Looking at the silver drakaina [1], Jayde still couldn't believe that the tiny creature was one of the dragons of legend.

[Is she suppose to be that small? I was thought that dragons were ... well, bigger] Jayde asked.

[She's only a wyrmling]

[...]

[She's a baby, I would estimate that she is only a couple of weeks old]

Jayde swore to herself that the moment she got back, she was going to go through all the information Kameko left her, she was tired of being ignorant.

[Where is her mother? And how did the Direwolves get hold of her?]

Reiko looked startled at Jayde's questions, he hadn't thought about how the silver wyrmling ended up in this cave. He had been too shocked when he recognized the little dragon, and he had panicked that Jayde would hurt her.

[I don't know, I will ask her]

Again Reiko surprised Jayde, she hadn't realized that he could communicate with the little dragon. Unfortunately, Jayde couldn't hear what Reiko and the little dragon talked out.

[Jayde, we must hurry!] Reiko shouted anxiously.

"Reiko, what is it?"

Feeling Reiko's fear through their bond, Jayde was so concerned that she forgot to use their bond to communicate, hearing her voice, she was worried that she might have scared the little dragon, glancing at the little dragon, Jayde was relieved to notice that the wyrmling hadn't reacted when she spoke aloud.

As Jayde rushed to Reiko side, the little dragon and Reiko started to run down the walkway, Jayde quickly followed them. After approximately two hundred meters the walkway opened in a small cavern.

Following the wyrmling and Reiko into the cavern, Jayde came to an abrupt stop. Lying on the floor of the cavern was an adult silver dragon, there were two wyrmlings lying next to the adult dragon. This must be the mother, Jayde thought as she examined the female dragon.

The dragon looked similar to what Jayde had imaged although still a lot smaller. With the dragon lying down Jayde could just make that she have four limbs, from the two front limbs that were visible Jayde could see that the dragon's toes where evenly spaced and tipped with black, sharp, barbed claws.

On top of the dragon's majestic head, she had two long, smooth, silver horns with gold tips that pointed slightly up and arched back from her head. She had a beautiful frill that flowed all the way from the top of her head, down her serpentine neck, over the back of her body to the tip of her tail. The frill was bright silver nearest her body and darken to a gold hue at the edge.

Two large curved wings graced her back, the wings had a frayed look, and she had a sharp talon on each wing. Her body was covered in small silver scales that looked like liquid mercury. She was a magnificent sight to behold.

Hearing Jayde and Reiko entering the cavern, the silver drakaina opened her eyes, her irises where like pools of liquid mercury, the color faintly swirling, her pupils were slit just like a feline.

Jayde stared at her dazed, she had never imagined that she would ever have a chance to see a real-life dragon.

[Oh by the great beast, she is dying, Jayde you must save her]

Reiko's sobbing voice woke Jayde from her stupor.

"What!" Jayde exclaimed loudly.

Shocked, Jayde quickly spoke through her bond [Reiko, what do you mean that she is dying?]

[Those monsters] Reiko said referring to the Direwolves [they have been feasting on her blood for months, they have drained her of all her power, she is dying Jayde, please I beg you, SAVE HER!]

Jayde's heart ached, she didn't know if it was from knowing that such a majestic creature was dying or from the grief that Reiko was experiencing that she could feel through their bond.

[I will try my best] she promised Reiko.

Jayde knew that she couldn't just rush to help the drakaina, she was wounded and to top it off, she was a mother guarding her young.

[Reiko can you talk to her?]

[Yes]

[You need to tell her that we are here to help her, get her permission to approach] Jayde instructed him.

Reiko was upset that Jayde wasn't rushing to helping the drakaina, but after hearing her last statement, he understood that Jayde was worried that the drakaina would lash out at them.

[Ah, okay] and with that, he turned to the dying drakaina and opened up his consciousness to the drakaina.

Most spiritual beasts wouldn't open their minds to anyone that they didn't trust impeccably, as like humans they valued their privacy, and by opening their minds to communicate telepathically allowed the other party access to their private thoughts and memories, the older the spirit beast was the more they could protect their private selves by building shields around their thoughts, but for a youngster like Reiko his mind had no protection.

It was also very dangerous to open your mind like Reiko was doing, as if the other person was stronger mentally they could attack and destroy the weaker mind. Jayde did not know what a risk Reiko was taking — if she had she would never have allowed it.
