"The auction will now begin for this fire sword. We will start the bidding at one hundred thousand gold pieces. Do I hear one hundred thousand?" the auctioneer called out.

A mage in the gallery raised his bid card.

"We have a current bid of one hundred thousand gold, I repeat one hundred thousand gold."

"One hundred and ten thousand," a male voice cried out.

"We have a current bid of one hundred and ten thousand gold, I repeat one hundred and ten thousand," the auctioneer chanted.

"Two hundred thousand," a new voice yelled.

"We have a current bid of two hundred thousand, I repeat two hundred thousand."

"Two hundred and fifty thousand."

"We have a current bid of two hundred and fifty thousand, I repeat two hundred and fifty thousand."

"Three hundred and fifty thousand," a hoarse female voice yelled.

"We have a current bid of three hundred and fifty thousand, I repeat three hundred and fifty thousand."

Up in her private suite, Jayde watched the excitement below. The bids were coming in fast and furious.

"Hey, Jayde aren't you going to bid?" Raven asked.

Jayde's lips curved into a half smile. "Not yet, I am waiting for the serious bidders to get involved," she said.

"..."

All three teenagers stared at Jayde, their confused expressions nearly identical. Jayde bit back her laughter. Waving her hand to indicate the masses below she said: "These guys are small fries when the VIP boxes light up that is when you will know that the serious buyers are taking part."

As one, all three heads turned to look at the VIP boxes on the opposite side to their balcony. Jayde sat comfortably in her chair her chin resting on her fisted left hand while her right index finger lightly tapped on the arm of her seat.

She could hear the bids being called below, the price had reached two million gold pieces. Just as she was starting to wonder how much longer she would have to wait before the VIP's got involved. The window of one of the suites across from her lit up.

"Five million gold," a robust authoritative voice called.

There were a couple of seconds of pure silence before the auctioneer chanted: "We have a current bid of five million gold, I repeat five million gold."

"Five million, one hundred thousand," a new male voice called out from another private suite.

Before the auctioneer could confirm, another box lit up. "Five million, five hundred thousand."

"Six million gold," the same authoritative voice yelled.

The auctioneer waited for a couple of seconds to see if anyone else was going to call out.

"We have a current bid of six million gold, I repeat six million gold, do I hear seven?" the auctioneer shouted, his voice betraying his excitement.

"We are at six million gold. Again, do I hear a bid for seven?" the auctioneer repeated.

As the auctioneer repeated his question, the trio slowly turned their heads to look at Jayde. Jayde pressed the button to light up her window.

"Seven million," Jayde called, deepening her voice to disguise it.

"We have a current bid of seven million gold, I repeat seven million gold, do I hear eight?" the auctioneer yelled.

"Seven million, one hundred thousand," the original VIP called.

"Seven million, two hundred thousand," Jayde countered.

"Seven million, two hundred and fifty thousand."

"Seven million, five hundred thousand," Jayde called.

Jayde could hear the strain in the male's voice, he must be close to his limit, she thought.

"Eight million," the man called his voice cracking.

"Eight million, one hundred thousand," Jayde counted.

"Honored guest, I wonder if you could let this sword go, the Temple of the Light has a great interest in this weapon, and we would be indebted to you should you allow us to buy this sword," the man said his voice carrying clearly across the space between the two boxes.

Jayde raised one finely shaped eyebrow at the mage's request. Humph seems like the Temple of the Light wants to use their reputation to win this sword, she thought derisory.

Keeping her voice low, Jayde replied: "I too have an interest in this sword."

"Are you really willing to go against the Temple of the Light for a mere sword?" the mage asked.

Many of the mages sitting in the gallery gasped as they heard the apparent threat made by the representative from the Temple of the Light.

"So this is how the Mages Guild acts towards citizens now if you can't afford a product you threaten them?" Jayde asked sharply.

"It seems to me that ever since the Mages Guild started to worship the Temple of the Light, they now believe that they are the new rulers of the Lower Realm. Does the Temple of the Light now expect us all to bow down and allow you to rule us? What's next — are you going to demand that we give you our treasures and family heirlooms?" Jayde demanded.

As Jayde's statement vibrated through the Auction House, many of the mages started to become rowdy. Some of the mages had already had run-ins with representatives of the Temple of the Light, and it hadn't gone unnoticed how arrogant these mages were acting lately. Jayde's last statement about the Temple of Light demanding their clan's treasures though is what got them all thinking.

If the Temple of the Light got away with pressuring an esteemed guest from the Aeris Auction House, what else would they dare? As the jeers and shouts became louder, the auctioneer quickly came to realize that if he didn't intervene that things could turn ugly.

"Honored guests please settle down. Priest Vasserac, the current bid is eight million, one hundred thousand, do you intend to raise the bid," he said firmly his voice drowning out the loud noises from the gallery.

Jayde's eyebrows rose as she heard the auctioneer address the mage as a priest, these guys aren't wasting time, she thought. They have already given themselves new titles to distinguish themselves.

"Humph, Eight million, five hundred thousand," Priest Vasserac spat out. The stupid bitch, he thought, how dare she cause so much trouble. Just you wait until after the auction he sneered to himself, as he sat back down on his chair.

"Eight million, six hundred thousand," Jayde called out calmly.

