Chapter 380: I Hear Your Voice (The End)

This time, Wei Zilin said, “I already passed everything I own to my wife last night. From now on, I’ll be completely penniless, so I’ll have to rely on my wife for any monetary needs.”

Xu Moyan remembered that too. The main problem was he had only passed them over to her last night, so she was not used to it yet.

Now that she remembered it, she pulled the wallet out of her bag. When she reached in her hand to take out a card, though, her fingertips brushed against a slightly cool metal surface.

She investigated it with her fingers and found that it was something like a circlet.

Xu Moyan gave Wei Zilin a glance, taking out the card before she put her hand back in to retrieve the circlet.

Just as she thought, it was a diamond ring.

“We even got our marriage certificates, but I can’t believe you never asked me for a ring,” Wei Zilin said helplessly. Should he say she was careless?

“I forgot too. I guess I just wanted to marry you, and I don’t really care about rings and the like. It never even crossed my mind.” Xu Moyan was equally exasperated. “Maybe I just got carried away since you’re so reliable.”

With a laugh, Wei Zilin took the ring and put it on her finger.

Xu Moyan instinctively muttered, “Come to think of it, nothing from the proposal to the exchange of rings was particularly romantic.”

Wei Zilin had just put the ring on her finger, so when he heard her say that, he immediately held the ring on her finger and fell to one knee.

Xu Moyan was shocked, and she hurriedly grabbed his hand, trying to yank him back up. “C’mon, get up.”

Of course, there was no way she could make him budge. Wei Zilin stayed resolutely kneeling on one knee.

“Thank you for believing in me and marrying me, my wife. I know my marriage proposal barely counted as a proposal, and even the way I gave you this ring wasn’t romantic in the slightest. But I’m willing to use the rest of my life to love you, pamper you, and protect you. We’ll do all the most romantic things until we’re old and grey.” Wei Zilin paused and gave her a small smile. “How’s that sound?”

They were at Furniture City, so while there were not many people around, there were still a few. Besides, there were all the stores and salespersons around them.

All of these people noticed what they were doing and gathered around for a closer look.

When they heard Wei Zilin’s declaration, all of them could not help but applaud.

Xu Moyan’s face was red and her heart was touched. She yanked him again, saying, “I know that, that’s why I never thought you aren’t romantic. Everything you do for me, every moment of our lives together, all of it’s actually really romantic. I don’t think you proposed to me in a rush, either. You mentioned it to my parents in all seriousness, and you bore all the responsibility, so that they wouldn’t worry. That’s the best thing you could’ve done.”

Wei Zilin squeezed her fingers lightly. They were slender, long, and soft. Even though he could feel the bones inside with the slightest touch, they still felt really soft to him. It reminded Wei Zilin of how she looked when she cooked.

Her slender fingers would be lightly pressed against the vegetables, and the contrast between the emerald vegetables and her fair fingers would be so breathtakingly pretty.

He took her hand and kissed the joints of her fingers lightly before he stood up.

The applause around them grew even louder. Xu Moyan was so embarrassed and nervous that she began to sweat all over.

She hurriedly paid the bill and then left with Wei Zilin.

After they left Furniture City, the two of them headed straight to the train station to pick up Xu Qingrui and Li Lanying.

Xu Moyan was not tall enough to look above the madding crowd, so she could not see if her parents were caught in the fray.

Thankfully, Wei Zilin was quite tall, standing head and shoulders above the rest. It was not long before he saw them.

“I see Mom and Dad,” Wei Zilin said, leading Xu Moyan over to them.

The two of them approached her parents, hand in hand, looking like they were absolutely meant for each. The atmosphere between them was indescribably peaceful.

Even amidst the frantic crowd, the two of them seemed to stand out. They were not affected in the slightest, as though the people around them had nothing to do with them.

Perhaps it was because the two of them carried themselves too well, so it felt like they could not fit in with the people around them. There was a stark difference between them and everyone else.

It was as though they were in a little world of their own.

From today onward, Xu Moyan was Wei Zilin’s wife.

Before this, Li Lanying had never stopped worrying about her daughter’s chances of marriage. She did not even have a boyfriend, and that drove Li Lanying right up the wall. Now, not only did she suddenly find a boyfriend, they even got married out of the blue within less than two months.

Her daughter, Li Lanying thought, oscillated between doing nothing and doing everything really fast.

In fact, it was so fast that Li Lanying could not quite keep up.

