With her words, I completely forgot that I was suffering from a terrible headache a while ago.

"What do you mean gone?" I asked her on the phone as I stand up and readied myself.

"I told him to meet me before going to school but it's already been an hour since I sent him a message and he hasn't replied yet. And like I said, I can't reach him. He is not answering." She tried to explain. Ever since packing their bags and leaving home, until now both of them had been living with their grandparents.

It's only been an hour but she was this worried. You really need to praise her being the older sister.

"Maybe he just forgot?" I told her. It's only one hour passed.

"No, no. That can't be. He always sticks to his promises ever since Mom's gone." She told me.

'But even police won't entertain us since there are no 24 hours yet.' I thought to myself.

"Have you asked your grandparents?"

"Yes. They said he went his way to meet me. But he's not here Iris."

"Where are you? I'll go there right after I send notice of my absence at work." After all, I'm supposed to be going to work any time now. She told me the place and added, "I really had a bad premonition Iris. I hope it's just me."

"It's just you." I tried to assure her but even I do not believe myself.

During my younger years when my father was sent to apprehend drug traffickers as a police officer. I was young then so I never really cared about his profession, all I know was that he is there to protect us. Mother suddenly felt a slight dizziness followed by her heart beating fast. We both thought she was having heart problems so we got ready to head out. Minutes later the chief officer of dad called and told us that he was shot. We rushed to the hospital. He was shot twice on his leg with several knife cuts on his body but thankfully it wasn't severe. He resumed work after a month of healing.

I went to the given place and saw Heather bawling her eyes in the corner. A few people would occasionally glance at her and shake their heads. They probably assumed she's sick in the head or got dumped. I walked in closer and asked what happened.

"Aster, he- he-, wah!" She sticks her body close and cried even harder. I did not even get to hear her reply as she keeps sobbing.

I patted her back and waited for her to calm down but it seemed she won't go off any time soon. I stood there quietly and supported her. I tried soothing her a bit more while also giving the question 'what happened?'.

"Aster was..*sniff*.. in an accident. *sniff* They just called *sniff* me Iris. He's at the hospital.*sniff*

I was frozen when I heard her. "Come again?"

Heather tried her best not to bawl and give an answer straight. She had a florid face and she can't help but let out a snot because of how hard she's crying. Visually, it wasn't the best sight but who here cries hard and still look like a goddess?

"Car accident. On critical condition." She said while looking at me with her tear filled eyes. That instant, I grabbed her hand and hailed a taxi.

'If they had called her then why stand there and cry? She should have been flying over the second she heard the name of the hospital.'

"Which Hospital?" I turned to her.

"Hopewell Hospital." She said while tightly holding on to me.

When we arrived at the place, a nurse kindly guided us in the waiting area as the patient is currently in the operating room. Police were also there waiting as they carefully introduced themselves and stated their business.

"We estimated that the accident happened between five and six in the morning. Someone reported it and called us. The driver and the passenger of the taxi hit the rear of the dump truck ahead. We are still currently investigating how it became that way but we need some more statements. We had already received the CCTV footage and black box necessary for the case but if you'd permit, we'd like to invite you for questioning. We only need a few minutes of your time." One of them gestured to Heather.

"I, uh." Heather was hesitant as she keeps looking at the hallway leading to the operating room.

"Excuse me sir but can she speak with you after the patient's out of operation?" I asked on her behalf. "And we need to call their father first."

Heather immediately realized what she needed to do. She took out her phone and called her father. I too had forgotten it the first time and was only reminded after looking at the closed door of the operating room.

Aster's still a minor and their father is their guardian.

"Then that's better, we'll ask the hospital for their cooperation and have this place for us. We can talk here about what happened." The officer said and he gestured the other guy to talk to the head of the hospital.

After an hour and a half, Heather's father arrived together with a middle-aged lady and a young lady and at the same time, the door of the OR opened and a whole medical bed was pushed inside the next room. The patient on it had a lot of stuff hanging.

"May I ask who the guardian is for the young male patient surname Wei?" the nurse asked.

"I am." Mr. Wei came forward. The nurse inquired a few more details before going over to the doctor.

"The surgery is a success but we'll wait and see how the patient recovers. We had to do emergency treatment as he suffered broken ribs and punctured lungs. Both legs are fractured and repaired. We had x-rays and MRI done and other blood tests. Blood transfusions were given during the operation. We need to wait once he wakes up to check if he suffered spinal cord injury or not. The patient also suffered concussions as a result of the crash. I've put him in the recovery area, for now, good for 24 hours and we'll transfer him to your preferred unit if we see his vital sign stabilize." The doctor beside the nurse briefly explained.

"I-I see. Thank you so much for your hard work. But--" Mr. Wei said as he breathed a sigh of relief yet his hands were still shaking.

"Mr. Wei right? Follow me and I'll go over all the details. I know you are worried about your son." The doctor added and Mr. Wei complied.

After they're gone, we sat down on the given waiting area and the atmosphere was solemn. Even I was shocked at how fast things changed. He was just messing around with me yesterday and now he almost left us. I did not plan to meddle with things here but things slowly came my way and I can't help it. If I did not come today and he breathed his last then I'd be devastated for he was already a friend.
