Jayde was quite happy when Sor Nelius dismissed the class; she was exhausted. It had been a long day, and right now she just wanted to return to her cottage, bath, eat and then sleep.

Sor Nelius had held Jayde and Ash back after class to give them each a small potions recipe book. For homework, Sor Nelius instructed them to memorize a basic Qi replenishing potion as well as a bone-mending potion. During their lesson, even a novice could see that Ash had experience in making potions, as he professionally cut up and ground his different herbs, and brewed his potion.

Jayde, on the other hand, had been clumsy at the start but had quickly adjusted and become more proficient. Sor Nelius had been delighted with Ash's first potion it had turned out perfectly, while Jayde's potion had been lacking, but her potion had still been a cut above a beginner.

Sor Nelius had never understood his compatriots need for apprentices, nor how they would walk around boasting and bragging about their apprentices, but after today's lesson he could for the first time comprehend the sense of accomplishment a master felt when overseeing their students.

Sor Nelius floated out of the classroom on a cloud of happiness. He was looking forward to dining with his fellow teachers tonight; he couldn't wait to tell everyone about the two geniuses he had just accepted.

Jayde and Ash walked together to the private cottage section, on the way Jayde asked Ash why he wanted to be a disciple of Sor Nelius.

"You never heard of Sor Nelius?" Ash asked with disbelief.

Shrugging Jayde shook her head. She didn't understand what the big deal was.

"Sor Nelius is the ONLY master level alchemist in the Lower Realm," Ash explained.

"Oh!" Jayde said she had no idea what else to say.

Seeing that Jayde was still acting indifferently about becoming Sor Nelius apprentice, he went on to say: "Sor Nelius is worshipped by all alchemists here, every royal family has offered him a high position to join their houses, the Mages Guild even offered him the presidency to join them — and he has NEVER accepted an apprentice before," he said emphatically.

"Hmm, well then he should be sufficient as a potion teacher," Jayde mused.

"S..s..ufficent?" Ashed stuttered.

"Jayde, he a bloody genius alchemist, we are so damn lucky to be in his class, nevermind becoming his disciples," Ash said exasperatedly at Jayde lukewarm response.

Seeing the vexed look on Ash's face, Jayde raised her hands placatingly as she said: "Ah okay, I get it."

Since Jayde cottage was first, she waved goodbye to Ask as she lifted the hinge to the small gate. Walking into her little cottage, both Takara and Lucia were waiting for her. Takara came bouncing over when Jayde entered.

Leaning down Jayde picked up Takara cuddling him.

"So were you a good boy today?"

Tossing Jayde a proud look, Takara snuggled deeper into Jayde's arms. Of course, I was, he thought proudly, I marked our territory so that all those lowly beast know that I am the new boss here. It was just as well that Jayde couldn't read Takara's mind, as she surely wouldn't have been happy knowing that Takara had spent the whole day peeing all over the place.

"Mistress dinner is ready," Lucia said, smiling softly at the interaction between the snowkitten and her mistress.

"Ah thank the gods Lucia, I'm starved."

Sitting at the small kitchen table the three ate the dinner, Jayde shared the more interesting tidbits about her day with Lucia, making the girl giggle.

Once Lucia left the cottage after she had tidied up after Jayde's bath, Jayde activated her defense wards before porting to the artifact.

Dragon Realm

While Jayde had a busy first day at school, Ren was meeting Xinglong and Laolong in a private study.

Xinglong and Laolong were shocked at Ren's news about Shaolin.

"High Priestess Sharlin hasn't informed you yet?" Ren asked surprised when both Xinglong and Laolong expressed amazement at his news about Shaolin.

"No, all our requests to meet with the Prophetess are denied," Xinglong said through gritted fangs.

Ren's eyes narrowed as he stared blankly at the desk in front of him.

"Strange, the humans, have always loved lording it over us because of the Prophetess," he said thoughtfully.

"Yes, and draining our treasuries dry to see her," Xinglong hissed his eyes flashing with anger just thinking about the exorbitant fees the humans demanded, "I have heard it's not only dragons that are turned away, everyone requesting an audience with the Prophetess are denied."

Tilting his head to one side, Ren considered all the information he had received to date.

"And you have heard no rumors about Shaolin?" he queried.

"Nothing, this is the first time I have heard about the Shaolin's prophecy," confirmed Xinglong.

Feeling Ren's heavy look, Laolong nodded, "Same here."

"Could that bitch have lied to you?" Xinglong asked.

Very few knew that Xinglong and Ren were close friends. After Ren escaped from his father, he spent years gaining strength and finding allies. Ren's father Salroch, fearing his son, contracted many assassins to murder his son.

While on one of his excursions Laolong came upon the mortally wounded demon, surrounded by countless corpses. Looking into those clear purple eyes shining with rage and determination, Laolong was driven to save the dying demon.

After recovering at Shadow Mountains, Ren spent years with Laolong's five hatchlings. Xinglong being arrogant and headstrong had given the young demon a hard time initially, it was after Ren had beaten the young dragon into a pulp, that the two struck up a close friendship, becoming closer than blood brothers.

To Laolong and Yulong, Ren was their sixth hatchling. When Ren returned to the Demon Realm to dispose of his father, many young shadow dragons joined the young princeling, including Xinglong.

And years later, when Ren succumbed to the demon's feral rage during the last Zartonesh invasion, after the young drakaina was slaughtered, it was Xinglong who stood at his right-hand side while Ren decimated the Zartonesh, protecting the new Demon King.

Laolong was filled with pride as he gazed at his two sons as they discussed the Shaolin prophecy; both young men had grown up powerful, intelligent; and cunning. For the first time, he felt that the future of Doha would be secure with these two youngest at the helm.

Xinglong was suspicious about what the humans were up to. Like Ren he suspected that the humans were the ones that allowed the Zartonesh to sneak into the Demon Realm and murder the young drakaina, he had seen for himself the sick obsession that woman had for his friend.

He would never forgive them for their betrayal. He was one of the few who knew just how close he had come to losing his brother to the notorious demon feral rage, and how even now his brother had to fight to keep his sanity.

"Sharlin maybe a devious bitch, but she is not an idiot, I can't see her jeopardizing the reputation of the Prophetess by coming up with a false prophecy," Ren said seriously.

Rubbing his jaw with one paw, Xinglong pondered over Ren's statement.

"True, but you were the only one to hear the prophecy,"

"I have already thought about that, but it could also be that those greedy bastards want to keep the news of Shaolin to themselves," Ren countered.

Xinglong's eyes gleamed as he thought over Ren's statement, he wouldn't put it passed those humans from the Radiant Realm to do something like that either.