"Nine million," Priest Vasserac said through gritted teeth, grabbing a small glass filled with a gold color liquor, he raised it to his mouth and gulped it down. Take that you bitch, he thought.

"Ten million," Jayde responded, unfortunately she could not go any higher, while she had gold stashed away in her dimensional space, she could not retrieve it without drawing unwanted attention, the only reason she had been able to go as high as ten million was because of the ten percent discount her VIP card gave her, which would cover the commission of her sales.

"Jayde!" Ash whispered shocked, while Raven and Nova just stared at Jayde their jaws hanging open while the white of their eyes showed.

At Jayde bid, Priest Vasserac choked on the large gulp of liquor that he had just taken, spluttering and choking, the liquor in his mouth sprayed the glass in front of him. Many of the mages in the crowd below gasped audibly at Jayde's bid, ten million gold, just who was this female mage that could afford to spend ten million on a weapon. She had to be from one of the top noble families, many of them thought.

"Now, I have a current bid of ten million gold. I repeat ten million gold. Do I hear eleven?" the auctioneer called, falling back into his role.

"We are at ten million gold. Again, do I hear a bid for eleven?"

Priest Vasserac desperately wanted to bid, but he didn't have that much gold on him, and it was expected for a guest to pay for their purchase as soon as they won. Should a guest not have the funds available they would be blacklisted at all the auction houses in the Lower Realm, and since he was here representing the Temple of the Light, that would mean the temple would be blacklisted.

Cursing viciously under his breath, he stared hatefully at Jayde's window.

"Ten million gold is the current bid, going once!"

"Ten million gold is the current bid, going twice!"

"Ten million gold to be the final bid price for this fire sword ..."

"SOLD! Auction sold for ten million gold to the lady in the second booth," the auctioneer yelled.

"That will conclude our current auction for the today. Thank you!"

With his final statement, the auctioneer turned and walked off the stage. In Jayde's suite, Nova and Raven let out an excited yell.

"By the gods, Jayde I can't believe you won," Raven exclaimed.

"Hell and damnation, Jayde where the hell did you get ten million gold?" Nova asked at the same time.

Only Ash stood quietly by the side, looking at the opposite window where Priest Vasserac was seated.

While Ash was staring at the window opposite him, Priest Vasserac ordered his assistants to hurry to the bottom of the stairs that led to the VIP suites across from him.

"I want you to find out who that bitch is," he ordered. "Trail her and don't you dare lose her. We must have that sword."

The two assistants bobbed their heads as they rushed out the door. Don't think you have won bitch, Priest Vasserac thought, just you wait and see, I will have that ancient fire sword in my hands before sunset. As he thought about obtaining the fire sword and not having a pay a gold piece for it, he let out a malicious snicker.

After a minute Ash turned around, he then walked over to Jayde. Leaning down Ash said softly: "Jayde you need to be careful, it wasn't wise of you making an enemy of the Temple of the Light."

"Mm-hmm, I know," Jayde responded.

"Hey what you two whispering about?" Nova asked suspiciously.

"Nothing Nova, Ash was just congratulating me."

A discreet knock on the door interrupted whatever Nova was about to say. Ash quickly walked over the door, opening it a crack he peered out. Seeing the same assistant who had led them to this suite, he opened the door wider inviting her in.

The assistant walked in carrying a long wooden case, as well as a small glass container. "Congratulations on your winning bids, Lady Jayde."

Jayde smiled politely. "Thank you," she said, walking over to the assistant. Once she stood in front of the assistant, Jayde handed over her black metal card.

The assistant took the card from Jayde, weaving her magic she deducted the balance due for Jayde purchases. After the amount owing was deducted Jayde only had fifty thousand gold left on the black metal card.

"Miss is there a discreet way for us to leave this building?" Jayde asked.

The assistant looked up sharply, seeing Jayde's calm eyes staring at her, she nodded her head briefly. The assistant was well aware of what had happened during the auction. The girl is not stupid, she thought.

"Please follow me Lady Jayde," the assistant said, before turning around and leading Jayde and her group down the passageway. Just before they reached the flight of stairs, the assistant stopped. Placing her hand against the wall, she mumbled a spell. The wall shimmered as it slowly faded revealing a door.

The assistant opened the door and beckoned for Jayde and her group to follow her. As the four young mages stepped through the door, the door automatically closed. The assistant led Jayde, Nova, Ash, and Raven through the narrow passageway and down a separate narrow flight of stairs.

Once they reached the bottom floor, the assistant again placed her hand on the wall and mumbled another spell. Again the wall shimmered, and another door appeared. Opening the door the assistant indicated for the four to walk through.

Jayde and her group found themselves in a small alleyway. The assistant bowed and bid them farewell, before closing the door.

"Well, what now?" Nova asked.

Jayde shrugged. "Now I need to go to the bakery," she said.

"The bakery?" Nova asked nonplussed by Jayde response.

"Uh-huh."

"Why?" Nova asked scratching his cheek.

"To buy cakes of course," Jayde said nonchalantly, confused why Nova would ask such a stupid question. Jayde removed her cloak, draping it over her arm she hid the long wooden case, the glass container containing the seed she placed in her pocket. Jayde then turned around and walked out of the small alleyway.