She had been pushing her daughter to get married earlier, but now that her daughter was married, she started to feel like time had passed by too quickly instead. Before she knew it, her daughter was already all grown up. She had her own family, and she was already someone’s wife, soon to be a mother.

Li Lanying’s eyes reddened, and her throat clogged up, leaving her unable to speak.

She stayed that way until Wei Zilin and Xu Moyan approached them. Xu Moyan knew what she was thinking as soon as she saw Li Lanying’s expression, and she began to choke up as well as she called out, “Mom.”

Li Lanying just nodded and nodded, unable to say a thing.

Xu Qingrui patted Li Lanying consolingly. “There are a lot of people here, so let’s get out of here for now.”

Li Lanying nodded, and all of them walked to the carpark next to the station.

When there were fewer people around, Xu Qingrui comforted Li Lanying. “It’s a day for celebrating, so don’t cry. I know you’re glad for our child and sad to let her go, but you can’t be acting like this when we go to the in-laws’ place. If they misunderstand and think that we’re not happy about this, you’ll just make it hard for the children.”

Wei Zilin and Xu Moyan were walking some distance ahead of them. Xu Qingrui lowered his voice so the two children would not hear them.

“Tell me something I don’t know.” Li Lanying took out a tissue paper and wiped her nose. “The emotions just got the better of me, and I couldn’t resist.”

“The two of us are gonna retire soon, anyway. I still have eight years to go, and you have three. Once both of us have retired, let’s move to B City so we can be closer to our daughter,” Xu Qingrui said.

“But the houses in B City are really expensive.” Li Lanying said that, but her eyes had already lit up.

“We don’t have to buy a great house. Our current house may be old, but it’s well-located. I asked at an agent’s earlier, and apparently it can be sold for this much now.” Xu Qingrui held up a certain number of fingers. “Besides, it’ll be eight years before we have to sell, and it should be around the time for eviction and demolition. We’ll get a tidy sum for that as well. We don’t usually spend a lot of money either, so we’ll have plenty saved up. It should be enough to buy a one-room apartment in B City since we don’t need a great location either. The most important thing is we want to be slightly closer to Moyan. That way, when Moyan has kids later, we can visit them whenever we want, right?”

When Li Lanying heard that, she immediately had a new goal to aim for. Her earlier melancholy vanished, and her spirits were clearly lifted.

Xu Moyan had the same idea as Xu Qingrui, but she did not expect them to sell the house.

Once they had gotten into the car, Wei Zilin drove while Xu Moyan sat in the passengers’ seat. Turning around, she told her parents, who were sitting at the back, “Mom, Dad, why don’t you come stay in B City after you two retire?”

Li Lanying did not think that Xu Moyan had considered this as well. Her daughter was always so considerate.

With a smile, Li Lanying said, “Your dad and I were just talking about that.”

She told Xu Moyan what they had discussed.

“As if it would be so troublesome for the two of you,” Xu Moyan said with a laugh. “Even before I got together with Zilin, didn’t I already tell you that I planned to buy a place in B City? I already had enough money for the down payment, so I thought of buying a unit at a slightly better place. You guys know that I earn a little side income from my Weibo account, and that’s enough for me to pay the loans too. It just so happens that I have a neighbor at my old apartment block who wants to sell their unit. I got to know them because of this, and they’re offering me a slightly lower price. This way, we get to cut out the middle man, too. I’m already talking to her about it, and after I buy it, you guys can come stay there whenever you’re free. After you retire, you two can just move in.”

“How much more money do you need? It’s best to avoid taking loans if possible. Your dad and I have some savings, and besides, we stopped worrying about your expenses after you graduated, so we managed to save up quite a tidy sum. I’ll give you all our savings, and if that still isn’t enough, we can help you with the loan installments, too. After all, we haven’t retired yet, so we’ll do what we can to help,” Li Lanying said.

The little family of three had completely forgotten that Xu Moyan was married now, and her husband was filthy rich too. They just wanted to buy a house, so did they really have to worry about the down payment and installments?

Wei Zilin coughed once and said, “Mom, Dad, don’t forget that you have me now. I’d never let you worry about these things. Moyan just has to choose a place she likes, and we’ll buy it.”

Li Lanying shook her head. “I know this isn’t much to you, but you and Moyan just got married. You shouldn’t be buying a house for us so soon.”

“Don’t think too much of it, Mom. I have plenty of property to begin with, so you just have to move in. There’s no need to make such clear distinctions, you’ll just hurt my feelings that way. You should keep the house in Jin City, too, since that’s your hometown after all, and you still have friends and relatives here. Sure, you’ll be moving to B City in the future, but at least you still have a home to go back to whenever you want. The last thing I want is for you to feel like strangers in your own hometown,” Wei Zilin said.

