Chapter 20.1: Mysterious Family Rule
Outside the Vermillion Bird’s Imperial Palace, the senior officials started to depart slowly, with some them speaking to each other in hushed whispers.
“Why didn’t Her Majesty come attend morning court again today?”
“I heard that Her Majesty seems to have fallen ill. It must be because she has been worrying about the Crown Princess too much.”
“That’s possible. The Crown Princess has gone missing for almost two whole years and there hasn’t been any news of Her Highness at all”
“Sigh. If the Crown Princess does not come back soon, there might soon be a change in the reign of the Vermillion Bird.”
“Do not say that. Let’s hurry up and leave.”
The senior officials quickly dispersed and the outside of the Imperial Palace fell back into its usual tranquil silence. But who could possibly know, once this peaceful quiet passes, what kind of a blood filled storm would blow.

“Xue Er, the colour of your complexion looks so much better today.”
Huangfu Che had just fed Duanmu Xue the last mouthful of her medicine and he was helping her wipe the corners of her mouth with a handkerchief.
“Reporting to Your Majesty, the Duke of Tranquility is seeking an audience.”
Duanmu Xue’s personal female aide Hong Feng announced in a soft voice.
Hearing the words Duke of Tranquility, the brows of both Huangfu Che and Duanmu Xue immediately furrowed up at the same time.
Duanmu Xue instantly noticed Huangfu Che’s reaction and seeing his brows knitting up, she immediately waved her hand dismissively and said: “Denied. Ask her to leave.”
Hong Feng was just about to go out to relay the message when another close aide of Duanmu Xue’s, Hong Ye came walking in.
“Reporting to Your Majesty, the Left Minister seeks an audience.”
“Denied! I do not want to see anyone!”
Duanmu Xue’s tone of voice was highly impatient. [These people are really such a bother, not allowing her to have a single moment of peace.]
She had just shouted when a clamour broke out outside.
“My imperial sister has taken ill so this Duke as her elder sister would naturally need to come pay a visit. Who dares to stop this Duke here…..”
Duanmu Xue was so angry she wanted to kill someone and she smashed the bowl placed upon the low stool at the side.
“Damn it. How dare they barge into my chambers.”
“Xue Er, there’s no need to get agitated. I’ll go out and have a look.”
