It was Zhang Xuan's father.

Unfortunately though, his underhanded attack was unexpectedly blocked.

And to the surprise of the crowd, it was not because Shu Liang parried it. It was due to another 'unknown' cultivator of about fifty years of age with chiseled face who suddenly appeared beside Shu Liang.

But what was even more surprising was that the unknown cultivator actually blocked the long sword strike with just his bare hands—and that cultivator was clearly emitting a half-step Emperor Qi aura.

Moreover, not only was the strike deflected, the head of the Zhang family who was himself at Heaven stage Sage realm was forced to stay down on his knees with the heavy pressure brought about by the half-step Emperor's Qi aura.

The unknown half-step Emperor then kicked him which forcefully ejected him outside the stage.

'Baaam.'

Thereafter, four other young cultivators in the Sage realm one by one hopped on to the platform behind the mysterious half-step Emperor.

"I'm Ye Mo," he suddenly told Shu Liang.

Shu Liang was obviously confused but her face showed gratitude for saving her from the attack.

"These are the members of the team," the Ye Mo said pointing at the young Sages behind him. "And I will be the guardian of the team in the tournament next year."

"Ah."

He was of course referring to the sub-competition to be held in Kunlun Mountains.

The conversation was loud enough for the crowd to hear what he just said so the spectators eventually figured out what was going on.

However, what Ye Mo did after was what surprised the crowd.

The half-step Emperor right there and then jumped from the stage and landed near Zhang Xuan whose almost-dead body was still lying on the ground. Ye Mo then stooped down and took the young cultivator's spatial ring and threw it towards Shu Liang.

"I think this belongs to you," he suddenly exclaimed.

Shu Liang caught the spatial ring then looked intently at the entire group in front of her as if she was trying to gauge the strength of each member of the team.

"I guess I should be going with you from now on then," she curiously said.

"Indeed," on of the members of the team said. "We have to travel and hone our strengths together til the tournament."

Thereafter, Ye Mo approached the city elders in attendance and conversed for a moment, probably to express his gratitude regarding hosting the open-tournament, before finally going back to join the group.

"It's time for us to go," he said.

The entire team nodded in agreement then bowed their heads in front of the crowd as they took their leave.

****************

About a week later, Qai emerged from his closed door cultivation in an inn exuding a mid Earth stage of the Sage realm Qi aura.

He looked at Shandian and saw that his contracted black tiger who appeared to be excited with its new strength was also emitting the same level of aura.

But right after he went out of the inn, Dong Li was already waiting for him.

"Young master," Dong Li called.

Qai simply smiled although he was a bit confused since he had not given Dong Li any instruction to wait for him.

"Young master," Dong Li once again said, "big sister had already finished crafting two sets of inner armors."

"Ah."

"She told me to tell you about it," the young mortal proudly reported with a smile.

"Alright," Qai happily replied. "Let's go to your place then."

Ding Li looked around carefully and seemed to be looking for something.

"Where's big sister Feng Lan, young master!?" Dong Li suddenly inquired.

"Oh," Qai said. "I almost forgot about her."

The two thus went back inside the inn and knocked on the door of Feng Lan's room.

Surprisingly, the slave cultivator made her own breakthrough after a week of closed door cultivation—she was now at the half-step Sage realm.

"I guess equipping three skills in a row helped me pushed my cultivation to the next level a bit quick," Feng Lan awkwardly remarked.

Although Feng Lan was already few years older than Qai, it should be remembered that cultivators with special bloodline would take more time than usual to breakthrough as they would need tons of resources to do so—and that explained why she was only in the Expert realm.

"That's great," Qai said with a smile.

Feng Lan had been 'enslaved' for such amount of time already that she had almost forgotten the feeling of being praised.

"Come with us..," Qai suddenly said. "Let's put on some new armors first before you show us your skills."

The slave cultivator's was delighted to learn that apart from the fairly good skill scrolls she already received, she would still get new armors from her 'master.' So she simply nodded and followed Qai and Dong Li.

After some minutes, the three finally reached Dong Li's place in the 'Alliance' territory and immediately met with his big sister.

Dong Fei's expression, on the other hand, was surprised to see that there was another person besides Qai and his little brother.

Qai quickly guessed Dong Fei's look and instantly introduced his 'slave cultivator.'

"By the way," Qai descriptively said, "she's going to have the other set of inner armors."

Dong Fei actually did not bother to ask the reason why but Qai cared to explain it anyway.

"We're going to test her strength in a slave match."
