After Sharlin left the meeting room, Ren's tight leash on his fury broke, in a fit of rage he destroyed every piece of furniture, when he was done he stood in the middle of the room, panting, his chest heaving, he could feel his bloodlust rising, the desire to destroy filling his mind.

Pain in his hands made him look down, he stared at his hands and saw long black nails were starting to grow out of his nailbeds, watching the ever-growing nails shocked him back to his senses.

Desperate to regain control over himself before he did something he would regret, knowing that he was just minutes away from turning, he gathered every ounce of his power, then using the six elements that he had mastery over fire, water, wood, earth, metal and dark, he masterfully weaved them together to create a six element containment ward onto his own emotions, caging them behind the most powerful shield that he knew.

Once he had control over himself again, he looked at his hands, they had reverted back to normal, relieved, he tidied himself up, then leaving the room, he gave instructions to his manservant to clean up the mess.

Walking into his study he instructed his assistant that he wasn't to be disturbed.

Sharlin's comments had ripped open the memories of the darkest day of his life, it was a memory that he had hidden deep within his mind, but she had bought it right out into the open, exposing his greatest failure and his deepest fear.

After he left the demon realm to escape his father's conspiracy to have him wed Sharlin, the marriage was to cement the agreement between his father and Sharlin father — the king the Radiant realm. He traveled Doha seeking experiences, visiting various realms and gaining strength, while at the same time gathering his army to overthrow his father.

He had meticulously planned to gain control over the Demon realm nearly a thousand years before the next invasion by the Zartonesh, giving him enough time to repair the damage his psychotic father had done to the Demon people.

He had only been in power for a couple of years before disaster struck. Who would have ever thought that some insane human with the aid of a divine artifact would open Hell's Gate early catching the whole of Doha unprepared?

Rubbing his face with both his hands Ren thought back to those dark, desperate days. Blood drenched the earth, forming rivers, the screams of the dying filled his mind. The death toll was unimaginable. Daily Ren and his men were drenched up to their knees in blood and dismembered body parts, the smell of blood was so thick in the air that you could taste it.

The war was going badly for the people of Doha, Ren had called for a war council to held in the Demon realm to discuss contingency plans. It was during the summit, that one the elders had arranged for a naming ceremony for a female demon, the elder had wanted to give hope to the young and old demons fighting on the front lines. So many of them were barely hanging on, the relentless killing driving them closer to turning. He had hoped that by showing them that there was still hope, that it would help them hold on, to find the strength to resist the siren call to turn.

Every single demoness birth was a matter of celebration, as Ren was home at that time naturally, he was chosen to preside over the naming ceremony. He still remembers when that tiny infant was placed in his hands, her beautiful lavender eyes looked at him full of trust, and then she smiled at him — at that time he felt something unfurl in his soul,

She was too young for him to confirm that she was his true-mate, but he had his suspicions, worried for the safety of the infant demoness he arranged for some of his shadow guards to accompany her and her family to his winter palace.

Understandably because of his father, her parents were worried about his intentions, so to give them peace of mind he informed them of his suspicions. It wasn't long before rumors spread that the young Suzarin was Ren's true-mate.

It was at this time that Symkyn, the king of the Radiant realm, bought up the betrothal that his father had arranged. Ren dismissed his claims stating that he would never wed his daughter.

Ren returned to the front-lines, more determined to win this war. For eighteen months the pushed the Zartonesh back reclaiming areas they had lost before, it was just after a major battle that Ren received a scouting report that the Zartonesh had broken through the lines to one of the stone portals in the Radiant realm, and an elite group had teleported to the Demon Realm.

From what the scouts had been able to ascertain from analyzing the stored coordinates in the aura stones, the portal port that they had teleported to was close to his winter palace. Rushing to save Suzarin, Ren arrived during a fierce battle.

As he rushed into a small bedroom where the small toddler slept, he found one of the dreaded Soulreapers tearing the small demoness apart.

Insane with anger and grief he immediately attacked, that was the last memory he had until Ala awoke him from his bloodlust.

He had been lost in his bloodlust frenzy for six months, he has no memory of those six months but according to the reports he read, he slaughtered every single Zartonesh in the Demon realm, then returning to front-lines, he fought nearly non-stop for nearly six months, slaughtering nearly a million Zartonesh devils, before a few managed to escape through Hell's Gate and closing it down before he could chase them through it.

After the Zartonesh retreated from Doha, he investigated the incident on how the Zartonesh broke through the lines to reach the portal in the Radiant realm, and he learned that many of the forces that had been protecting the portal had been withdrawn by Symkyn, Sharin's father. While he was convinced at the time that Symkyn organized for the Zartonesh to attack little Suzarin, he had no proof.

While most of the other races were disgusted with humans, especially considering that it was a human that opened Hell's Gate early, they were all battle weary, and with the huge losses they had suffered, they were losing hope — they knew they had another war coming in ten thousand years time, and most of the upper races bred slowly, only humans were prolific breeders, and without humans filling in the ranks, then they were destined to lose the next war.

With the war just over, and the people had won, the price they paid was steep. The world needed time to recover, the demon elders pleaded with Ren to wait and gather proof before exacting his revenge against the Radiant realm.

With his father's atrocious actions driving the demons to the brink of extinction, Ren felt that he owed his people, he swore he would wait until he had proof and only when Hell's Gate was finally closed and the people of Doha was safe, would he then demand the blood debt payment owed.

It was this promise plus his driving need to save his people this as well as the promise from Ala that his future true-mate needed him, and only she had the power not only to save the demons but also the people of Doha which had kept him from turning, with the heavy burden of a million souls on his soul, he should have turned into a devil ten thousand years ago.

For the past ten thousand years, he had kept this slim hope alive, waiting for his true-mate to reincarnate.
