Xiao Ning was evidently concerned about Qai's decision to stay but Qai was determined to get involved—that was because, firstly, he could tell that the Han Valley side was outnumbered and secondly, he was interested to find out what the bandits were really up to.

"I'll be fine," Qai said. "Besides," the Han Valley is already here."

Xiao Ning obviously would not be able to convince Qai to go with them so she complied with Qai's instruction and took the children away.

****************

"There he is," the Han Valley chief cautiously said while pointing to the bandit boss.

Her companions looked intently from afar and carefully estimated the scene and easily figured out that there were at least five bandits that obviously outmatch them.

"Chief, we can take on the rest..," one of them proudly remarked, "..so you can concentrate fighting the boss."

What the Han Valley cultivator actually meant was that he and the other cultivator would each engage in a fight two versus one.

"I'm not one hundred percent certain if I can finish off two at the same time," the other said facing the Han Valley chief, "..but I'm pretty sure they won't be able to kill me.. so at least I can lock them up onto me."

The chief nodded and looked again at the direction of the bandits.

"They seem to be busy doing something," Chief Xing Yi said with a grin. "Let's take this opportunity to strike first."

****************

"Take everything that you can," Bandit boss Jing instructed his fellow bandits.

The other bandits agreed and knew what the boss meant. What they were actually hauling were valuable enough for them to revive the entire bandit group in the future.

"This kind of fortune..," the bandit boss explained, "..while we cannot personally use them yet, we can trade some of them for us to survive for a long time.."

His companions nodded with a grin as they couldn't agree more.

Qai, on the other hand, was confused from afar from what the bandits were actually trying to grab.

'What are those!?' He thought to himself as tried to observe the enemies.

Qai was not able to notice earlier that the five bandits were actually along a riverbank. But upon seeing them hauling things from the river, his heart pumped up in excitement.

'I knew there's something more to these bandits,' he thought.

Meawhile, at the Han Valley's side, the chief and her companions themselves couldn't believe in what they were seeing—so much so that it made them lose focus from their plan of dealing the first strike.

"Are those spirit stones!?" The Han Valley chief softly uttered in surprise.

'Spirit stones,' in the world of cultivation had twofold uses:

First, they were used to aid a cultivator in their cultivation process—especially those in the emperor realm and above as the concocted cultivation pills have little, if not none, effect on them.

Second, they may also be used as a currency among cultivators—as they have, for them, greater value than gold. And in this particular world, 'spirit stones' were mostly in circulation among emperors.

"No wonder these bastards are rich," one of the Han Valley cultivators remarked.

That also explained why this particular bandit organization were able to recruit plenty of sages on their side as they had something special to entice them.

The boss and the higher ups must have told their recruits that once they stepped into emperor realm, resources would be bountiful as the river within their territory was actually a small mining site for spirit stones.

"Chief," the other cultivator said, "if I were not mistaken, that river must be some sort of a mining site."

The Han Valley chief nodded as she already figured that out herself.

"If we finish this guys off, then this river could be ours," the cultivator greedily suggested.

"Let's put away our greed first," the chief rebuked him as she shook her head. "Let's focus on exterminating them first."

Indeed, such kind of wealth was hard to resist—and the existence of the mining spot meant that the source of fortune would not run dry.

Actually, the river was pretty small and it could possibly produce not much 'spirit stones' but for the Han Valley, to be able to have that kind of thing in their territory would instantly transform their economy from town level into that of a city.

But with the reminder of the chief, the Han Valley team regained their concentration and got conscious of the more important thing at hand.

****************

Qai was vigilant to what was about to happen as he continuously activated his 'Hawkeye' skill. And by that time, he was certain that Xiao Ning and the children whom they rescued were already too far to get caught in the impending battle.

He can tell that the Han Valley chief and her companions were going to take advantage of the situation as it was obvious that the three were about to attack taking in consideration with their postures.

And with only few breaths gone, the three Han Valley cultivator did indeed jumped off and activated their most potent offensive skills headed straight to their targets.

'Booooooom.'

'Wabaaaaaaam.'

'Baaaaaaaang.'

Three bandits, including the boss, were instantly caught by surprise and flew few meters away due to the impact of the attack.

"Arrrrrghhhh."
