made a trip with Saffron. When we landed, I had waited and wasted 3 hours but my luggage was nowhere. We reported it to the employees and was told that they'd contact me back once found. Fortunately, Saffron had extra dresses because, ahem, women are always prepared. My vacation had passed and my luggage was still lost then one day when I was watching from one viewing platform, one guy was streaming his activity. He put on a title 'paid xx to buy a lost luggage' so I was interested. I had watched only the first 2 minutes before noticing that my bag was one of them. The guy was talking and laughing with whatever he finds inside. He pulled out even my underwear. I was so irritated that I wanted to submit a complaint.

Why would the airlines do that when I practically filed for missing luggage? Is it because Saffron had argued with the staff that they chose to ignore me?

Bzz

Aster then sent again another one. It originated in one of the Asian counties with idol singers dancing to a cheerful song. The steps were like a cat with paws down and you need to sway your hips along with the beat. It looks childish and cute. If only they were wearing enough fabric to cover their butt cheeks then it's all good.

"You do it too" I sent him.

"Nah, a girl should do it."

"It's okay even for a guy." I insisted. Because he's still young, together with his dimples it will look cute.

"No way, but Mimosa did it. You want the link?"

"No, thanks." Why should I want hers? I'm not a fan.

After sending my reply, Aster sent me a link. It was entitled 'age is but a number'. It started with the voice of a man asking his father "How old do you think you are?" The old man gave his age but the son said no, it's higher. "Higher?" repeated the old man and his son said yes so he guessed again until he reached 98. Upon hearing the number, the old man shouted in surprise. He can't believe he is already that old. The way he speaks and the way he reacted is simply irresistible.

"That's your future?" I asked Aster.

"No way. That's yours. I think you're halfway there?" he replied with an emoticon.

I felt triggered. It's good that he is not beside me otherwise I may have slapped his face. I can't even retort as he already sent his message.

"Sis, I gotta go."

"Okay."

After exchanging messages with Aster, Linden sent me his result. Sadly, he missed the chance to become the male lead but he gained something from it. He was asked to become the best friend of the lead and act as a sidekick. A major breakthrough from all the minor characters he had before as his role has at least 4-5 sentences per episode.

I went home and felt grateful to have known them in my time here. Since I don't have that dream anymore, I fell asleep rather quickly. When I woke up I have a splitting headache and at that moment my phone kept ringing. I was troubled but seeing it was Heather, I answered.

"Hel-"

"Iris, I'm sorry but have you seen Aster?" she butted in.

"No, why?"

"H- he's gone. I can't reach him."

'But he'd only climbed to become my friend these past few days, what happened?'
