Everyone present did not know how to react with what Old Yu exactly said. Perhaps it was kind of unexpected.

There was actually nothing wrong with Old Yu's wish. It was just that the request was unusual—especially since there was actually no official heirarchy in the Shu family so far. And should the wish be granted, then Old Yu would be the first.

In truth, Old Yu was already respected and treated as an elder largely because of his age. But it would be different if he would be really commissioned as one. When someone would be appointed as an elder, such person would have some sort of authority.

Old Yu requested for it not because he coveted for power in the family, but that he felt he could serve the family more by devoting his life as 'elder' in the family. He felt that it was the only thing he could give back to the family for all the things he received from his benefactor.

"How about it, Father?" Qai redirected the focus by asking the family head himself.

"Hmmmn," Shu Wei could not immediately give an affirmative answer.

It was obviously a difficult decision to make. Shu Wei never saw this kind of predicament coming. So far, even if most of the decisions were his, many of the ideas obviously belonged to his youngest son Qai.

"You don't have to worry about it Master Shu Wei," Old Yu said recognizing the hesitation from the family head.

"I do not desire authority..," he explained, "..I merely wish to show my loyalty to the family.. and as a sign of gratitude, I want to serve the family more by being an elder.. I want to be forever associated with the Shu family.."

"This..," Old Yu shyly added as he tried to convince Shu Wei, "..this is the only thing I know to thank all of you.."

Qai smiled with how Old Yu deeply expressed it.

"Father, how about this..," Qai called.

"Let us grant his request..," he said.

Everyone opened their ears in excitement. The entire Shu famiky members already got used to Qai's unique way of looking at things.

"Let's make Old Yu officially the first elder in the family..," Qai suggested.

"And make himself truly the treasurer of the family..," he described, "..all resources.. be they cultivating pills, weapons, scrolls or whatever should only be released under his approval.."

All who heard his words were already taken aback. They were about to voice out different opinions but Qai was not yet done.

"Also..," Qai added quickly, "..let us make big brother another elder in the family.."

There was a moment of deep silence among them.

'Shu Wu!?'

'Me!?'

Many of them thought Shu Wu would truly be an elder in the family one day—but at barely 23 years of age, the designation does not somehow feel right.

Shu Wu himself did not feel disposed with the role.

There was no actual age requirement for one to be an elder in any sect, clan or family—it was just that most of the elders in the cultivation world appeared to be the more experienced ones.

"And as regards his authority..," Qai continued then paused a little as if he intended to make everyone pay more attention.

"All the future outer disciples shall be under his tutelage beginning with Shen over here..," he assertively said while gesturing his hand towards Shen.

"Eh."

The task Qai suggested was truly not small one—such responsibility would amount to elevating his big brother as the mentor of the would be disciples of the family.

"Not bad," Shu Wei remarked.

Qai's suggestion was in line with his prior thought years ago when he told his father of designating his brother as the grand elder should they truly become a clan.

So far, the Shu family was no yet in need of additional member or disciple—that is why Qai pointed to Shen to make him the first disciple under Shu Wu in the near future by the time Shen awakens his elemental affinity.

"Alright," Shu Wei said. "Let's make it official then.."

Although there was really no qualms about making the two as elders, everyone felt a bit surprised by the quick affirmative reaction of the family head.

But two of them showed happy faces—Shu Wu's wife, Qinlun and Old Yu's apprentice, Yu Yue. They were both glad with the promotion the two just achieved.

"Beginning today..," Shu Wei emphatically declared, "..Shu Wu and Old Yu shall hold the title of an 'Elder' in the family.. so.. all of you shall call them as such.."

With such serious announcement, many didn't know whether they would laugh or not although they were quick to pay immediate respect.

"Elder Wu."

"Elder Yu."

All of them awkwardly addressed with slight bow.
