News about the Purple Mist Sect's plan to open a portal through the formation of the Desolate Wasteland reached every corner of the region.

The region under the sect's dominion was not actually confined with only the the Jiang City, Han Valley and the two villages--there were other towns, villages and cities surrounding the sect that were within their influence and control.

Unfortunately, even if the scale of the event was large, the portal would only admit cultivators in the expert realm and would only be sustained for only up to 30 days the most.

It was unknown weather the reason for such limitation was that the Purple Mist Sect 'intentionally' placed some restrictions for advantageous purposes or that the Purple Mist Sect's capacity to endure creating a portal was only upto that extent--perhaps because the defense of the formation from cracking up a gate is truly amazing.

With such restriction, only the disciples of clans, families and scattered Expert cultivators from every city and towns went wild in preparation. Many discliples in the expert realm felt elated that only they could have the chance to monopolize whatever could be found inside the wasteland.

While the desolate wasteland--as it suggested, a 'waste' land--had probably nothing much to offer, many still believed that hidden treasures could be found inside.

In the past, there were already attempts to enter the wasteland but only little was gained. That was because the truth was that there were more unexplored areas--but with the little amount of time the portal can hold on, no one can blame the little harvest of cultivators who successfully returned.

***************

Historically, the wasteland was the battlefield of a great war that occured several thousands of years ago. It was actually a battle between the demonic beasts and the human cultivators.

Nobody knew or at least no historical fact could be found in the records as to why the war actually started. The only information the cultivators of present posessed were stories handed down from generations to generations.

Accordingly from those days, the wasteland was flowing with resources, and was apparently, one of the centers of the cultivation world--but the deaths that the war brought upon the two opposing sides made the area barren.

Tales were told that there stood a great sect, called 'Soaring Sky Sect' in one of the mountainous areas inside the wasteland that spearheaded the great war.

Those were the times the cultivation world was filled with Emperors and a time when a handful of 'Divine' realm cultivators were in existence.

The war plainly resulted to nothing but death to thousands of cultivators and demonic beasts.

In the end, the Divine cultivators of that time--who felt that the war could escalate to the annihilation of both sides--decided to seal off the battlefield by creating a formation.

So to avoid further damage to the cultivation world, they actually sacrificed themselves in order to create the sealed formation so that all of those outside cannot access the battlefield and all those inside can no longer come out.

With that, having left no survivor, the war ended. As a result, the enmity between demonic beasts and cultivators ended as well.

That decision--bittersome as it may seem--appeared to be, at that time, the most logical option, for after all, the demonic beasts and human race outside the battlefield managed to live at present without much conflict.

***************

Presently, cultivators around the wasteland were convinced that various treasures left by the cultivators who participated in the Great War were bountiful--from weapons to armors, to cultivation resources, skill scrolls, and many others.

One only needed to diligently search ruins and settlements of the battle of old.

And not only that, many also believed that few high class demonic beasts survived the war and that they probably, for many years now, managed to create an untapped demonic beast world--and that meant that skills inexistent at present could possbly be unearthed from this desolate wasteland.

***************

Back in the plateau, the rest of the members of the Shu family were very busy in their preparations. At that moment, the inn was already accomodating a handful of guests.

Even if the portal to the wasteland was yet to open, some cultivators were already this early spending time in the Darkwood Forest honing their team or individual skills in preparation for the upcoming event.

In fact, Shu Liang was also spending her training inside the forest with the help of the Shu family's two domesticated Dire Wolves.
