At Sharlin's mention of marriage, Ren's "beast" lunged at the cage binding it, trying to break free, it wanted to tear this woman to pieces for daring to even think of taking its mate place.

Using the time of putting his teacup down, Ren sent his magical power to the magical cage he had built into his mind to reinforce it.

"For the last time, we are not betrothed, we have NEVER been betrothed, my father had no right to bring it up with your father, and as I said over ten thousand years ago, I will only ever wed my truemate, none other" Ren stated forcefully.

Sharlin felt despair at how firmly Ren stated his desire not to marry her, it was just the same as last time, then he had even disowned his father and left the Demon realm disappearing for over two thousand years when his father tried to force the issue.

Refusing to believe that her plan to get Ren to wed her would fail, Sharlin lost all sense of decorum, standing up she angry pointed to him.

"Damn it Ren, you know that your truemate is most likely dead, and her soul eaten by the Soulshedder" ignoring how Ren paled at her words she carried on "are you going to spend the rest of eternity waiting for someone who is never going to appear, how long before you turn huh?" her chest heaving, she started to pace.

"Even I can now feel the darkness growing in you — god damn you — your father found a way to hold back the turning, why the f*ck do you think I became a priestess — it was all for you — to save you" she ranted.

Standing up, Ren roared: "Enough!", the lines around his mouth visible, his hands trembled ever so slightly.

"Do you think I am f*cking stupid, it was you humans who led the Zartonesh to the Demon realm ten thousand years ago, and it was YOUR family that told the Soulshedder about Suzarin being my suspected truemate. She was only two years old, you bitch! The only reason I haven't wiped your f*cking race off the face of Doha is that I have no proof, but by Ala, I swear the moment I have proof I will exterminate every last stinking human on this planet" Ren said wrathfully, his chest heaving, his fists clenching and unclenching.

It was only his extreme willpower that kept him from leaping over and tearing Sharlin to pieces, if he killed her now, he would start a war that would bring all the races into, and it was something he couldn't afford to do right now — but once he had proof of what the human did ten thousand years ago — the other races wouldn't interfere in his actions.

Pointing to the door and speaking through clenched teeth "Get the f*ck out of here, never will I align with humans" he vowed.

Sharlin could feel the wrath pouring off Ren in waves, fearfully she backed up a step, her hand braced against her racing heart, she hadn't seen Ren like this since that night over ten thousand years ago, really regretting that she had opened up this old wound, she turned around and fled, her eyes misty with tears.

Stupid, she was so damn stupid to bring up that damn female child.

Just outside the throne room, she stopped and tried to bring herself under control, she couldn't allow her attendants to see her in this state. Taking deep breathes she calmed herself down, straighten out her clothes, she put on a serene look, hiding her still trembling hands in her robes sleeves, she walked up to her attendants and told them it was time to leave.

Since it was too late to take the stone portal back to the Radiant realm, Sharlin and her attendants booked into the best hotel for the night.

After all her attendants had retired for the evening, Sharlin called her most trusted shadow guard and instructed him to arrange more spies to keep an eye on Ren's movement. With his truemate back in the world, he will soon feel the soul-calling and she needed to find that bitch and eliminate her before she grew up and became a problem.

No matter how much Ren might want to protect his truemate, he wouldn't be able to withstand the soul-calling and would find a way to check up on his truemate.

After her shadow guard left to carry out her instructions, Sharlin sat on the sofa in her hotel room drinking wine, thinking over all that had happened during the meeting with Ren. She had really screwed up bring up the issue with his truemate, but what was more shocking to her was that he was still thinking of revenge after so many thousands of years.

Thank all the gods, she had eliminated everyone involved in the killing of that infant. There was no one to point fingers, he would never find any proof.

Remembering the hateful look in his eyes, Sharlin quickly downed her glass of wine and poured herself another one.

She did not get much sleep that night, as every time she closed her eyes, she saw those purple eyes staring at her filled with bone-chilling hatred.

The next morning a hagged looking Sharlin left with Demon realm with her attendant and returned to the Radiant realm.

Sharlin had a Prophetess to interrogate.
