"Ms Lilac Mao please follow me," Stan gestured for her to move forward.

Lilac was unwilling as she clung to her mother "Mom…"

"It's okay. This is just their routine."

But how can Lilac relax when she knows what she's done?

The police officer once again asked her to follow him inside the room.

"Mom, why are they doing this? I get that we're not a part of their family, but why am I being treated like this? I already answered their questions, yet they're pressuring me to admit something I didn't do."

Ms. Violet was conflicted about how to act. She could feel that there was a deeper meaning on why they wanted to interrogate her child, but she was her mother, and her natural response was to protect her.

"Shh, look at me." She held Lilac's face, "Don't be afraid. Mom is here. Just repeat your answers from before, okay?"

Though she was against the idea, Lilac could only nod and follow the police officer named Stan. When they went inside the room, we were invited into the next room just beside it, and we were able to see through a clear window that showed the officer and Lilac. Stan asked the same questions as before, and Lilac's answers to them remained unchanged.

"Then, do you recognize this guy?" Stan asked after giving her a picture of a man wearing a collared shirt. Lilac took it and glimpse at the picture before saying 'no'.

"Do you know him?" He again asked as he gave a picture of a middle-aged man on a uniform to which Lilac shook her head. But I can see her fingers tapping the table lightly.

"Then, do you know him?" Stan asked as he offered the picture. We can all see her eyes grow wide for a bit and this time, Lilac said yes. Ms Violet who was with us also had recognized the last picture. It was her ex-husband after all.

The officer continued to ask Lilac if she recognized the last one, how come he doesn't recognize the second picture when it was the husband of the owner of the club the last guy on the picture is currently working.

"I know the last guy on the picture as he is my father, but after mom and him divorced, I did not have any contacts with him. I'm speaking the truth sir, and you can check my phone." Lilac tried to offer her phone wearing that pitiful eyes on her beautiful face, but the officer only lifted his brows.

"So you deny that you know the second one? How about the first picture? Try to look at it again, and maybe you know him."

"Sir, I honestly don't know them." Lilac firmly denied but the officer only coldly smiled.

"Miss Mao, How do you not recognize the guy that you meet after the accident?"

Her eyelashes quivered as she answered, "Sir I don't understand what you're telling me."

Stan seemed unfazed with her act as he continued his relay of questions, "Ms Mao, you told me that you did not communicate with your father after the divorce yet someone saw you coming and going to his place for the last three weeks. You said you did not know the guy on the first picture yet he knows you?" Stan scoffed.

"Tell me how did you meet the taxi driver and how did he die as the reports said when he was still breathing and recuperating well in a secondary hospital outside the city? We've got some pieces of evidence here." After telling all those words, he spread the files he had been holding on the table.

When Lilac saw the files, she swallowed hard before weakly saying, "I need a lawyer."

Mr. Wei's disappointment was showing on his face while Heather had spat all the bad words she knew.

The police officer granted her wish and called in the public attorney, and at the same time, we were led out of the room. Ms Violet begged to speak with Lilac and went inside.

"I knew my senses weren't wrong." Heather suddenly voiced out. She was speaking about the 'bad vibes' she got after meeting the mother and daughter pair. Her father only lowered his head with an unreadable face before eventually calling their family's lawyer.

After some time, Lilac and Ms Violet came out of the room with their lawyer and proceeded to speak to the authorities. Ms Violet wanted to speak with Heather's father but he refused. Then the family lawyer of the Wei's arrived and was informed of the situation.

A formal case was put forward to the court, and we waited for the truth to come out.

What happened to Aster was the result of Lilac's scheme. After the siblings went to live with their grandparents, Mr. Wei's company went unstable after Heather's maternal grandparents kept pulling out their investments. Mr. Wei was busy with work and got no time to spare. Even the date of his marriage was affected and was moved to next year. Lilac had already boasted the marriage to her peers and promised to treat them to a fancy meal. With her real father's network, they found a guy that was in need of cash and planned to kidnap Aster. But she did not want to extort money from Mr. Wei, what she wanted was Aster's agreement to the marriage, after all, if her mother successfully marries then her life shall flourish.

But she did not calculate that an accident will happen, and so she needed to clean up her mess. She went back to her father's place and demanded some help. Her father gave her the contact number of his middle-school classmate who was a 3rd class inspector and Lilac met with him. She offered him an amount to which he agreed in addition to a one night of pleasure. With no other way of fixing her mess, Lilac decided. She is only nineteen while the guy was thirty-six.

The inspector called his friend that was in charge of the case and asked for a favor, so the investigations were put to a stop, and they wrote it as a simple car malfunction. They made it seem as if the brakes were not properly functioning thus the accident happened. The taxi driver that was unconscious woke up on the fifth day, and the inspector made him fake his death. They paid one intern to create a certificate and record of his death and attached it to the case file. They had also given some money to his family, and they transferred him to another hospital. In short, the taxi driver was still alive and recuperating.

Instead of Lilac, it was Ms Violet who pleaded guilty. She said that all of it was her plan and her child was innocent. She claimed that her daughter only acted what she ordered to do to which Lilac admitted. Her tearful eyes were on Heather's father all the time she spoke yet Mr. Wei shut his eyes and refused to become softhearted. Mr. Wei's bottom-line was his children and Lilac just touched his.

It sure was nice to have your mother protecting you, but they should know the good and bad.

All good feelings Mr. Wei had on the mother and daughter pair disappeared in an instant.

The authorities warned Ms Violet that if she was found out lying, then she'll face perjury and a separate case will be opened for her. It was the same for Lilac; she'll suffer more years in prison and an additional fine. In the end, they had retracted their statements. Her real father, the inspector who helped her and the taxi driver was charged as an accessory to the crime. And the first team of police that investigated the case was dismissed from their post.

It was revealed that Lilac already bought the private investigator Heather paid to check on the identity of the taxi driver. As to how she knew of the person was because her mother told her. After being asked by Heather, the private investigator called Mr. Wei who was sleeping at that time so Ms. Violet answered the phone. After the conversation, Lilac came to the hospital and naturally, her mother had spoken about the call. Unconsciously or not, Ms Violet had helped her daughter hid the truth.

Mr. Wei was heartbroken. His decision to remarry resulted in his child's accident. Ms. Violet, though, wasn't unblemished. Her closeness with her child led her into this type of relationship. When she mentioned her new suitor's job to Lilac, it was the start of her child's greed. Slowly, it was her child's words that led her to continue seeing Benjamin Wei. Though she admired the man, it wasn't to the point of love. It was because of Lilac saying that she wanted him as her father that Ms. Violet had tried hard to keep the relationship going.

The day after the trial ended, Aster finally woke up from his coma. His ventilator was changed to a simple oxygen mask and was transferred to a regular room. Mr. Wei cried, and Heather played it cool saying, "I knew this would happen."

With him in a regular room, there was no limit to his visitors. Every day, his grandparents would travel so that they could see him. It was the first time Mr. Wei also had allowed few of his teachers for a visit. Heather was slowly regaining back her healthy body, and her father had removed his beard.