Actually, Xy Qingrui and Li Lanying knew that what Wei Zilin said made perfect sense.

However, they were just worried that others might say bad things about Xu Moyan.

Wei Zilin added, “The money Moyan saved up for the down payment can be used for whatever she wants to do on the side. Maybe she can start a small shop, or open her own workshop, or she could even use it for investments. Just leave the property management to the men.”

Li Lanying’s expression showed that she was wavering. Xu Moyan had forgotten about Wei Zilin earlier because the two of them had just gotten their marriage certificates today, and she was not used to their current status yet.

When she heard what Wei Zilin had to say, she felt kind of bad. She had clearly treated him like an outsider.

That was why she decided to help Wei Zilin convince her parents. “Zilin’s right, I was the one who forgot earlier. We have plenty of houses in B City, so you two just come over and stay there. Don’t worry too much about it, or else you’ll be treating Zilin like an outsider. Besides, you guys won’t be moving in any time soon, right? You said you would only move here after Dad retires. By then, Zilin and I would have been married for ages, so no one’s going to say anything mean.”

Li Lanying blinked and laughed. “You’re right. We got carried away.”

With that, the matter was settled amicably.

For now, Wei Zilin brought them to the hotel. Wei Zilin did have plenty of property around B City, but he never stayed there. The houses were left empty and uninhabited, so there was no way Xu Moyan’s parents could move in right now.

That was why, when he mentioned this to Xu Qingrui and Li Lanying, the two of them did not hesitate at all, choosing to stay in the hotel.

Wei Zilin paid for it, and this time, the two of them did not try to argue with Wei Zilin. Their son-in-law was expressing his filial piety with this, so it would be bad if they tried to be so polite with him.

After they left their luggage at the hotel, they headed straight to Old Master Wei’s place.

By now, Wei Minghao, Wei Mingli, and Wei Liqing were already there, waiting with Old Master Wei and their respective families.

Since Old Master Wei was there, Wei Mingli did not dare to act too uppity.

When Xu Qingrui and Li Lanying arrived and saw all those people waiting, they felt extremely guilty.

“We’re all a family now, so there’s no need to be so polite,” Old Master Wei said with a wave and a hearty laugh. He summoned Wei Zilin and Xu Moyan over to him. “Come on, hurry up and show me your marriage certificate.”

The marriage certificate was with Xu Moyan. On the way, Xu Qingrui and Li Lanying had already seen it.

Now, Xu Moyan passed the marriage certificate to Old Master Wei.

Each family already had a copy, but the elders still passed the certificate around happily and inspected it carefully. Tian Fangyu was all smiles, looking at it on both sides back and forth before she finally handed it to Wei Liqing.

“My son is finally married. My, my, what wonderful news!” Tian Fangyu smiled and smiled until the corners of her ears watered, and she hurriedly took a tissue paper to carefully wipe the tears away. Turning to the old master, she said, “Sorry, Dad, I know it’s a happy day and I shouldn’t react like this. But I’m just so glad.”

“Don’t worry, I understand,” Old Master Wei consoled her.

Wei Zilin reached over and held Xu Moyan’s hand.

Xu Moyan looked at her parents and then at the Wei family elders. They were all smiling happily, their expressions gentle. They accepted her with all their hearts.

How wonderful.

Xu Moyan gripped Wei Zilin’s hand in return.

Their encounter began with a voice and developed into love.

The owner of the voice she had liked for six years was finally holding her hand.

Such were the mysterious workings of fate. The two of them had nothing in common online, but when they met in real life, they realized that they had long since known each other on the Internet.

The voice she had always liked had been beside her this whole time, but her many worries kept them apart.

Thankfully, they still met each other in the end.

‘Wei Zilin, thank you for recognizing my voice the first day we met.

‘Thank you for taking that first step.’

Fate was unbelievably kind to her, making it so that all those years of emotional commitment did not go to waste. She was not the only one who liked Wei Zilin and Yu Linling, not by far.

However, she was the only one who was lucky enough to receive just as much if not more love from him in return. He fancied her, and he chose to be with her.

She would forever be grateful for this, all of this.

Xu Moyan held Wei Zilin’s hand tightly, raising her head to smile at him as the warmth of the moment enveloped them both.

To be able to hold hands with him, just like this, for the rest of their lives— that was the best thing that ever happened to her.
