A Dark Inferno

(1)

       It was bright outside.

The table was full of tasty treats, they all looked delicious.

Eating: isn't only a source of enjoyment, but also a form of art.

Madame Wei surely knew how to enjoy the art of eating.

She looked exquisite as she savored every bite.

Regardless of what she was eating, she had a way of making people think that it was extremely delicious.

Not to mention, the treats before her were indeed all quite delicious.

The smell was definitely fragrant, and every single bite was yummy.

Big G unconsciously started to salivate. He seemed to get extremely hungry every time he started to sober up.

Watching someone eat and drink to their heart's content was the worst kind of suffering for Big G.

"Eating and drinking in front of your guests all by yourself while they are starving, that doesn't seem very hospitable," he said loudly.

Madame Wei nodded her head, "Truly not very hospitable, but are you two my guests?"

Big G thought about it. "No," he sighed while smiling bitterly.

Madame Wei: "Would the two of you like to by my guests."

       Big G: "Nope."

Madame Wei: "Why? Because of Forest?"

Big G took a long sigh, "It's not our fault he is our friend."

Madame Wei smiled, "Although you two are being good friends, you're also pretty stupid."

       Big G: "Oh?"

Madame Wei: "Until now, you guys still haven't even asked me why I am looking for Forest."

Big G: "We don't need to ask."

Madame Wei: "Why not? How do you guys know what my intentions are? Maybe I’m only looking for him in order to give him something."

Big G: "All I know is that if he doesn't want to see you, then we can't allow that to happen; no matter what your intentions are, it's all the same."

Madame Wei: "How do you know that he doesn't want to see me?"

Big G: "Because you're too anxious to find him, as if you’re up to something no good, otherwise, you should let us go and tell him, then he can come and find you."

Madame Wei smiled, "Looks like you're not that stupid after all, just a little foolish."

       Big G: "Oh?"

Madame Wei: "Even if you guys were worried about me secretly following you, you could just not go back. Why wouldn't you go somewhere else, what's the point of tying yourselves up here?"

Big G thought about it, he looked at Swally, "Seems to make sense, why are we still here?"

Madame Wei: "Because I’m not about to let the two of you leave anymore."

Big G: "You said it yourself that we are free to leave whenever we want."

Madame Wei: "I've changed my mind."

She laughed before continuing to explain, "You know, women always have a reason to change their minds."

Big G sighed, "Too bad you're not a women."

Madame Wei: "What would be good about that?"

Big G was staring at her steamed buns and dumplings, "If you were a man, I could at least forget about my honor and steal some of your food."

Madame Wei smiled, "Why don't you pretend I'm a man and see what happens."

Big G looked at Swally again, he gave him a wink.

Madame Wei: "The two of you might as well try and see what you can steal."

Swally smiled, "He has much thicker skin than I do, let him make the first move."

Big G sighed, "When someone is starving to death, why wouldn’t they have thick skin?"

He suddenly lunged towards the table full of food. All of his fingers instantly became like eagle claws, he was actually using the deadly "Soaring Eagle Talon" move from the Falcon Eagle Sect.

It was rather ridiculous that he was using the "Soaring Eagle Talon" to try and steal some steamed dumplings.

But when someone is starving, they are capable of doing anything.

Madame Wei smiled, "Your Eagle Talon kung fu isn't bad."

She was speaking casually, her chopsticks sprang forward.

Her chopsticks were inlaid with emerald jade, these type of chopsticks would normally snap in half pretty easily.

Her chopsticks pressed lightly on the middle finger of Big G's right hand.

       The chopsticks didn't break.

But Big G felt like he was about to break in half, he suddenly stumbled from his attack midair, and he saw that he was about to crash into the table full of treats.

Madame Wei's chopsticks pinched his belt all of a sudden, his entire weight was being held up by this delicate pair of chopsticks.

       The chopsticks still hadn't broke.

Madame Wei's hand was hanging in the air, holding him with her chopsticks as if she was holding a giant piece of shrimp.

       Swally stood there shocked.

Madame Wei smiled, "Such a big dumpling, should be enough for you."

Before she had finished speaking, Big G was already flying towards Swally.

Swally tried to catch him, but as soon as they came into contact, they were both sprawled on the floor.

Big G couldn't get up, all he could do was stare at Madame Wei from the ground.

He seemed to be in a daze.

"Do you know what kind of kung fu she is using?" Swally suddenly asked.

       Big G shook his head.

Swally: "Since you know eagle talon kung fu, you should know the 'The Swooping Eagle Prey' move."

       Big G nodded.

Swally smiled, "The move she just used was an adaptation of the 'Swooping Eagle Prey,' but she just used chopsticks instead."

Big G sighed, "Am I an eagle's prey or a dumpling?" he muttered.

Swally: "You're a dumpling made out of the meat of an eagle's prey."

Big G laughed, "I never thought you would know so much about everything."

Big G suddenly shot forward, quick as an arrow.

This time, he didn't reach for the table, he scurried underneath the table.

Madame Wei was smiling at their conversation, she appeared amused.

She never expected Big G would suddenly spring forward in the middle of their conversation, and she certainly never imagined that he would scurry beneath the table.

There wasn't anything to eat under the table, what was he doing under there? Was he looking for bones?

       Dumplings don't have bones.

Madame Wei couldn't help but think it was a little strange, but at that very moment, the food suddenly came bouncing off the table.

Big G had banged the bottom of the table with his fist, causing the food to bounce several feet into the air.

Swally extended his hand, the rope that had been tied around his legs suddenly came flying out, curling around the target like a snake, he pulled back at least seven or eight tasty treats.

Big G had already scurried out from under the table.

Swally relaxed his grip and four treats came falling out, Big G grabbed a few of them with his hand, and aimed to catch the last one with his mouth. A steamed glutinous rice dumpling fell perfectly into his mouth.

Although those few seconds weren't some exceptional display of amazing kung fu, the precision and timing of their movements was simply outstanding.

Madame Wei sighed audibly, "Let's just say that letting you two have some food was worth the show you guys put on."

Big G quickly gulped down the remaining food, "Seems like you have a conscience after all."

When he had started to eat his second treat, Swally had finished his first steamed bun.

Getting this steamed bun wasn't easy, so he chewed slowly to savor the moment.

Swally smiled, "This bun sure is good, but what is it made out of?"

Madame Wei smiled, "The buns and dumplings are made with two different kinds of stuffing."

       Big G: "What two?"

Madame Wei: "One is fresh shrimp."

Big G: "And the other one?"

Madame Wei: "Rat meat, poisoned rats."

× × ×

Rats were perfectly edible, but poisoned rat meat could be lethal.

The food Big G had swallowed now seemed to be sticking in his throat, he was no longer able to swallow anything.

He had wanted to ask what kind of meat he had eaten, but it was no longer necessary for him to ask.

He suddenly felt all of his limbs go numb, a dizziness came upon him.

He saw Swally's face turn ashen grey, and then slowly blacken.

       Madame Wei was still smiling.

Big G wanted to rush forward, but suddenly everything seemed very distant. Swally's face went blurry, and then he couldn't see anything at all.

All he could feel was Swally rushing to his side, holding him and saying, "Before I die, I have a secret I need to tell you."

       Big G: "Wh... What secret?"

       Swally: "I..."

He fell to the ground before he could finish telling him his secret.

Even if he had gotten it out, Big G wouldn't have heard anything.

× × ×

People perish in the pursuit of riches, and birds die in the pursuit of sustenance.

       This saying wasn't entirely correct.

Some people don't care about riches, and wouldn't risk their life in the pursuit of money, but more often than not they might perish in the pursuit of something good to eat.

Would this kind of death would be unjust?

Wait until you’re exhausted from hunger, you might even prefer death over starving slowly.

But what were they going hungry for?

Friendship, of course it was for their friends.

People who die for their friends, those kind of people would never go to hell.

But if all of their friends were already in hell, well then they might prefer going there instead of heaven.

(2)

Since time known, death has always been the hardest obstacle to overcome.

Death, certainly could be considered a terrible thing.

Which means that its over for you, you’re gone forever, there is no more hope for you, your flesh will soon be rotting; your name will be nothing but a distant memory.

What is more terrible than death?

If after death, you knew you were going to hell that in fact would be even scarier.

But what kind of place is hell, nobody knows.

That place must be very dark, extremely dark...

× × ×

       Darkness.

The kind of darkness where you couldn't see a thing.

Big G couldn't even see himself.

All he could feel was that his eyes were already open.

But where was he? Did he still exist? He had absolutely no idea.

"Not knowing" can also be frightening—perhaps that is mankind's greatest fear.

People are afraid of death, because they have no idea what will happen to them after death.

Big G was also afraid, he was so scared that he could barely move.

Fear is a feeling that humans will never be able to overcome completely.

After some time, Big G eventually realized that it sounded like there was someone breathing beside him.

But was that the sound of another person? He had no idea.

It was hard to have any confidence in such a dark place.

Fortunately he still had faith in one thing: Swally was with him when he was alive, so even if they were dead they could at least have died together.

Some friends would always be with you, in life and in death.

So Big G summoned his courage, "Swally... Is that you?"

After some time, a weak voice replied from the Darkness, "Is that you little G?"

Big G sighed a breath of relief.

As long as he had a friend with him, life and death seemed insignificant.

He started to move in his direction, he finally felt his hand, it was ice cold.

Big G: "Is this your hand?"

The hand moved, holding onto Big G tightly.

He could hear Swally's weak voice, "Where are we?"

       Big G: "I don't know."

       Swally: "Are we still alive?"

       Big G sighed, "I don't know."

Swally also sighed, "You were always a little confused when you were living, and now you’re a muddle headed ghost."

Big G smiled, "You always bashed me when you were living, now you're a trash talking ghost," he said laughing.

Swally didn't say anything, but he squeezed Big G's hand even harder.

He was normally very strong, but he seemed to be relying on Big G in this moment.

Perhaps he had always relied on Big G, but he normally tried his best to control himself—when someone is truly afraid, only then will their true emotions come gushing out.

Big G was silent for some time, "Guess what I really want to know right now?" he suddenly asked.

Swally: "You want to know where we are."

       Big G: "Nope."

Swally: "You want to know if we are even still alive."

       Big G: "Nope."

Swally sighed, "I don't feel like trying to guess what's in your heart, why don't you just come out and say it."
